Chapter 40 - An Old Story

Viel returned to the inn and the innkeeper handed to him a letter. He took it and entered his room.

When he opened the letter, he found the monster's blood list.

—-

Frost Wyrm Blood (Rank 5)

Basilisk Blood (Rank 4)

Magma Drake Blood (Rank 5)

Ironclad Rhino Blood (Deimos)

Storm Serpent Blood (Rank 5)

Ember Lizard Blood (Rank 4)

Inferno Mane Lion's Blood (Deimos)

Sylvan Owl Blood (Rank 5)

Thunderous Eagle Blood (Deimos)

—-

Viel didn't even look at the ones with a Rank below Deimos.

"The Ironclad Rhino, the Inferno Mane Lion and the Thunderous Eagle." Viel said. "I should ask Lux about them. He can look for them in his Elysium Compendium after all."

Viel was really lucky because he found Lux entering the Inn just as he was going to search for him.

"Lux, I need to ask you a favour." Viel said.

"Whatever it is, Big Brother, I would do it." Lux replied.

"I need you to look into the Elysium Compendium for three monsters." Viel said. "These are the Ironclad Rhino, the Inferno Mane Lion and the Thunderous Eagle."

Lux did as told and showed his Soul Book to Viel.

—--

1. Ironclad Rhino

The Ironclad Rhino is a colossal and heavily armoured beast that roams the savannas and grasslands. Covered in thick, metallic-like plating, its sturdy exoskeleton offers unparalleled protection against attacks. Its immense horn, forged from a unique mineral known for its resilience, is capable of piercing through even the most formidable defences.

2. Inferno Mane Lion

The Inferno Mane Lion is a creature of flames and might, found prowling in the hottest corners of volcanic regions. Its mane is a blazing cascade of fire, and its eyes radiate an intense inner inferno. With sleek, ebony fur and ember-like patterns, this creature is a living embodiment of both beauty and danger.

3. Thunderous Eagle

The Thunderous Eagle is a colossal avian predator that reigns over the skies with unparalleled authority. Its wingspan spans an astonishing distance, and its feathers shimmer with electric energy. With sharp talons and a beak that crackles with electricity, this creature strikes fear into the hearts of all who witness its aerial prowess.

—--

'Okay. Since Indra already has thunder-type attacks and Ferto has fire-type attacks, I should go with the Ironclad Rhino. It can give protection as well as attack thanks to its horn.' Viel thought.

"Thanks little brother, I owe you one for this."

"It's nothing." Lux replied. "Are you going to visit Grandma soon?"

"Yes. As soon as I'm done with something, I'm returning home.

Viel went to the Mayor's Office to tell Nevreal which monster's blood he wanted.

...

"So you want the blood from the Deimos-rank Ironclad Rhino, right?" Nevreal asked Viel.

"Yes." Viel replied.

"Ok." Nevreal said. "You will receive the blood along with the other rewards by tomorrow morning."

"Thank you." Viel said while bowing.

"You don't need to thank me or his Majesty, you have saved our kingdom and prevented it from a great disaster." Nevreal explained.

The next day, a package was waiting for Viel in front of the door of his room. When he opened it, he found inside a crystal bottle filled with a dark-red thick liquid, a very old looking book and two adorned books.

The last ones were the Skill Books. He inspected them to see their contents. After all, he was told he would be able to choose them, but due to the Abominations incident, most of them were given to high-ranking members of the Army.

Then he picked up the old book. On the cover it said: Journal of Ereban #2.

--------------------------------------

**Date: Unknown**.

Years have passed since Alatar and I decided to go our own way, away from our master.

As I mentioned in my previous journal, the power of my master, ■■■, just kept growing. Alatar and I could not help but begin to fear it. We were the first on a new path, I on the path of death, and he on the path of life. But still, we did not believe we could ever overpower him if his power continued to grow.

Our master possessed a power that defied all understanding, and our ambition made us fear that his power would soon become eternally unattainable. So, in the shadow of night, we faced him. We poisoned him. It was a poison designed by me, that would prevent him from using mana for a few hours. The effect was reduced due to his powerful soul, but after a hard battle, we managed to end his life.

After his departure, Alatar and I found a treasure in his private sanctuary that I will keep secret to this day. I took the ■■■ and Alatar took the ■■■. This treasure led me to seek solitude in a place near the kingdom of Gweliven, the place of my birth, in order to study its workings and explore the arts of necromancy.

Here, in a place of which I reserve the location, surrounded by the whispers of wandering souls and the song of crows, I deepened my studies in necromancy. Every night, in the quiet darkness, I explored the secrets of life and death, trying to unravel the mysteries that even my master could not unravel, but could have done so more easily than I, though it pains me to admit it.

My days were filled with dark experiments, forbidden practices and an unwavering desire to understand. As my skills took hold, I made way for others who would follow my path, the one that tames souls and defies nature itself, necromancy. It was my duty as the Necromancy's Progenitor. And so, in my solitary retreat, I write this journal, so that those who follow me may understand that death is just another chapter in the story of life.

May this testimony serve as a guide and warning to future necromancers, and may the secrets I discovered here in the darkness not be used in vain. Life and death are intertwined in ways that only the bravest and most reckless can understand.

As for where I conducted my research, I will leave a poem for you to decipher.
