Chapter 10 - Differences in Moral Views

Her brown hair flowed as the sway of her head brushed against her back as she sat straight. Her thin lips moved to say words that were always flat and cold. But her brown eyes showed concern for the cute baby in front of her.

Unlike Sister Chika who spoiled Del, Sister Yudith acted stricter with him. She knew that Del was a very smart kid that could even be categorized as extraordinary. As he had been able to speak without stuttering despite just being a year old.

Because of this, Sister Yudith knew that Del would have a very bright future. But Del had an apathetic attitude towards other children, he always ignored them and sometimes acted coldly towards the children around him. Apart from Chika who spoiled him, only Sister Yudith and Madam Yeva could communicate with him without being ignored.

Maybe this was the nature of someone who was deemed a genius as he could not blend with other normal people around him. However, this made Sister Yudith worry about his mental development.

The News broadcasts sometimes showed things that were too mature for Del and sometimes horrific news stories like murder, rape, or violence appeared. So she forbade Del from watching the news and forced him to watch children's channels on TV.

Knowing that his ultimate skill didn't work, Del could only frown and watch the cartoon with a bored face. The more he watched the kids channel, the more Del furrowed his brow, the creases on his face making him look like an old man with a baby's body.

Seeing Del make an expression as if he ate a sour fruit, the worry in Sister Yudith's heart grew even more. She took a deep breath and looked at Del seriously.

"Del, why don't you play with the other kids?" asked Sister Yudith.

Although in the Flower Garden Orphanage, there weren't any children of Del's age there were still children who were two or three years older than him. But Del never played with them and always stared at them with disdainful eyes.

"Why do I need to?" Del replied curtly

Even though he was hundreds of millions of years old, his infant body seemed to have locked his Immortal Paragon mentality, so at this moment he still felt irritated because he was forbidden to watch the news.

Sister Yudith's poker face twitched and she felt like she had hit a brick wall.

"Del, in this world we can't live alone. Humans must help each other to survive. Especially the children of the Flower Garden Orphanage, you don't have parents to support you from behind, that's why only your siblings in the orphanage can be your ally in the future."

Sister Yudith spoke as if she was advising her peers. She knew that with Del's intelligence, he would understand what she meant.

Del glanced at Sister Yudith without turning his head, seeing the serious face of the brown-chocolate-haired woman, Del took a deep breath.

"Sister Yudith, it's not that I don't want to have friends but anyone who wants to become my friend must have the qualifications. If in the end, they're just going to give me trouble then it would be best not to approach them at all. I don't have time to take care of the kids. "

Del folded his arm in front of his chest and said seriously.

If this was his former self then he would not waste his energy explaining this to a mortal like Sister Yudith. But Del realized that right now he was no longer an Immortal Paragon, he was a baby who still needed the help of an adult to take care of him, therefore he always treated the three adults in the Flower Garden Orphanage better.

But that was the limit of Del's kindness, he didn't want to extend it to the orphans. Not because he felt that the children were useless but because he felt that at this time the children would only give him trouble.

When they grew up and showed potential then he would start to approach them. Del believed that with his social skills approaching these children and taking advantage of them was an easy thing. But right now Del wanted to focus more on himself and gathering information about this world.

Sister Yudith massaged her wrinkled forehead. She didn't know where Del learned to talk like this but she was sure it wasn't from Chika. How was it possible that the kind and innocent Sister Chika could teach Del to speak like a heartless businessman?

"But you can't always be with Sister Chika. She has another job besides taking care of you, she is the caretaker in this orphanage you know." Sister Yudith found a new reason.

This time Del turned his head and looked straight at Sister Yudith's poker face.

"Sister Yudith, what exactly do you want to say?"

Sister Yudith took a deep breath as she thought..

'Is he really a one-year-old baby?'

She knew that her words were baseless. Del was a very strange baby, he never cried except when he was hungry or he wanted to poop. Now that he could talk Del just needed to say what he needed without crying.

What's more, he never gave his caretaker any trouble. Del only sometimes liked to ask a lot of things which showed his great curiosity. But he seemed to be able to read the atmosphere so he didn't disturb Chika when she was busy at work or tired, Del just kept quiet and waited for the right time.

He was very considerate and this attitude sometimes made Sister Yudith feel very strange. She began to think that Del was the reincarnation of someone much older than herself. The only clue that Del was a baby was his baby-like body.

However, that only existed in web novel stories, it couldn't possibly exist in real life. As a result, in order to maintain her sanity, Sister Yudith used the excuse that Del was a very smart child. As a result of his intelligence, he was able to think beyond the limits of his age.

"Del, I will tell you the truth. You should have started to realize that our orphanage is no ordinary orphanage, right?" said Sister Yudith, narrowing her eyes.

Del was a little surprised but his face didn't show it. An Ex-Immortal Paragon like himself couldn't possibly be unable to control his facial expressions.

At first, he did feel strange about the Flower Garden Orphanage because the orphans wore nice clothes and looked clean. They also seemed to have no trouble getting food and providing good education.

Moreover, Sister Chika and Sister Yudith were very beautiful. If they had just polished their faces a little and dressed better, then their beauty would be more than on par with the reporters he used to see on TV. Then also their attitude was similar to upper-class women showing that they were not commoners.

Del didn't want to judge things right away because this world could be different from his previous world. Perhaps in this world, the status of the orphanages was way higher than he had imagined.

However, from Sister Yudith's words, it seemed that the Flower Garden Orphanage was no ordinary orphanage.

Seeing no response from Del, Sister Yudith continued her words,

"Del, one of the goals of establishing the Flower Garden Orphanage is to make the image of some wealthy families better in the eyes of the public. However, that is only an apparent goal, the true purpose of establishing the Flower Garden Orphanage is to accommodate children who cannot be accepted by their families..."

"Or the cruel way to say it is that the Flower Garden Orphanage is a place to house illegitimate children of wealthy families who are impossible to acknowledge in public." Sister Yudith smiled bitterly.

Sister Yudith saw that Del's face showed confusion. So she took a deep breath, she felt guilty for explaining this to Del. As Del might have been also one of the illegitimate children of a wealthy family.

So saying this in front of Del who was only one year old was cruel.

"Ah.. I'm sorry Del.. Please forget what I said,'' said Sister Yudith, slightly bowing her head.

Del was confused why Sister Yudith apologized. Del had from the start thought that this orphanage was a place where large organizations trained their dead soldiers, but in reality, this orphanage was just a place to accommodate illegitimate children.

This of course made Del a little disappointed because this new world was too peaceful. It was not that Del had never heard of illegitimate children but it was just that this world's treatment of illegitimate children was very strange.

In the Cultivation World where strength was everything, a cultivator could have as many women as he wanted. If he wanted to sleep with a mortal (which was impossible considering how arrogant a cultivator was) then they could just abandon the child born from that relationship.

Or there was a possibility that the 'illegitimate child' would be adopted by the cultivator to be trained. This was because a cultivator could hardly have children especially if the cultivator was very strong.

Even more strange was, the reason why these rich families hide their illegitimate children is that they don't want to be looked down upon by ordinary people. Del had a really hard time accepting this because for the strong the comments of ants were pretty useless.

There may be some cultivators who try to look better in the eye of mortals but this only happens to those who are weak. Those who were truly strong would act according to their Dao Heart.

Del once met a cultivator who impregnated 1000 mortal women. When these children were born, the cultivator would perform a ritual sacrifice to obtain their Qi blood that could increase his realm of cultivation.

And many other cultivation arts use mortals or their own descendants to become stronger. In the cultivation world, these things were indeed considered inappropriate and rarely used, not because of morals or anything, but because cultivators were afraid of being entangled in karma that could harm them.

"Why?" Del curiously asked if this was really something as big as Sister Yudith said then in this world Del not only had to revise his knowledge but also his moral values.

"ah.. hmm... Del, I just want you to be close to the other kids, if you do that then I will give you a gift" Sister Yudith quickly changed the flow of the conversation.

"Gift?" Del asked with slight interest.

"Yup! If you play together with other kids I will buy the book you want"

"Deal!" Del nodded quickly and held out his little hand.

Sister Yudith's lips twitched seeing little Del who was acting like a top businessman.

They shook hands and at the same time, Madam Yeva came in.
