Chereads / The Dark Rebirth: A Vampire's Descent into Darkness / Chapter 17 - The thrill of the unknown

Chapter 17 - The thrill of the unknown

Adrian , with an accompanying Aethelstan, had apologized to Dawn. The vampire had stayed in the same position, his face hidden by golden locks, he was tense and evidence clearly pointed out that he had cried. Sadness brimmed heavily in his eyes, which were puffy and swollen.

The three of them stayed in silence, Adrian twirling both blue and golden as he sat leaning on Aethelstan, legs over Dawn's as he pondered about the meanings of the assigned mission.

Ancford, an ancient city with ruins stretched far and wide.

All but forgotten....except for six figures dressed in the blackest of cloaks.

Their voices argued back and forth in the only room that was ,at least, partly standing.

A small flame flickered on the table, a light only accompanied by the light of the moon.

It was a beautiful moon, the silence disturbed only by the six voices.

Their discussions ranged from important to lesser topics, some taking seconds other minutes and the dissatisfied grunts were promptly ignored.

"Well then, now that we finally solved the majority. We can move on to the most important one. Because I have recieved news."

"If a certain someone wasn't making a fuss about the difference in artifacts then this wouldn't have taken this long!"

"It's an important subject. If only you weren't faster then the intelligence that's been trying to catch up on you? then you would understand.''

"You!!-''

"Stop it, you two. Now seeing as you waited so long you news must be quite something."

"You heard it, Ghost. Shut it like the dog you are."

"Silent, speak."

"Now as we all know the vampires have been on lockdown for the past fifteen years."

"Get to the point"

"Patience, fiery.

Either way I have recieved news, that has been proven true.

For fifteen years speculation has heightened as to why the vampires his away."

"Are you saying you know why?"

Tense as they were, everyone came to that outcome.

"How interesting~''

"It is, isn't it?

Since I have your attention, I will lay down the deal.

I tell you the reason and you can do whatever you want, in return I have a request."

"A request? You?"

"Yes you see, I'm just about dying to see someone after fifteen years again. A very....close acquaintance."

"It's unusual for you to show interest in something, Silent but whatever you request I'll agree."

"I appreciate it captain but it's not your help I request. Phantom, ghost, how about it?"

The two who had been engaged in a glaring match, turned intrigued. Silent's gaze was pressuring but neither cared.

"You just need to make sure he lands into my hands. For what you'll get in return....well it's more than worth it."

''You're acting weird, Silent. Whoever this is, is he really befitting of your attention?"

"..That's enough, cuddly. You know the rules, we do not interfere in personal business. Which I assume this is, Silent!"

With a snort, Silent answered "More like unfinished business."

"Fine. I agree. What about you phantom? Scared?"

"As always, jumping in without thinking, Ghost. Agreed, now tell us your findings."

"Good!

My spy has found out the reason, which is the existence of someone that shouldn't exist. We all know about the existence of the curse, a curse that existed even before they reached Earth."

"Are you implying what I think you're implying?"

"That's right. There is a child, approximately fifteen years old. What a coincidence, isn't it."

"If that's true then why aren't more?"

"That I don't know. You need to handle it quickly because when breaking into the castle they found out about her existence so they will be on guard."

"Right, Ghost, meet me at ten.

Phantom out. "

Black covered form of phantom flickered before disappearing altogether, Ghost following without any regard to the others.

"Those two..-"Fiery sighed as he contemplated the news."-Are you certain?"

"No doubt about it."

"The child will be forced to come this way and will be forced to join the academy of Aurelia. He's already a year late considering that all children ,of most species, have mandatory attendance.

But how will your unfinished business get here? They might only open the barrier for seconds and then never open again."

"Don't worry about it, he will have no choice but to come.

You know I have my ways. Now then I have more things to do.''

After Silent was gone, the others followed him and dealt with their own things.

Adrian still knew nothing as he wandered around the castle halls, while that fact was met with dismay he couldn't help the feeling of thrill growing .

It swirled around his fingers, pooled in his stomach and in search of privacy he blocked the bond for a little while.

It was so exciting, being born with a golden spoon in his mouth as his godmother was Queen and even as a vampire.

He had even gained powerful mentors.

Aiwen ,who knew a lot about everything. Cole, who carefully mentored his growth and made sure he had everything he needed.

Talking about needs, even Angesi tried her best to help wherever he needed. Although Adrian wasn't sure if it was really for him and not just for the fact that it could impress Aethelstan. (Which it didn't.)

Everyone involved in the matter with the marquis of hell had become aware of the bond and yet there was still no clue as to why it existed. Apparently it happened various times at least a dozen times but never with two people from different races, so there was that.

Mmh, he was in fact going to miss this place, for he wasn't even sure if he would be allowed to come back.

Adrian stilled, the bud of slight anxiety opened. A whole other world was opening for him but people facing the unknown would freak them out. Maybe it was relieving that Aethelstan would come with him.

With that came a pang of quilt, Aethelstan was strong but unfortunately his damaged core didn't allow him to use dangerous magic. Ten years and the cracks were still pretty much engraved.

Dawn was joining too, his eyes had rediated fear and wariness and he was right to feel those things.

Looking at the mission prompt Adrian was sure Dawn wouldn't join them for the full ride.

Brushing away a strand of his longish hair, he muttered.

"They should be here soon."
