Chapter 126 - Start of new days 2

"Explain to me why I'm playing cards with you?" Sarah asked.

"I'm bored." Brandon said. "All the daemon attacks are killed before we get there. And Blake and Shino aren't around to play with me."

"You could just play a car game or something."

"I need to test my intellect."

Sarah stared at him for awhile. "You just love cards don't you."

"Yes. Yes I do." Brandon said.

"What are you guys doing?" Queens asked as he was passing by.

"Playing cards." Brandon said

"Wasting time." Sarah added.

"Nice."

"Um… Mr. Queens. What now?" Sarah asked.

"As in?"

Sarah took a deep breath, "As in now? There aren't really daemon anywhere. Kyler and Shino are handling most of them. Its like…"

"We're useless?"

"Ye…yeah."

"Cause we are."

"Way to relay our fears." Brandon laughed.

"We'll all go our separate ways. Some of us will probably enlist. Others would retire. And some of us will stay. Everything as its end."

"Doesn't feel that way though." Sarah said, "Everything feels…"

"Gloomy." Brandon said, "Its like nobody wants this to end. But at the same time we want it to."

"And what of those of us ho have nowhere else to go? Do we just find a new life?"

"Yes. Unfortunately, that's exactly what you'd have to do. Either that or join the Shield."

"I don't want to."

"Then get a new life."

"Seems complicated."

Queens sighed. "Then congratulations. You've just joined 90% of the inquisitors. Now we'll all have a party."

"The world is free from the evil of the daemon, the world is free from the terrros of monsters and yet it seems as if it is more unsafe than it ever was." Dean said.

All eyes turned to him.

"Hello." Dean said

"H…Hi." Brandon replied. "Cool speech."

"Why thank you…by the way, Martha wants you to meet her at the Shield base. She has an assignment for you."

"Finally," Sarah said standing up.

"As I said, 90%." Queens said. The two of them walked towards the armory while Brandon stayed behind.

"What she said about not having anywhere to go…is it like that for most of the inquisitors?" Brandon asked Dean.

"Sadly yes. Some have lost their families. Others don't have any, and the rest cannot go back. That is why we must value the time we have with our family, even if it may seem like a burden."

"Or a pain." Brandon said.

"Yes. Even that."

"Wrong key." Sharon said. "Again."

"I know, you don't need to be saying it over again." Damien said, resuming to play on the piano. Sharon paced up and down, reading the book that belonged to Damien. Dimitri and Ernst watched the two for a while, both eating hamburgers.

"So this is life now, huh?" Dimitri said "Watching these two play a sit-com all day long. Must be nice."

"Yeah. I don't know which is better anymore, this or a daemon's vestorer."

"Nah I'll take the vestorer any day." Kanon said as she sat between the two. "I'll be watching this and remember that she punches holes in daemon."

"Yeah. But I'm kinda interested in what it'll be like."

"What I'm interested in is the book Sharon is reading."

"Here we go again." Kanon groaned.

"I can't be the only one interested. Damien has been using that book for as long as I've known him, and yet he continues to use. I must at least see a word of it."

"Your funeral." Kanon said.

Donna couldn't tell which was noisier, the screams from the daemon as a thousand watts of electricity was being coursed through its body or the constant squeals of Kaien as he continued to bash and slam his drums. It put an uncomfortable feeling in her guts and she didn't like it one bit.

She stood on the barrister, watching the dark abyss that could be seen from above. Her mind settling on the events of the past. And the events on the present. Ordinarily, she would be in Hawaii getting a massage while under the glow of the hot sun, catching u on her favorite series or reading a script for a new movie she was going to be starring in. Classic Donna stuff.

But after her audition in Paris, Kael called telling her to deliver a package to him, paying her a large sum. Donna wasn't really interested in the money, just what kind of package it was…only to be surprised by a set of drums. Kael was really unpredictable.

Besides that, the prison was rather quiet. Oz was sorting through some files in his office. Most of the inquisitors weren't around, off doing something else with their lives. The prisoners were asleep, dreaming of the day they get released, probably.

Her presence wasn't really needed.

She could probably go visit Diego and pass some time before heading to Hawaii. Then she also remembered that interview with someone about her life as an actress/inquisitor. That would have to wait. And with Klaus in Germany, there would be any awkwardness.

She turned, heading towards the lower levels. Thirst was something one could ignore easily in a cold place like this but Valerie would get on her nerves again if she did.
