Chapter 39 - Legend Thirteen Part Six

Each pair had cooked enough to serve Master Rauly, a few of his maids and themselves. The first to present their dish was Lucian the wolf and his maid Luna the rabbit. Being the first to escape the greenhouse, they had put together something that required no ingredients from it.

The rabbit and wolf presented a classic breakfast from their homeland. Scrambled Balour bird eggs, strips of bacon cut from a large forbidden wood hog, and biscuits full of Sqwuck goat butter.

Canglo the dragon maid, and Nushi her Mistress presented traditional bowls of noodles that were rolled from magically infused wemble wheat and included rare vegetables that were found in the greenhouse, as well as some small chunks of meat from a Chichin.

Skippy the half mouse maid and her Master James the human, presented one of the more boring, though still classic in their homeland dishes. They were bowls of hollow half circle noodles completely covered in Crumple cow cheese with no sides or anything else whatsoever.

Akaihana the demon maid, and her Master King Barric, presented what Barric assured his maid was an Ol' Tamiran classic. Lengths of mage sausage made from the byproduct of magical creatures, laid between plain bread and drizzled with a spicy chili concocted from a mix of the local beans as well as giant beanstalk beans, and troll spice which was made from the ground toenails of said trolls.

The last to present were Layla the elf maid and her newly acquainted Mistress Lucy. Their dish seemed simple enough as it was just a bowl of completely normal, not special, nor magical in any way rice, topped with a thick syrup. In fact it was the syrup from the Sqenis guy trap that Lucy was able to carefully collect from Lucy and use as a topping for the rice.

Just as the final dish was about to be tasted, Sylas and Quinn entered the dining room. To their embarrassment everyone looked up all at once and many eyebrows were raised. There was an awkward silence before Quinn finally spoke up.

"Uh… don't mind us, we didn't make anything," the cat girl assured them before the pair took their seats awkwardly.

Master Rauly and his maids finally began their tasting of the final dish and as they took the first bite of rice topped with syrup there was a noticeable pause.

"Amazing…" Momo the goblin maid whispered to no one in particular before quickly scooping more of the rice and syrup into her mouth.

Master Rauly nodded.

"Amazing is right… The rice is so simple yet the syrup is not. It's sweet, savory, almost like a candy, but with a hint of something sexual to it. It's devine like the fluid of two virgin lovers becoming entwined for the first time. Maid Layla, Mistress Lucy, I think it's quite obvious you are the winners of our game of food. And seeing as Maid Quinn and Master Sylas failed to produce anything, they will be the first eliminated," Master Rauly declared.

All of his maids nodded at the same time while Sylas simply sighed unsurprised and Quinn stomped her foot.

"Well fuck!" she yelled, in a short burst of exaggerated anger.

"As for the rest of you," Master Rauly continued. "Your meals were all delicious, even the odd troll chili."

Barric elbowed Hana.

"See! I told ya!" he whispered to her. The demon seemed almost annoyed that their dish had gone over well.

"Everyone is free to do as they please for the rest of the day. Quinn and Sylas, even though you have been eliminated you may stay for the rest of the competition. We will play the next game tomorrow morning, I bid everyone a good day," Master Rauly finished, leaning back in his chair. All of his personal maids began to take all the dishes away and begin the breakfast clean up.

The party who were all sitting near each other at the moment huddled close, including Lucy.

"Well damn Sylas I didn't think you two would be the first to lose," Barric said.

"Neither did I, but it seems our cat got too involved with the plant," he explained.

"Hey! You said you weren't mad!" Quinn pouted.

"I'm not… But maybe just disappointed," the demon said.

Quinn narrowed his eyes at the demon.

"It's cool, I think Lucy and I can win this thing!" Layla said, causing Lucy to blush.

"That would be an entertaining thought if me and Master weren't clearly going to win this for everyone," Hana informed her in a very matter-of-factly tone.

"Is that right?" Layla challenged.

"It is! And when we win you will have no one else to thank but us, and us alone!" Hana assured her.

"Wait, so all of you know each other?" Lucy asked.

There was an awkward pause.

"Wait, did you not tell her yet?" Barric asked.

"I didn't think it was that important," Layla replied.

"Yes, this is my master, his hopeless sister, and their pet cat and demon! Ahhaha!" Hana laughed to herself.

Sylas snarled at her and raised an eyebrow while Quinn began to day dream about being the King's pet.

"The fuck do you mean hopeless?" Layla asked, narrowing her eyes at the demon.

"Is it not obvious?" Hana asked. "The way you follow your brother around like a lost puppy," Hana went on.

"I thought you didn't have puppies in demonland of where ever the fuck?" Layla asked.

"We do, but they are livestock for delicacy meals," Hana answered.

"Wait so you all know each other and just happened to show up for this competition?" Lucy asked, trying to interrupt the argument on purpose.

"We are-" Sylas began, but was immediately interrupted by Layla.

"Yes, we are! Exactly that! We're all friends that met up to come play in this competition, though I was without a Mistress," Layla assured her, telling a half truth.

The entire party was silent for a moment as they all looked at Layla, confused, but keeping their comments to themselves.

"Oh, that's cool," Lucy said, looking around at all of them. "So what are you all gonna do for the rest of the day?" she asked.

Layla let out a long sigh.

"Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm gonna go take a nap after all that," she said, taking Lucy's hand. "Will you join me Mistress?" she asked, giving her a big smile and looking at her with her big green eyes.

"Well of course... How could I say no?" she said, allowing herself to be pulled along by the elf.

The party watched in silence as the human allowed the elf to pull her along out of the dining hall and down the hall.

There was a silence among them for a moment before finally Quinn spoke up.

"I don't think Layla told her why we're actually here..." the cat girl speculated out loud.

The rest of the party nodded all at once.
