Choo! Choo!
The train kept on moving, its engine running while steam kept on pumping from its chimney. Despite the tense atmosphere inside, from the outside, it just looked like a normal train.
With its current speed, the train would reach the next station, Loraine, in less than an hour, so Lucas did not have much time.
"The train's security should be busy looking for the bomb right now. But for a train of this importance and the fact that Mulch is known for being dangerous, they should have prepared enough security for any kind of emergency. Unless the terrorists have somehow caused them not to be able to..."
Lucas took out his mobile phone and looked through the internet for any recent news in Mulch quickly, but there was nothing there.
"Either there really is nothing, or they are covering everything up to prevent panic. The latter means the situation is much worse. In any case, I need to help take care of this for my safety too so I can leave this dangerous country alive."
Upon arriving at the connecting corridor that leads to the Third-Class carriage, he got his gun ready and then chanted, "You will be forgotten,"
A mysterious mist began covering his gun and made people instinctively ignore the object. However, due to the dangerous nature of the gun, the spell was not as effective. After all, people's subconscious couldn't simply ignore an object that could easily kill them. Because of that, Lucas still had to conceal the gun to some extent.
In the carriage, people were still seen complaining about their situation, and the moment they saw Lucas who was disguised as a train attendant, they naturally wanted to complain to him. However, he ignored their nagging and stood at the front while keeping a close eye on everyone's expression.
"Ehem... Ladies and gentlemen, I have an announcement," he said loudly.
Some people were still talking among themselves, but as others gradually quieted down to listen to the attendant's words, they stopped talking as well.
"I know who killed the General," he said firmly.
Choo! Choo!
The sound of the train's horn and engine filled in the silence that came after the announcement. The passengers appeared to be confused; they did not understand what the train attendant was talking about.
"What?"
"Are you joking right now?"
Lucas did not pay attention to any of the questions, but he paid close attention to everyone's change of expression. As a Memory Mage, he was blessed with better observational skills than normal people, so the task was very possible for him.
"Found you," he smiled.
There was a woman who showed a mixture of surprise and anger for a split second, before controlling her own expression like a professional. It was enough time for Lucas, however, to catch on.
She was a woman in her late thirties, wearing an elegant dress that was typical of a First-Class passenger. Although she was not wearing too much jewelry, she still exuded an aura of wealth. The woman was sitting by the window, and next to her was a man that did not look related to her.
Noticing that the train attendant was approaching her, the woman became on guard. She knew she had been found, so she had to get out of the situation.
As instructed by her organization, they were to kill anyone that would endanger their mission, so she was not planning to hold back.
I don't know who he is, but he is dangerous. Should I just kill everyone in this carriage? That would take too much spirituality... I will just kill some near me and take one hostage. As long as I can get to the others, I will be safe.
The woman had made up her mind.
She raised her right arm and her nails grew at an abnormal rate. As she was about to get up and stab the man next to her, she suddenly saw a figure approaching her location really quickly.
"Leap!"
Lucas had leaped across the carriage like a shadow, reaching his target's location in a split second.
"Sleep!"
Before she could achieve her goal, she suddenly felt incredibly sleepy, and no matter how much she fought the feeling, it was all in vain. She had given in to deep slumber.
"Whoa! What's happening?" the man sitting next to the woman was startled. He saw the woman's long, sharp nails were about to stab his heart, but the next second, she was lying unconscious and the train attendant was already standing next to him.
The commotion also attracted the attention of everyone in the carriage.
"Please, don't worry. I heard a report that this lady is a mental patient, so she can show outbursts unexpectedly--that's why I'm here," Lucas smiled politely at the man, "Now I need to carry her to our medical bay."
The man was still confused, but since the person speaking was a train attendant, he found the explanation rather believable, especially seeing the woman's dangerous appearance.
Although he was confident in his sleep spell, Lucas still did not want to take risks of the woman suddenly waking up and attacking him, so he tied her hands with his belt and dragged her across the hallway by her feet.
The toilet of that carriage was already occupied with the real Dan, so Lucas had to drag her to another one in another carriage.
As soon as they were alone, he placed his hands on her temples and began reading her memory as he did before. Her memory film began forming in his mind and Lucas rewound it to the part that he needed to know. He then played the memory and watched the 'movie' in his mind.
In the memory, he saw the woman entering the train from the door in far in the last carriage, which was strange since the First Class was located at the front.
As she was walking, she touched the back of some chairs and secretly planted a note under the chair cover. Since the memory was from the woman's direction, Lucas could not see the passengers sitting in those chairs, but he memorized their location.
The woman repeated the action in the other carriages before finally sitting in her own luxurious compartment in the First Class alone.
After that, Lucas stopped reading her memory.
"Shit. That was a memory from hours ago, so it was already tiring getting there. And the bomb was not even shown," he complained, panting, "Now I'm in a bad mood."
After resting and regaining his spirituality, he got up and took out a pen from his pocket, and cast some enchantment on it.
"Hardening,"
"Sharpening,"
And with that, the pen became as sharp as an ice pick.
"She's an enemy, so it's too dangerous to let her live," he decided.
Stab!
With a strong motion, Lucas stabbed the woman in the neck with the enchanted knife. The shock and the pain woke her up from the sleep spell, but blood was already gushing out of the hole left by the pen.
"Ack..."
She could not scream nor make any noise because her throat was damaged badly. She covered her wound with her hand, but before she could do anything else, Lucas stabbed her once more in her left eye.
Her right eye was bloodshot and she looked at Lucas with confusion and rage, as if saying, "Why are you killing me?!"
"If you plan to kill people, get ready to be killed in return," he said as if knowing what she was thinking.
The woman died not long after, and instead of leaving right away, Lucas waited several minutes in the bloodied toilet. He was resting as well as waiting for something.
"Here's the Tome," he grabbed a strange book that had somehow formed on top of the dead woman's chest.
The book was the size of a normal journal, and its cover was made of leather, giving it an ancient look. Before the book appeared, some mysterious mist was seen to be leaving the dead body and gathering in one spot where the book was.
"It's a Tome of Seduction. Useless for me, but I can sell it for some money," he tucked the Tome on his back and tightened his belt, "My mood has gotten worse somehow."
After getting the tome, Lucas used the pen to dissect the woman's skull and took out her brain. Using the sharpened pen, he wrote the word on the brain and left it there. He wiped the blood off his shirt as best as he could with an expression of disgust and then left the dead body alone
Without a delay, he went back to where his luggage was. Unluckily, he met another train attendant while opening the toilet door, so he had to put a sleep spell on her. He dragged her sleeping body and placed her next to the sleeping Dan.
Grabbing all the supplies he needed, he got back to where the brain was. He concealed everything using enchantment so that carrying the supplies past a lot of passengers wouldn't draw too much attention. Inside the toilet, he prepared a ritual and placed the brain in the middle with five candlesticks circling it. The word that he had carved had been filled with a golden liquid now.
He was now ready and his destination was the first Third Class carriage.
The moment Lucas opened the carriage door, the noise attracted the attention of most people there, and besides the passengers, there were two other train attendants.
The man walked in calmly, ignoring the eyes looking at him. He scanned the carriage before him and found the location of the seats marked by the woman. There were a total of four seats there.
As if feeling a foreboding danger, the four people who caught the eye of the train attendant started breaking cold sweats. They felt an ominous feeling coming from the calmly walking train attendant, and the closer he got, the more uncomfortable they felt.
Despite the noise that the train engine was making, the world felt eerily silent to the people that the attendant had marked. They felt like time had slowed down and the uneasiness felt like forever.
There was a feeling of forgetting something important, and that something is the root of the uneasiness that they felt. But no matter what, they could not remember what it was.
Lucas smiled politely at his first target.
