Chapter 36 - Chapter 35: Battling Swarms and Silent Challenges

As the group stepped out of Lana's house, they were met with an unexpected obstacle—a swarm of zombies blocking their path. The sight of such a large horde startled them because it was the first time they have encountered a large number of zombies, maybe thousands at that, so they quickly gathered their wits.

"Looks like we've got some trouble ahead," Rachel said, her voice filled with determination.

Drey assessed the situation and decided to unleash his arsenal of robotic plasma drones. Sixty of them emerged, firing laser beams with precision and efficiency. "Don't worry, we got this." The drones sliced through the zombie horde, creating a path for the group to advance.

"Wow, those drones are truly incredible no matter how many times I'm watching them!" Shauna exclaimed, her eyes wide with amazement.

Lana nodded in agreement, her gaze fixed on the drones. "I know right? I still can't believe the technology we have at our disposal. It's like something out of a sci-fi movie."

With the swarm nearly defeated, Drey's sharp eyes caught sight of several large mutated zombies, similar to the ones he had encountered at the settlement. Without hesitation, he equipped his Neon Suit, the futuristic armor obtained from the towering mutant the previous night.

The mutated giants loomed before them, their grotesque appearances momentarily startling Rachel and the others as it was the first time they have seen them. However, Drey's skill and agility quickly dispatched them, leaving the group in amazement.

"Seriously, Drey, you're like a superhero," Jamie exclaimed, her admiration evident in her voice.

Drey chuckled, his gaze shifting to Rachel. Before he could react, Rachel leaned forward and planted a quick kiss on his cheek, a playful challenge in her eyes.

The other girls gasped in surprise, their expressions a mix of shock and amusement. Shauna couldn't help but tease, "Well, well, Rachel. Looks like you've made your move."

Rachel flashed a victorious smile, her eyes shining mischievously. "Early bird catches the worm! It's what they say, right?"

The other girls exchanged glances, silently accepting the unspoken challenge.

Carl grinned, knowing exactly what was happening. "I see love is in the air. May the best girl win," he teased, earning a playful shove from Lana.

Their journey continued, the battles growing smoother as the group effortlessly annihilated the zombies in their path. Aegis, the invisible robot, communicated with Drey telepathically, hinting that sooner or later a surprise drop from the fallen enemies will be received by him. Drey's curiosity was piqued, looking forward to the mysterious surprise.

As they entered mini-marts to scavenge for supplies, Drey revealed a surprising secret he possessed an inventory that could store nearly unlimited items. The group was momentarily taken aback, but they knew Drey was full of surprises.

"You are full of mysteries, Drey," Lana remarked, a mix of amusement in her voice.

With a renewed sense of adventure, they resumed their trip, the relationship between them growing stronger with each passing day. Little did they know that more surprises awaited them on the path ahead, but together, they were ready to face whatever the post-apocalyptic world had in store.
