Javier Cruz was nervous as he entered the council chambers. He had been summoned by the council and he had no idea what to expect. "We have received reports that you have been using your abilities to help the people of this city," Gregorio continued. "We also understand that you have been causing quite a stir among the criminal elements."
Javier swallowed nervously. He had been hoping to keep a low profile, but it seemed that he had failed.
"We are here today to decide what to do with you," Gregorio said. "On the one hand, your actions have been commendable. You have been helping to make this city a better place. But on the other hand, you have been operating outside the law."
Javier's heart was pounding in his chest. He knew that he was treading on dangerous ground.
"We have decided," Gregorio said, "that we will allow you to continue your activities for now. But you must understand that you are doing so at your own risk. If you are caught breaking the law, we will not be able to protect you."
Javier nodded, relieved. He knew that he would have to be more careful from now on, but at least he had the council's tacit approval.
As he left the council chambers, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. He was doing something important, something that mattered. He was making a difference.
