"Elizabeth you're here." Matilda said as she led Eliza into the sitting room.
"is Mrs Roberts home?" Eliza asked.
"what's the matter is everything alright?" She asked worried.
"nothing I'll just like to see her." She replied.
"sure no problem, she's in the study." Matilda replied her and went back to the kitchen.
Amanda took a deep breath as she gave a slight knock on the door.
"whose there?" Mrs Robert voice asked.
"it's me." Eliza replied.
"Elizabeth you're here." She stood up swiftly as she went over to the door to welcome her in.
"Come on seat." She said as they both sat down on the big sofa at the corner of the study.
"why did you abandon me when I was just a day old." Eliza questioned, leaving Mrs Roberts speechless.
"I...I...". she stammered as Eliza interrupted "what have you got to say?"
"I knew it was a waste of my time to come and see you." She hissed.
"that's not true dear." She replied as she placed her hand on Eliza's shoulder but she shrugged her off.
"Mrs Roberts, if there is no answer to my question I think I'll leave". She said as she picked up her handbag ready to leave.
"wait!" Mrs Roberts stopped.
"I'll tell you the truth since that's what you want right." She asked looking at her daughter.
"I found out that I was pregnant a month after your father's death." She started.
"After your father's death I had to manage his job and mine and I had no time to take care of anything, anyone and I'm really sorry." She cried.
"two months before your delivery, your father's business got bankrupt and we were left with nothing except from this house."
"I worked hard everyday, even though I was pregnant. I worked as a waitress, even a cleaner. I received many insults but I endured all." She stated holding her daughter's hand and this time Eliza didn't flinch. she couldn't believe that the one who she despised so much went through all this for her and her brother.
"the nanny I employed for your brother back then also left since I couldn't pay the large amount of money they charged."
"but how did nanny Matilda..."
"I met her at the hospital. she helped me after I delivered you, I told her all I went through and she agreed to take care of you two for free." She replied.
"I'm sorry...I'm sorry for how I behaved, for how I treated you please forgive me." Eliza begged as she helped onto Mrs Roberts.
"I forgive you my dear, I was equally at fault I shouldn't have hid the truth from you two please forgive me." Mrs Roberts sobbed.
"I forgive you mum." Eliza replied as she cried her tears.
