The first thing Rachael noticed when she woke up was that she was wet, and lying on a rock in the cave. This was confusing. She didn't understand why. "Ohhhh," she moaned softly. Her head ached like crap and after a few breaths, she slowly raised her hand to touch it.
There was a defined bump and the way it burned when she touched it meant that the skin was grazed and bleeding.
She frowned. "Ouch!" That hurt.
She lay still and concentrated on her breathing. Everywhere smelled of seaweed and ocean salt. Where was she? She seemed to be lying, injured and wet, amongst rocks. Was she still in the cave?
And then it came back. The stomach-churning feeling of slipping, the sharp pain of hitting her head, the fall… and her primal terror in the dark water. The fear gripped her belly for a moment as she remembered how it felt to be in the dark water, knowing that something unseen was there with her.
"Crap!" How did she get out of the pool? What was that 'thing' that had been in the water? She knew without a shadow of doubt that there had been something in there with her. Something powerful.
She sat up too quickly, wincing at the sharp pain in her head. She closed her eyes against the pain, feeling woozy and unsteady.
"'It was almost too much for him as he watched her from the darkness. He felt her pain in his stomach and he felt an intense urge to go to her, to touch her head, to ease the frown that shifted her dark eyebrows. The intensity of his emotion traveled to his body and shifted in the water, ready to streak to her side.'''"
She heard the water shift. She opened her eyes and looked toward the source of the sound.
'"His eyesight was sharp in the dim lighting and he sucked in his breath as he saw her open her eyes for the first time. Her eyes were not the endlessly light blue of his people; they were another color. He searched for a comparison. The closest he could come up with was the color of a stormy, grey sky. Her eyes were startling, clear grey. He had never seen anyone like that.
Rachael still felt groggy from the fall, the head injury, and the shock. She looked towards the back of the grotto, searching for the source of the sound. She thought for a moment. It sounded like it came from the water.
Rachael gasped and jumped unsteadily to her feet. She needed to get away from the water. IT WAS STILL IN THERE!!
'"He watched her move her feet. The female was more lithe and graceful than he had expected. Her legs and feet moved with a flowing motion and speed that surprised him. He had mostly expected that the legs would become tangled and at the best, she would hobble on those little feet. This thought made him smile. She surprised him.'"
Rachael had the strongest feeling that she was being watched. A tremor of fear ran down her spine. She backed slowly across the rocks, away from the pool. Then with a sharp intake of breath, she moved quickly out of the prison cave towards her own cave where her captors had previously kept her.
'"She was moving faster than he thought possible. Out of the prison cave she had released him, away from him.
"NOooo'' he groaned. The sound of his anguished cry echoed around the rocks as the pale female rushed into the light and away from him. He dived underwater, full of anger and regret.'''
********~~~***********
After a few hours, he smelled her scent before he heard her. He was floating languidly on the surface of the pool, remembering every detail of her body, when her scent announced her imminent arrival into the prison cave.
She was back.
He was instantly alert. But then he paused as he noticed she was holding some sort of plants and seaweed. He watched with piqued interest to know what she would do next.
Dazed and disoriented, Rachael sat down on a nearby ledge, her hand reaching her forehead. With a determined resolve, she began to neatly arrange the seaweed she had gathered. Rachael could still remember how she and her mother gathered some of these plants beside the seashore and extracted their juices for medicinal use.
Carefully, she crushed the plants with a stone and then took a handful of them and wrapped it around the wound on her forehead, using their healing properties to nurse her wound.
Taking great care, she applied the medicine to her bruised legs, letting its soothing texture cool her skin. She tied the sea plants around the wound with the help of the vine-like plant she plucked from the cave, using their natural healing antibacterial properties to help prevent infection.
Despite the throbbing pain in her head, Rachael couldn't help but feel the magic of the underwater world. With each piece of seaweed carefully applied to her wound, she felt a sense of healing and rejuvenation.
Suddenly, she heard a strange sound, like a soft humming coming from the water. She looked up from her legs and saw a pale, glowing figure emerging from the depths of the pool. At first, she thought it was just a trick of the light, but as the figure came closer, she realized it was no trick…
Below the surface of the dark water, there was a luminescence flash of deep blue and green color. Through the pond, Rachael could make out the creature's features as it emerged from the Pool. His body was only visible from his chest up, while his waist region was bathed inside the Pool
She wasn't imagining things. His torso tapers into what is obviously a tail. She couldn't see all of it because the dark water was obscuring his massive tail.
His skin was pale, tinged with the most delicate ivory color. His torso was muscular and toned, a testament to his years of swimming through the depth of the ocean. His fingers were delicate, yet strong. The claws were perfectly manicured. His arms were strong, with rippling biceps and triceps, a testament to his strength and power… He had broad shoulders that tapered down to a trim waist, giving him an almost godlike physique.
Rachael had never seen anything mesmerizing as the creature's eyes, a deep light blue color with tiny flecks of gold that looked like they held the entire universe within them.
Terrifying, mysterious eyes.
His eyes glimmered with depth and understanding, and his eyelashes were long and lush, a subtle compliment to his beauty. His eyebrows were perfectly arched and defined, adding to the perfection of his form. His hair was a brilliant shade of black, cascading down his back in beautiful waves. He was a masterpiece, a work of art that had been crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail.
The creature watched her intently, and she wondered if he could speak
Rachael's inner voice kicked in. "Is he going to eat me?" She silently pleaded for her life as the creature drew closer and closer to her. His tail flicked beneath the water, creating a small splash as he propelled himself forward.
At that point, Rachael realized that he was the one who had pulled her out of the depths of the pool.
Curiosity took over the place of fear in her entire body.
He tastes the change in atmosphere. He tilted his head as he watched her impassively.
Rachael's heart skipped a beat at how endearingly sexy he looked as he tilted his head… oh my. She lifted her face to look at him, to watch him as he watched her. His powerful tail moved beneath the water. She watched the water move around his chest as his tail held him in position.
He lifts an arm out of the water slowly in her direction. Rachael tensed at his sudden action, ready to push herself out of his reach. She gasped when something was thrown on the floor in front of her. On the ground were red berries that were scattered neatly on a rock surface.
When Rachael opened her eyes and glanced out at the water, she discovered the creature had already vanished out of sight.
