A phoenix's true journey begins after its first shift. Dormant strengths and powers are unlocked and a well of flames laying dormant finally becomes accessible to the phoenix.
The First Shift brings forth the possibility of flight and increases the potency of a phoenix's flames tenfold.
That said, there is a significant difference between the First Shift and the Half Shift.
A phoenix that has never been through the First Shift and merely bears the power of a half shift is like a flightless bird trying to flap wings tattered with holes."
Darius paused, "Have you ever seen a phoenix go through a half-shift?"
