Chapter 8 - In The Middle Of It.

The next morning, Cheta woke me up for a run, something about it being a good way to start your morning. I protested a little,

"Baby, I don't feel like running, I'm tired", I said, grumbling,

"You don't have to feel like it, wake up baby", he said, standing over me,

"Okay, I'll run but I didn't pack anything for that, what am I supposed to wear?", I asked him,

"I already have something ready for you, no excuses baby. Get up", He bent over, tickling me.

I got up and got dressed with a workout fit he had laid out on the bed for me. When we got outside, Nneoma, Cheta's sister was waiting for us, with a mobile police and driver who was going to escort us.

"Good morning Nneoma.", I greeted her,

"Good morning Dinma. How did you sleep?", she asked me,

"I slept well, up until Cheta woke me up to go for this run", I told her,

"That's my brother, Cheta", she said, laughing.

We walked out of the premises and started our run, the police car was riding behind us. I couldn't even go down the block before I got out of breath and stopped 'I used to be a fitness junkie but for a long time, I had stopped and now I had lost my stamina. So don't think working out is a new thing for me.' I joined the police car and followed them behind, I wasn't going to pass out on the streets of Ikoyi. After an hour of running, Cheta and Nneoma decided it was time to go home, so Nneome joined me, while Cheta walked home. He was walking in front of the car, while Nneoma and I were having a conversation in the car.

"So you really like my brother?", she asked me,

"Yes, I like him.", I said to her,

"That's good but you know my brother is a lot to handle?", she asked again,

"Don't I know that?", I told her,

"Oh! So you have gotten a taste already?, Tell me about it please", she asked, excited.

Cheta popped his head in the car and said, "You better not be talking about me", we laughed and continued back to the house.

When we got to the house, breakfast was ready and on the table. Cheta's mum, Mrs Chike was sitting at the table eating breakfast.

"Good morning mum.", Cheta greets his mum, walking over to her and kissing her on the cheek.

"Good morning son. Go and take a bath, you are so sweaty", she answers,

We greet her and then walk up the stairs to take a bath before coming down for breakfast. We were all down at the table, having breakfast, 30 minutes later, and trust me when I say it was spread, we sat down and Nneoma started telling her mom, how I couldn't finish the run,

"Mum, you should have seen her, she was out of breathe before she even started", she said, laughing.

I didn't know how to feel, but then I felt Cheta's hand on my knee, trying to calm me down, I turned to look at him and he could see the tears in my eyes, and then he went on to rebuke his sister,

"Nneoma, it's enough.. do you always have to look for someone to bully?", he said, very upset,

"Oh! I'm sorry Dinma, I was just joking.", she said, almost sounding apologetic, even though I didn't believe her.

"No...no, I'm fine..", I said faking a smile. I turned to Cheta and like he could read my mind, he asked for us to be excused from breakfast.

"Mum, please can you excuse us?", he said to his mum,

"You are not done with breakfast", she said to him,

"Yes, we will finish up in my room, I'll have them send it up", Cheta said, but I tried to stop him.

"No, it's fine.. we can finish up breakfast here, I'm fine", I tried to dissuade him,

"You are not fine, so we are finishing up breakfast in my room", he insisted,

He helped me up from my chair.

"I'm sorry ma'am. I'm sorry", I said to her, apologizing, just as Cheta was pulling me with him,

"It's fine.", Cheta's mum said.

Cheta held my hand while we walked up the stairs, the whole whispering little apologies to me and while we were on the stairs, I heard Cheta's mum, talking to his sister about how she had behaved and how it was wrong of her to speak that way about a guest. We got into the room and Cheta pulled me into his arms,

"I'm sorry babe, I don't know why Nneoma was behaving like that. I mean we know her to be a bully but I didn't know she would do that to a guest", he told me.

We sat down in Cheta's suite and he turned on the TV to find something interesting for us to watch, then about 15 minutes later, the kitchen brought up our breakfast, and we ate breakfast while we watched a series of movies. Cheta turned to me after we had eaten breakfast and we were watching a movie,

"Baby, are you okay?", he asked me.

"I'm fine..."I'm okay.", I said,

"Do you want to leave?", he asked again,

"No, baby, I'm fine. I'm here for the weekend, remember?", I told him,

"Okay, I just don't want you uncomfortable", he said, touching my hair, 'It had become a new habit for Cheta to touch my hair'.

"I'm fine. I should call your mum and find out where she is, so I can spend some time with her, what do you think?", I asked him, smiling,

"Yes, you should do that", he answered,

I picked up my phone and called Mrs Chike to find out where she was, she was at the pool at the back of the house, and when I asked her if she wanted company, she said she didn't mind, so I got up and left the room, with Cheta trailing behind me, when I asked him where he was going to, he said he was following me to protect me, I laughed,

"Baby, I'm just going to sit with your mum, I'm not walking into the lion's den.", I told him,

"But I'm still going with you.", he insisted.

We walked to the pool together. Mrs Chike was sitting at the pool, reading a book and sipping wine.

"Good afternoon, ma'am", I greeted her when we walked to the pool,

"Good afternoon mum", Cheta greets his mum,

"Dinma, how are you? I hope you are not still hurt from this morning?", she asked me,

"No. I'm fine.", I said, smiling,

"I see you have your bodyguard with you?", she said, laughing,

"He insisted. I told him I was fine.", I said, smiling.

"I have to protect my baby from Nneoma", he said, sitting down.

We sat down at the pool with Cheta's mum, and we talked. Cheta called the kitchen and told them to bring another bottle of wine and 2 wine glasses. Cheta's mum asked to leave an hour later, she said she would be absent from lunch because she was having lunch with her friends at the Ikoyi club. After she left and it was just Cheta and I sitting by the pool,

"Have you spoken to your sister since breakfast.". I asked him,

He turned to look at me, shocked at the question,

"I haven't seen her, and I don't think I want to see her right now, she hasn't even tried to apologize to you",

"Baby, she is your sister, you can't be this angry with her...and because of me", I told him,

" She is my sister and I know how to deal with her, please don't get in the middle of it", he said, now sounding upset.

"It's fine. I'm sorry I brought it up. I'll stay away", I said.

Cheta got up. He took my hand and pulled me up,

"What are you doing?", I asked him, a little scared,

"I'm going to teach you a lesson", he said with a smirk across his face.

"Babe.. stop it.", I said, squealing with excitement,

"Don't make me carry you, because I will, you better get up and follow me", He said, still trying to pull me up,

"Fine, I'll go with you, but no funny business Cheta", I said, smiling. I got up and followed him into the house. While we were walking to Cheta's suite, I kept hoping that we won't run into Nneoma in the hallway because I wasn't ready to have an awkward conversation with her, and thankfully, we didn't run into her. We got into the suite and Cheta carried me over his shoulder while I was squealing and telling him to put me down, but he ignored and carried me into the room and throws me on the bed,

"You have offended the gods and now it's time for you to get a spanking", he said, getting on the bed, and moving closer to me,

"But I didn't do anything", I said, still laughing.

"You are still offending them by calling them liars", He said, now tickling my sides while I laughed, and struggled to get away from him.

"Okay....okay... I'm sorry. Can I apologize to the gods", I pleaded with him, still laughing,

"It's too late for that...the gods are upset", he said, still tickling me,

"Baby, please stop....please", I said, at this point, I was out of breath already,

"Okay....okay. The gods have decided to listen to your pleas and have given you another chance to make things right, so...."

"Should I do it in our native tongue or English or will that be too difficult for the gods to understand?", I said, still laughing.

"See this girl...you are still insulting the gods?", he said, trying to come closer and tickle me again.

"Okay, I'm sorry, I'll do...", I was trying to talk but was interrupted by a call from the home phone.

Cheta gets up and walks out of the bedroom, to go and take the call in the living room and I lay down on the bed, exhausted but still smiling.
