Chapter 17 - Campfire story

It was a dark and stormy night, just like the one we're having now. I was out on a camping trip with a group of friends, and we had set up our tents in a remote area of the woods. It was a beautiful spot, surrounded by tall trees and a gentle stream that flowed nearby. But as we settled down for the night, we began to hear strange noises coming from the woods.

At first, we thought it might just be the wind rustling the leaves, but the noises grew louder and more distinct. We heard twigs snapping, branches cracking, and leaves rustling in a way that didn't sound quite natural. We tried to ignore it and go to sleep, but the noises persisted throughout the night.

Then, in the middle of the night, we heard a blood-curdling scream. It was so loud and so terrifying that we all bolted upright in our tents, hearts pounding. We could tell the scream had come from somewhere nearby, but we couldn't see anything through the darkness.

We tried to calm ourselves down and convince ourselves that it was just an animal, but deep down, we all knew that something wasn't right. And then, we heard footsteps circling our tents. Heavy, deliberate footsteps that seemed to be getting closer and closer.

We were all frozen in fear, unsure of what to do. We didn't have any weapons, and we were in the middle of nowhere. And then, suddenly, the footsteps stopped. There was a moment of silence, and then we heard a low, guttural growling sound. It was like nothing any of us had ever heard before, and it sent shivers down our spines.

We huddled together in our tents, too scared to even whisper to each other. And then, just as suddenly as it had started, the growling stopped. The footsteps retreated back into the woods, and the sounds of the night returned to their normal rhythms.

The next morning, we packed up our things and left that spot as quickly as we could. We never found out what had happened that night, but we all knew that we had experienced something truly terrifying. And to this day, I still get chills thinking about that camping trip horror.
