Chapter 9 - Legend Seven Part Three

Sure enough he would make his way to the tiny door and begin to wander down the dark passageway until he finally bumped into something in the dark. He felt around in the dark for a moment to realize it was another door and eventually found the handle which was thankfully unlocked. He opened the door and to his surprise a forest was revealed. Though this was like no forest he had ever seen. There were giant mushrooms blooming from the ground the size of great oaks, which in itself wasn't that unheard of in Siriuhs, but it was just about everything else that was odd. All of the trees and the mushrooms seemed to be bright clashing colors that all emitted a sort of pale glow to show the entire forest in it's colorful glory even though it was still night.

The King stepped fully through the door into the strange forest and realized the door he had just come from was sitting right in the side of a large mushroom. As odd as it all was he continued on, making his way through the glowing forest with absolutely no sense of direction.

He walked and walked for what seemed like nearly an hour and seemed to get nowhere, until he finally came to a bright green tree that was a little larger than the rest. The tree was plastered with old wooden signs that each pointed in different directions and seemed to be marked with all sorts of nonsense.

There was a sign that pointed up that was marked south, a sign that pointed down marked north, a sign that pointed to the left marked east, and a sign that was pointed right marked left. There were some that just had the names of supposed locations they were guiding would be travelers to. Each location's name was more ridiculous than the last. One reading; "Sqweebel", the next "Sqwabel", the next "Skringus", and then "Library".

The King sighed realizing just how lost in this odd land he was. He was about to take his chances and head in the direction of the library when he heard a voice that almost made him jump.

"Going somewhere?" The voice asked, though it was familiar, in fact it sounded just like Quinn.

Barric spun around, looking for the source of the voice, but seeing nothing around him until he noticed something odd in the green tree. He looked up to see a sort of floating mouth. As odd as it was and as much as it freaked him out at first his thoughts would soon wander straight to the lewd.

"Well I was going to try. I'm not really sure where I was in the first place." The King admitted.

"And where is it you are trying to go?" The floating mouth asked as two big eyes started to appear above it, both large and yellow.

"Well I don't care as long as-"

"Well it doesn't matter which way you go if you don't care." The floating face said as it soon became an entire head from nowhere.

"Well as long as I get somewhere that isn't here." The King added.

"That's easy enough, just pick a direction, walk long enough and you're sure to get somewhere that isn't here, and then you'll be there." The cat explained in a matter-Of-factly sort of tone. The cat's entire body started to manifest now as if appearing in layers of color. He looked just like Quinn except he was purple instead of golden yellow.

The King sighed once again at the cat's useless advice.

"Are there any people around here?" Barric asked.

"A little... Some... A few..." The cat said, looking about as he thought. "That a way lives the Hatter" The cat pointed with his finger. "And that a way lives the Hare." The cat pointed with his tail in the opposite direction. "But do be careful, they're both mad, you know." The cat warned him.

"Mad? What are they mad about?" The King asked.

The cat grinned wide, his smile somehow going even past his cheeks.

"Not angry, just… not all there, but then again neither am I." He said, as he began to vanish slowly, starting at the tip of his tail and moving up his body until once again he was nothing but floating smile and eyes.

"No worries though, we're all mad here." The cat said, his eyes dissapaiting and leaving only his smile behind.

Barric raised an eyebrow.

"So when you're just a mouth can you still…?" He asked just as the smiling fanged mouth disappeared.

"Wouldn't you like to…" He heard the cat's voice begin.

"KNOW!" He said, suddenly reappearing right in front of the King's face before vanishing once again with a giggle.

"Fuck!" Barric yelled just before he flinched and stumbled back to land right on his rear.

He looked around to make sure the cat was really gone this time before finding himself alone again. He sighed once more and picked himself, deciding he would try his best to follow the cat's rough directions. He headed off in the direction of the Hatter, wondering all the while.
