Chapter 28 - Casually Fearsome

The group spilled into the room. Upon noticing D-D relaxing in the center Hail spoke, "Not running anymore are you?"

D-D nudged his head to a corner, "Your case is over there. You can have it back, I'm not messing with something potentially dealing with the government."

Warrell had already noticed the beeping sound and was moving towards it. Grabbing the case he looked between the groups, "I got my end of the deal, do I need to stick around?"

Hail cracked his knuckles, "You're good, you'd just be in the way."

Sliding through the group Warrell moved outside. Walking down the street he then turned into an alley and rested against the wall. A suspicious feeling had been clawing at his stomach, and he wanted to confirm something.

D-D stood up, "Now for the elites of Owl Eye to greet me like this. Seems like I've really gone and offended you huh?"

"You've offended many gangs, it was about time you found your place among the asphalt."

D-D no longer held the careless tone of voice, rather it gained a deeper undertone as if he was attempting to be menacing, "My fall won't be here. That's for sure."

"Whatever, jump his ass!"

D-D grabbed the chair behind him and flung it forward. The speed it traveled through the air was surprising, one of the members hastily raised their arms as it crashed into them. Hail's gaze followed the chair in shock, he hadn't expected a quick response. D-D ran forward at a incredible speed. The chair shattered on impact and D-D had already reached a fighting distance.

Hail doubled over as D-D's fist made contact with his stomach. Sliding to the side D-D crouched and performed a sweep kick to knock Hail to the ground. Using his hands to perform a hand stand he continued spinning and kicked another member. Bending his arms a bit he pushed upwards and lifted himself into the air, flipping he easily landed back on his feet and dodged an incoming blow.

Such ridiculous feats were undoubtedly the result of a powerful ability. Moving so inefficiently, but performing with deadly accuracy. D-D could afford to be like this because of this ability.

A thick metal chain flung in his direction, visible sparks of electricity traveled down it. D-D stomped on a piece of wood and it flung upwards, a result from the angle it was resting at. Snatching it easily out of the air he swung it towards the chain. Yet when the two materials made contact the electric chain cut through the wood easily. D-D's reaction time was phenomenal at this moment, upon noticing his weapon being useless he dodged the chain with a sidestep and prioritized the member who swung it.

Throwing the rest of the wood that remained in his hand he dashed with it. Another member kicked towards his chest, but D-D performed a front flip over it. As he was in the air the chain snapped and moved towards him. Thanks to his preparation ahead of time, there was an out to this potential end. Reached out he grabbed a shelf and pulled himself away. Spinning above it his free hand snatched a few bottles laying at the top. Holding them between his fingers he threw them like a ninja would kunai.

Spreading out in a fan pattern the bottles hit a few of the members. They didn't shatter until they hit the ground, the soft-ish bodies of the members lacked the hardness to break them. Not that it mattered, the ground was now littered with broken glass. Jumping back by pushing against the shelf D-D caused it to tilt and fall towards the members. Landing on another shelf he grabbed a couple of spare metal rods. Clearly abandoned rebar from a failed reconstruction project. Twirling them between his fingers like balance rods he charged back into the fray.

Hail had just gotten back up when D-D was approaching him again. He wasn't able to properly guard himself in his current position and felt the full wrath of the abandoned rebar. The force caused blood to fly as he was smacked to the ground. D-D didn't bother with Hail after that strike and instead swung upwards to deflect a fist flying his way. Performing a spinning back kick he knocked them back and through a window.

The electric chain sparked through the air towards D-D, threatening to tear him in half like the previous piece of wood. D-D tossed one of the rebar rods and accurately hit between the chain!

I was shocked upon getting to this point! Could you imagine the amount of accuracy you would need to do something like this?? The space in the middle of the chain was much smaller due to the other linking chains, and it could just barely fit the rebar under the perfect conditions. Yet in the middle of battle D-D performed this without blinking!

The throw was aimed so well it hit the side of the chain and caused it to bend. The force of the moving chain pinched the rebar and prevented it from sliding through completely. This combined with the force from the throw managed to change the direction of the chain. Using the other rebar D-D tossed it at the chain wielded member and scored a solid hit on their forehead. Sprinting across he leapt and performed a spectacular flying dragon kick to that member's nose.

Once the member let go of the metal chain the electric arcs stopped immediately. D-D watched as the chain touched the ceiling and bounce off harmlessly. Before he landed he snatched the chain out of the air and whipped it. With the rebar still stuck in the chain the whip wasn't as effective, but it made another member flinch and raise their guard.

Landing on the ground he gripped the chain with both hands and spun it around the neck of the electric wielding member. Kicking them away before they could make the arcs course through the metal he picked up another object at the end of the building. It was paint can devoid of any usable paint. Not that it was empty! Instead D-D had filled it with miscellaneous small objects he found and placed it here just in case. Now having some weight to it D-D flung it to the final standing member.

Hail suddenly spoke, "Shit! This guy is dangerous. We're leaving!"

An explosion of smoke filled the building and blocked D-D's sight. He heard the sound of the paint can's insides moving and later a sudden thud as it fell to the ground. Assuming he hit is target he opted to jump through the window to not breathe in the smoke. This one didn't have any glass, the reconstruction project abandoned before they completed the window. Instead it was covered haphazardly with an old plastic tarp. One that D-D easily leapt through. Watching as the members dashed across the street in retreat he sighed in relief, "That's that then."

Warrell had a different reaction though. Upon seeing D-D handle the group with relatively ease he felt two particular emotions. One was fear, the whole fight seemed like it was orchestrated by D-D. Like a scripted battle meant to show himself off. It was terrifying! How much control and experience did you need to have in order to perform like that in real time?

The other feeling was rage. It reminded him too much of Jay, and how his Heavy Thorns fell to a single person. Granted that battle wasn't so one-sided like this, it still stabbed at a healing wound. Warrell wouldn't let this get to his head, instead he wisely moved down the alleyway and avoided D-D.

He got the package back, that's what mattered. Without this he wouldn't be able to take revenge. Feeling the heavy case in his hands was comforting. He would take extra caution delivering. A lesson learned.

He was unaware that D-D had actually already scaled the building and was watching him leave. With a voice filled with sorrow D-D complained to himself, "That was probably the most interesting thing that happened so far. Why did it have to be with the government?! I can't tangle with those guys."

Pulling an item out of his pocket he investigated it. A picture of the case itself, but focused on a logo located on its underside. This logo was only available with a UV light, and D-D had rapidly taken a picture when he found this discovery. D-D was positive he had seen it before. Such a logo certainly had ties with the government, it had to be.

"I guess I'll have Lee look into it. As for Owl Eye. . .", D-D looked upwards, "I'll have to deal with them later too."

I felt the need to tell you about this, despite the ties to the Street Dogs being few. I'll get us back on track. Currently, around the same time these events took place. . .

Ah yes, Top Dog was currently being investigated by Ghost Hand.
