Chereads / The Mountain of the Alpha King / Chapter 180 - ...But Why?

Chapter 180 - ...But Why?

Joss and Veltar were taking the flight on Vincent's back rather well - in fact, they were truly enjoying themselves.

Ajax and Jyriah on the other hand were not doing so great. Jyriah was still scarred from being trapped in a net, and Ajax had always hated heights. So while the former were laughing and cheering in delight, the latter were pretty much clasped to one another.

At least the horns on the back of Vincent's long body were easy enough to hold onto, and neither of them minded the overlapping of their hands as both felt that being anchored to another was preferable to flying off into nothingness.

The treetops were beautiful from above, and when looking down onto them gave off a more of a blue-ish green than the warm greens they saw from below. The mountain was stunning, too. With the altitude as high as it was, the snow hadn't melted from the peaks and it made quite the view. It almost looked like someone had painted the ground below them with expert precision.

What freaked out the scared duo was that they could see birds flying at level with them, and everything in their brains screamed that all of this was unnatural and unwanted.

Then, they started to descend, and both Jyriah and Ajax felt a little relief enter their souls as the ground came close and closer to them.

"Alright. Off." Vincent commanded rather coldly (they weren't his people, and he didn't care how he treated them).

Two of the wolves did as instructed and in return, Vincent put down the large vat of green slime they had brought with them.

"Okay, guys - it's game time. You each have a section of the runes I need drawn. Vincent came around with me just before we got you and made notches into the side of the mountain that are /very/ noticeable. He will drop you off at the other rendezvous points." Joss explained and brought out a map.

After he went over the spots, and made sure they were to be dropped off appropriately, he got to work.

Hopefully they could pull this off, but as anyone forming a big plan, the anxiety on if it would be fruitful was agonizing.

Metas wasn't sure what to do since he felt so useless. No one had anything for him to do, but they were all so respectful and gracious.

'No, you've done everything my Alpha' was the typical sentiment - but still - he was itching to do something.

He stalked around a little bit until he found his wife, his best friend, and his sister-in-law all sitting along the bank of the river washing their coats and no doubt gossiping. Surely they'd know where to point him.

"Hello sweetheart," Myranda greeted with a smile and stood up from the water to meet him, but he shook his hands before she even slogged towards him.

"Can I join you?" He asked with a tad bit of sorrow in his words.

"Always - but why do you seem so down?" Lara asked and then splashed water at his direction when he took his shoes off and transformed into his regal wolf form.

"I feel useless..." he confessed.

"What? Why? How?" the three of them asked at the same time.

"It seems like since I did away with Silas I have nothing to do. I've asked and its like I'm burden when I do," Metas answered

"That's just because everyone wants you to relax. You're just feeling uncomfortable because you're actually being treated like a royal. You have others willing to fight for you and help you. Now that you've actually got support, you're lost. I know you're used to doing it all yourself, but you've got to calm down, Mets," Lara answered as though it were so obvious.

"I'll tell you the same thing I tell Joss when he gets like this --- if one person could run the shop, or in this case - the realm, then running businesses and kingdoms mean nothing. It takes all of us to make things happen. You killed the main problem for most of us. Now we just have to finish the job and get rid of that bastard Harbinger," Jess piped up.

"Is not as easy as you make it, you know," Metas mumbled dissatisfied.

"It really, really is. You just need to groove into it is all," Lara offered flippantly.

"I get you, sweetheart. I felt like that a lot with you. It's not easy to sit back sometimes - but as you so often tell me, the tactical things are the most uncomfortable at times, yes?" Myrana comforted him as she paddled towards his figure and nuzzled her way next to him where she used him to stop herself from flowing with the river.

Myranda was mighty, but she was still small. Had it not been for anyone there to help her anchor down, she'd go right into the demonic realm.

"You felt useless?" Metas asked, obviously hurt.

"Well, yeah... You had to save me more than once, you've been running this revolution alone for years, even when I joined you. I have no skills, I have no knowledge, and I have no power," she answered truthfully.

"...You supported me in every single action I did, Mandy.... Why would you feel useless?"

"Well, why do you feel useless, then?" She pointed out and turned her mismatched eyes up to his gold ones.

"Oh....I see now. I do not like this feeling much," Metas lamented.

"Yeah, no one really does buddy. It's just something you'll have to get used to as King - especially since you're going to be a great King, which means so many will want to do so much for you." Lara added.

"I do not like scenario..." he grumbled.

"Growing pains, pal. You can get used to it." His best friend assured him confidently.

"Lara's right. You'll find your own ways to be useful. I know from experience. You're just not used to having others around you helping the same cause you hold dear. It's okay to sit back sometimes - and you need it after last night. Your shoulder still has marks in it. They should have healed by now," his Luna pointed out and nudged her nose against his raw wounds.

"It must have been whatever it was that made him crazy. His eyes were glowing like crazy," Jess surmised out loud.

"Yeah, that was weird..." Lara commented.

"I bet he found something weird and was taking it or whatever. Silas had some odd habits....and his personality sucked. Syranna was too good for him - and I miss her," Myranda sighed and leaned on her husband for comfort.

"He had serious ego problems, that was for sure -- and he was a sensitive little bitch."

The trash talk was rather cathartic now that Silas was gone. Even if some cultures didn't speak ill of the dead no matter how terrible of a soul they possessed - still they kept their mouths shut.

Not the Lycan Kingdom. Here you earned what was said about you after you were dead and gone - and if you were shit in life, you got shit talk in death.

It was becoming a rather nice afternoon for a bit, but things turned darker in the skies, and the faint roll of thunder could be heard coming from a distance. The trees were too tall for them to see the coming storm - but as the cold wind blew the clouds closer, anyone with good senses knew that it would not be a light rain.

"Oh no..." Jess said with worry.

"Oh, that's not good..." Lara added.

"Shit." Myranda and Metas said at the same time.

If Joss wasn't stressed enough as it was, he was about to 'have a cow' at the sight unfolding above them.
