It was clear that Lauren felt uncomfortable in the situation, but Elliot's smile showed that he was glad to see her nonetheless. Perhaps there was more to their relationship that was left unsaid, or maybe they were just acquaintances. Regardless, Lauren's awkward wave and hair movement indicated that she was unsure of how to respond.
Lauren stood there for another minute or so, undecided, before he finally stuck his head back out the door. "Coming?" he asked as he raised his eyebrows.
Lauren had no choice but to follow him inside. But she was completely unprepared for what she found when she walked into the room. Books are everywhere, stacked haphazardly on nearly every available surface. Lauren saw a piano in the corner of the living room. She hadn't noticed in the morning when she ran from there. Now, if she thought about today's incident, she felt like an idiot for saying those things to him.
