As another week passed, Aegis informed Drey that they would reach City T in less than five days. The news filled Lana and Shauna with excitement and hope, their anticipation for reaching their destination growing with each passing day.
"I can't believe we're almost there," Shauna exclaimed a sparkle of joy in her eyes.
Lana nodded, a wide smile gracing her face. "I can't wait to see my family again. It's been so long..."
Throughout the past week, the girls playfully speculated on who might capture Drey's attention. They giggled and teased, but Drey only smiled back, appreciating their company without showing any clear favoritism. Carl took it upon himself to playfully tease Drey about his admirers.
"You're a lucky guy, Drey. All these girls swooning over you," Carl chuckled, earning a playful nudge from Jamie.
Drey smiled, "Well, It's a good feeling that four pretty women see trying to grab your attention." The girls giggled at this remark.
Also, Drey's inventory system was already an ever-growing treasure trove of futuristic items energy cells, food, and plasma weapons. The group marveled at Drey's ability to stockpile such advanced equipment, but they refrained from pressing the matter too much. Rachel and Jamie discussed it among themselves.
"I wonder how Drey manages to gather all these items. It's like he has an endless supply," Rachel mused, her eyes filled with curiosity.
Jamie shrugged, a hint of admiration in her voice. "He's always been resourceful and mysterious. It's one of the things I find captivating about him."
Aegis, the more advanced-looking drone, had introduced itself to the group as an advanced-friendly companion. However, Drey had yet to disclose his 100% Drop Rate System to the others.
The group became acquainted with Aegis right away, discussing its capabilities and role in their journey. Shauna, Lana, Jamie, Rachel, and Carl shared their thoughts on Aegis.
"It's amazing how Aegis can assist us. Having an extra set of eyes and advanced mapping is reassuring," Shauna commented, her voice filled with appreciation.
Lana nodded, her gaze fixed on the drone. "I feel safer knowing Aegis is looking out for us. It's like having a guardian angel."
During their weeklong journey, the group couldn't help but feel a sense of melancholy as they encountered only silent streets and hordes of zombies. The absence of other survivors weighed heavily on their hearts. Drey offered them words of comfort, reminding them to stay strong and hopeful. Rachel and Jamie discussed their emotions about the lack of life they encountered.
"It's just so sad, you know? The emptiness of it all," Rachel expressed, a tinge of sorrow in her voice.
Jamie sighed, leaning on Rachel for support. "I keep hoping we'll stumble upon more survivors, but it seems like a distant dream."
Despite the somber moments, the group found ease in Drey's ever-watchful drones. They soared above, numbering close to 120, creating a shield of protection. The presence of the robotic guardians brought a sense of safety and allowed them to continue their journey with a newfound sense of peace. Shauna and Carl discussed their reliance on drones.
"I must admit, those drones make me feel so much safer, I can even sleep in the middle of the streets if they are surrounding me," Shauna smiled with a hint of acknowledgment in her voice.
Carl nodded, his eyes scanning the sky. "They're like our loyal sentinels, always keeping watch. It's impressive."
Unbeknownst to the group, a surprise awaited them in City T an unknown twist that would soon be revealed. Their anticipation and curiosity grew with each passing day, uncertainty mingling with hope as they took another step closer to their destination.
