Chapter 28 - Amon’s Plea I

Chapter 28: Amon's Plea I

The cosy room Sarah was in started to change uncontrollably.

The walls collapsed backwards like movie props made out of cardboard and all of the furniture turned into exploding confetti which caused her to fall backwards onto the floor as the seat she was in disappeared from under her.

Her heart was beating fast as the extremely confusing situation made her fearful and stressed. She wanted to look over to the mysterious man that caused all this but Arthur and Renfri obscured her vision although that shouldn't even be possible with her ability.

They looked twisted as both of their faces were covered in colourful paint similar to clowns you could see at a circus. Their smiles were unnaturally wide and eyes unnaturally sharp as if they were a pair of predators looking at their prey.

They giggled and started to circle her while dancing and clapping and singing and…

It was just too overwhelming for Sarah. Like a child she wished she could just close her eyes and make everything disappear but what good would that do? Ever since she gained true vision even while falling asleep she was perfectly aware of her surroundings and as it was years ago she practically forgot what true darkness looked like.

But she tried nevertheless and closed her eyes hoping everything would just stop. That today was just a bad dream… and… what is this?

Sarah was amazed as she witnessed the sight she had no idea she longed for, so much so that tears started to roll from her closed eyes. It was so calming that it made her forget all about the strange situation she was in. She touched her face wanting to wipe away the tears and by doing so she realised that the cloth she used to cover her eyes with disappeared at some point.

"Beautiful isn't it?"

The intense and emotional silence she experienced was interrupted by someone. She opened her deep blue eyes and noticed a man standing just in front of her. He leaned slightly forward and offered his hand to her which she accepted while in a daze.

"Heh"

The man chuckled softly as he pulled her up onto her feet.

"My name is Amon by the way"

Amon introduced himself to Sarah who only now started to regain some sense as she moved back away from him. She looked vigilant and realised that the surroundings changed completely. Now they were on an endless plain filled with tall golden wheat that moved gently with the wind.

"Who are you?"

"Didn't I just introduce myself?"

Amon smiled in his usual playful way and started to slowly approach her.

"Stay back!"

She shouted but neither did he stop nor did she run away.

"Don't be nervous"

Amon said so in a calm tone as he gently petted her head.

"Why don't we have a talk?"

He whispered to her ear and the location changed again but this time they were back at the Foundation. Sarah found herself once again at her chair and Amon sat where Arthur used to.

"You are a demon, a very powerful one in the domain of the mind"

Sarah forced herself to calm down as now she realised what Amon was. Although she lost her true vision and never encountered such a being she was still knowledgeable as the title of a 'purified one' required you to be.

"How observant for someone that was raised to be blind… I wonder what gave me away?"

Amon, as to express his approval, clapped his hands a couple of times. He seemed really amused by Sarah's hateful expression targeting him.

"What did you do to my powers?"

"Why do you think it was me? Wasn't it you that took it away from yourself?"

Amon seeing the confusion on her face decided to continue.

"Tell me… what does it mean to be 'pure'?"

As soon as he said this a terrifying realisation hit Sarah like a speeding truck ready to create another s*itty isekai.

"My faith wavered…"

"You are correct and it happened for a good reason. You pursue 'purity' while you are unaware of its meaning but i do not blame you as you were raised to be an ignorant slave"

This angered Sarah.

"What can a demon know about 'purity'!?"

"More than you can imagine. Do you perhaps want to know the reason for your doubts?"

Sarah now looked to be at a crossroad as to what to do. She knew that entertaining Amon in his twisted game was extremely dangerous but the desire to know more within her grew stronger by the second. Did he really know as much as he claimed? What did he mean by being raised to be blind? Her curiosity ultimately won over her fear and better judgement.

"I do…"

Amon's smile widened as he already knew he had her in his grasp and all he needs now is just a small push.

"Do you know why there is no God of Purity? The poor excuse in that book of lies is just a way to cover up the truth so don't bother with that"

"I don't… What is the truth?"

"I suppose a small lesson about history is in place then. You see in the past the Church of Purity had a God but he was killed by others"

"A God can be killed? For what reason?"

"Yes… and why? Well they were afraid of course"

Amon's expression softened as if he was reminiscing about a painful past.

"They were afraid of what 'purity' truly represented. That it was not about some silly thing like being good or evil…"

He stopped for a solid minute before continuing.

"...but that it was about accepting yourself for what you are. It is about being 'pure' with your desires, about living with sin. In your path as their slave have you not noticed how futile it was to try and get rid of it? It's true that humanity is born of sin but 'purity' is not about it. Embracing darkness within you is. Embracing light within you is"

The words he spoke terrified Sarah. Her eyes were wide open with shock as she listened to him. She wished she could deny it but couldn't help but believe him since her vision… her true vision returned to her.

When she looked at Amon, what she saw was the 'purest' form of darkness.

It was beautiful.
