Chapter 4 - My Personal Magic Academy (3)

—This is extracurricular, you could say — added Maika, as she summoned out of thin air her silver hand gun— but cases like mine are rare, of people who specialize in more than one type of magic. What you always need to keep in mind is that regardless of what type of wizard you are facing, there is always a trick. Nonetheless, Aiden, I don't do this for you to go peel against other wizards. Understood?

Maika waited for Aiden's immediate gesture in response to her order, then continued.

—They have to follow a process to project their magic, so if you ever find yourself in something dangerous, analyze how the wizard acts, what religion they belong to, how they dress, etc. All the information you can get is useful to try to decipher what process they need to activate their magic, or on which ideology's shoulders their magical research is built.

Maika crossed her arms while her left hand held her index finger, alternating between pointing at Aiden and moving from side to side to the rhythm of her words.

—Look for their weak point and the way to intervene before attacking, then, it won't be a guaranteed victory, but you'll have a greater chance. In most cases, at least. You see, complying with a process is a law, but remember that there can always be special cases and exceptions, as well as monsters. If you ever come across one, run away. Of course, for that, I am here, to keep you safe, but let's hope that doesn't happen. And that would be all for today, Aiden.

Upon hearing these words, Aiden finally managed to relax. The time to return to the normal world had come.

Both youth walked towards the fence that surrounded the abandoned district. Normally, it would be impossible to access because of the electrified fences, sensors, and surveillance cameras here and there, keeping the area in order, but they were not normal kids.

As soon as he could relax, Aiden felt one of his most fundamental basic needs, after all, it was that time of day.

—Right, Maika, now that we finished today's induction. Why don't we go for something to eat?

—Today I must pass up the opportunity. I have to take care of some things and go see the dorms.

—Oh, right. Sorry, I had forgotten, today is finally…

The metal door, fabricated with Maika's magic, made a screech the moment Aiden opened it. At the same time, he himself didn't notice, but he slightly inclined his head and his lips arched in the opposite direction to someone happy.

—But maybe I'll go to your dorm to prepare something between the two of us, you know, not to waste what's left over from the other day. I'll send you a confirmation message later, okay?

Maika walked in front of Aiden with both hands held on her back, so she didn't notice the change in the young man's expression, and how it changed from north to south instantly.

—Yes! There is still meat from the last time, I'll go shopping for some vegetables before returning to the holy cave.

Where had the dark expression that the boy put on a few moments ago gone? Anyone seeing them would understand without hearing the answer.

—Finally, a date with a teacher! —said Aiden—. How exciting, huhuhu. Note to self, strike that from bucket-list.

—It's a date, then —laughingly, said the brown-hair girl as she picked up speed.

There was no way for him to know, but the embarrassment Maika felt was almost unbearable, so she decided to bring up another topic of conversation, anything was fine, she just wanted to change the atmosphere.

—Right, I almost forgot.

And the first thing that came to his mind was, of course, something related to magic.

—As a final piece of advice for today, just in case, I recommend reading a lot about the main religions and legends before bed, even if it's not a lot, it can help you. It doesn't matter if any of those legends are false, there are several magicians who incorporate current legends or altered versions of them into their magic. After all, the internet is wonderful. Who knows when it could come in handy? —Maika added jovially at the end.

Aiden looked away awkwardly, the memory of what happened just a few days ago, when they fought at school, immediately jumped into his mind.

He nodded to himself, the internet is incredible, but for some reason that he didn't quite understand, he also felt that he had done something very embarrassing. Although those days of idle fantasy he called "research," helped him get where he is now, for Aiden it was still part of an embarrassing episode from the past. He did not want Maika or anyone to keep reminding him of it.

—With a couple of hours of searching, who knows what you might find, right?

Without any warning, Maika turned towards Aiden with a sincere smile perfectly drawn on her face.

Aiden looked at her for a moment and then, like her, a smile formed on his face, erasing the uncomfortable expression.

—You're right.

Thus, both youths took different paths.

This was another day, a common and ordinary Sunday of their new life. Remembering how he had come here, to have this peace that was like a dream within a dream that made him wake up.

The topic of his ability was something he really didn't want to think about. He didn't understand why, but this ability doesn't go with magic, he himself experienced a rebound by invoking a power with other laws that do not belong to the one originally belong to.

«This small line that doesn't seem to have much importance almost cost me my life» Aiden pondered. «In other words, I can't use magic without risking stopping my heart or losing the ability to see because a vein in my head suddenly might explode. And Maika, who is forced to teach me how to control my power through her knowledge of magic, understands it, but she's not really aware of the risk, as my condition is special. Or so said that lab-coat man. If she knew, though, she would have never accepted conducting these experiments».
