Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

*knock knock* there was a pounding on the door.

Marcus went out into the hall to check who it was.

I looked up to see who it was when Marcus walked back in.

It was Finn and he was carrying some kind of box with him.

"Hey, what's that?" I asked pointing at the box.

"Oh, it's the things you had asked for." Finn answered as he set the box down on the counter.

"Thanks, I seriously needed them." I said with a smile and then turned back to the dishes.

Finn left and Marcus left behind him. After I finished washing the dishes, I dried them and put them into the basket.

Marcus had come back about five minutes later and I gave him the basket and he left again.

Sighing I went back up to my room and went to sleep.

Sitting up abruptly, I felt a sharp pain in my head.

I sat there in bed with my head in my hands as I massaged my aching forehead.

My breath came out in small pants as I tried to level down my breathing. There was an uncomfortable pain in my chest.

I took a gulp of water from the bottle I had placed on the side table.

I sat there and tried my best to settle my breathing down.

Did I dream of it again? Why can't I just forget about it once and for all...

I sighed and took out a photo from the drawer.

The photo took place when we were visiting my grandfather from my dad's side last year in Australia.

We were all smiling happily up at the camera, Me, My mum and dad, my Grandfather, and Evelyn, my younger sister...

I sighed as I started at the photo and remembered the tragedy that took place just a week after this photo was taken.

I shook my head hard to snap myself out of my reverie.

Standing up, I walked out to the bathroom to freshen up for the day.

I walked back into my room and changed my clothes.

As I strode downstairs a couple of minutes later, I remembered that I had to check on the babies so I ran back upstairs.

Walking back downstairs a little while later, I walked out to see that Melanie and Marcus were waiting for me with the bikes.

I strode over to them and got onto my bike.

We rode out of the neighborhood and out onto the road.

It was mostly clear but there were still some cars crashed into each other in different places.

We rode past them up to the first building that was there.

It was a company building and looked like it reached the sky. Too tall. No grassy grounds.

We rode past it to another building that looked like it was an apartment duplex. No grounds. And there would probably be a lot of dead bodies as well.

Skipping that one, we rode farther and farther till we reached a building that looked like some kind of school.

I got off my bike and checked the sign on the lawn. 'Starstone College'.

The building was a mile or four away and was consequently in the center of our three neighborhoods.

It had a huge ground area and probably had big enough rooms. We got off our bikes to go and check for the dead bodies.

"I only found some guards. There's no one else." Marcus informed us a small while later when we met up at the front again.

"I guess the students had been sent home before it got worse." I said with a sigh as I sat down on the grass.

"Can someone go and get the others? I don't feel like getting up anymore." I grumbled as I lay down on the grass and stared at the clear sky.

"I'll go get them. Here, you guys eat while I'm gone." Melanie said, handing Marcus the basket as she got onto her bike.

Marcus sat down next to me and handed me a sandwich. I took it from him and sat up as Melanie rode off.

We sat and ate a few sandwiches then closed the basket up and put it down next to us on the grass.

Sitting and waiting was one of the most boring things to do, especially when the thing you were waiting for took more than half an hour.

I just sighed and lay back down on the long grass, staring up at the cloudless sky.

"This is taking so long..." I grumbled holding my head as I sat with my back to a tree.

"Have some water." Marcus said handing me a bottle of water with a small chuckle.

"This is not funny! Stop laughing!" I yelled at him as he broke out into a fit of laughter at my words and fell to the ground.

"Sorry, sorry." he mumbled as he covered his mouth with a small chuckle.

I just glared at him which he answered with a cheerful smile.

"Why you?!" I yelled as I stood up with a glare.

*poof* I landed in his arms as I tripped on my own feet.

"W-what?" I stuttered as I looked up at his face which had slowly started turning red.

I pushed him off of me and took the bottle of water from his hand.

I just sat down next to the tree again as Marcus went off to the building for some reason.

Just then Melanie arrived with the others. I got up and splashed my face with some water and went to go see them.

Marcus walked off into the building and ran off towards the restrooms.

He strode in and stood in front of the mirror. His face was a bright rad almost resembling a tomato.

He opened the tap and splashed some cold water in his face.

He looked up at his expression again and lowered his head when he saw that it made no difference.

*sigh* "Why did she have to look so cute?" He whispered under his breath as he held his burning face.

Taking a few deep breaths, he walked and headed back outside.

"Hey, Marcus!"
