Chapter 11 - Eve

I heard the door to my cell creek open, but I was too weak to even lift my head. So I just continued to spell things, hoping someone out there would see it.

"Sir, she needs food and water, or she won't last the rest of the week," mentions the voice of Elder Payatt, "I believe the only thing keeping her alive at this moment is her mate."

"I wanted to punish her for spitting on me," Father Lucas says through clenched teeth, "But I guess I don't want her to die just yet. Give her some of the dog food that we brought. I want to see her act like the animal she is."

If what they said was true, then I would be dead right now if it wasn't for my connection to Clay. I wonder if he was watching me somewhere. Sometimes, I swear I could feel his eyes on me. I used what was left of my strength to spell out, "I…L….O….V…E…U….C…L…A…Y..."

I must have passed out because I jerked awake when I felt a sting against my cheek. When I opened my eyes, I found Elder Payatt standing over me with tears dripping down his face.

"I never wanted this to happen," he whispered as he held me up so that he could bring a bottle of water to my lips, "At first, I did blame you for exposing us to the world, but now I understand why you did it. That man is pure evil; he calls us the demons when he has the blackest heart of us all."

After giving me a few drinks of water, he fed me dog food. It wasn't a Big Mac, but I was so hungry I could eat a shoe…So I ate everything and chugged down the water.

I could feel my strength slowly returning as I pulled away from Mr. Payatt, then said, "I will forgive you. I met your wife and Grandson; I would have done the same thing if one of my loved ones were taken. Don't give up now; my mate is clever; he will save us. That I do believe with all my heart."

I had almost forgotten about the camera, but I didn't care if Father Lucas heard; I wanted him to be scared. I can't wait to see Clay rip his throat out.

I wasn't sure how long I had been here, but I was glad to feel my strength returning until I started getting restless. Since I shifted for the first time, I have never gone this long without shifting. The need to shift and feel the dirt under my paws made my bones ache.

I was startled when I heard the little slot on my cell door open to find Father Lucas and Elder Payatt watching as I paced my cell.

"What is wrong with her?" asked Father Lucas.

"I believe it's a side effect of being unable to shift," Elder Payatt explained, "Animals don't do well when they have been confined for so long."

"I bet it's painful," sneered Father Lucas, "The demon spawn needs to suffer."

I clenched and unclenched my hands, trying not to react to his words. I rubbed at my arms as the need to shift became unbearable. I really hope help will come soon.
