"What are you doing here? Did you hear us arguing from Jyriah's place?" Syrana asked when she finally let go of her little sister. She wiped her eyes and tried to compose herself.
"...No...and don't freak out, okay..." Myranda started and looked at her elder sister with a look of hesitation.
"Oh no, what did you do, Myri?" Syrana asked with a frown.
"Nothing that's actually a crime. I was in the process of running off with Metas when we decided to hide in your house because it was the least likely place for someone to search for us..." she started carefully.
Syrana gasped and put her hands over her mouth in disbelief. When she moved her hands from her lips she had a smile. "You and Metas are running away together? Why don't you just bond and accept him?"
"....Syrana.... Those fugitives Silas is looking for, it's actually Metas and I. Harbinger is planning on making him Alpha King. I know its hard to believe - but the other night he came to my house to kill me. Metas and Joss were both there at the right time to stop him.
"It's not hard to believe..." Syrana started slowly, ready to confess everything.
"Myri, I've only been trying to keep this together for my daughter. I don't know how to explain it, but Silas and I have grown apart somehow. I don't understand it at all. Mates don't grow apart..." her sister paused and then gulped down a mouthful of air.
"I've been trying to hide how badly our relationship is because I didn't want you or Jyriah to worry - or worse - kill Silas. Harbinger would skin you both himself, and I know both of you. You'll do anything for me, like I'd do anything for you both. I just wanted to stay strong for you two just a little longer until I could figure out what to do. It's hard to ask for help when everyone depends on you..." Syrana raised her hands to her face and covered it so that she could muffle her cries.
"You shouldn't have to stay here. Why don't you go back home? Metas has a lot of supporters who will keep you safe at his request. Jyriah is one of them. I'm sure he would help. 'Rana, a lot of young wolves have knelt to him and call him Alpha King. I know I took my time trusting him, but - trust him. Get somewhere safe before Silas gets back. We can go get Jyriah and Joss right now, and they'll walk you and Syri down to the bakery. Let me take care of you for once. You've always shouldered all the responsibility, and yet no one ever supported you. I'm in the position to do so - so let me help you for once, please" Myranda begged and pulled her sister to her shoulder tightly.
"I love you. Let's get you safe, and then Metas and I have plans that will make everything better - for everyone," Myranda felt weird being the one to care for her sister for the first time, but it felt so good to do so. For once she had power to be able to do something about their lot in life, and she was going to use it to help everyone - but first, her sister.
"I wish I had never met Silas. I should have just resigned to being on my own...." Syrana said as she stuttered her breath from being so upset.
"About that... why did you marry Silas anyway?" Myranda had to know if Metas was onto something. Depending on her answer, things may be more sinister than it appeared over the surface.
"I don't know...He's handsome. He was charming at first....and I guess somehow, and I'm not sure how, because they're complete opposites - but somehow he reminds me of Veltar. He smells almost just like him, and he was the only person I felt a spark with at all, so...I just..I don't know, Myri - it's all so confusing. Everything is a blur since Veltar's accident."
"Wow. That's... well.." Myranda wasn't sure how to respond. She didn't want to give her sister false hope, but at the same time...if Silas didn't have Syrana to manipulate, then why would he keep Veltar alive anymore?
...and then a really sinister thought came across her mind that made her crack a wicked smile.
"Hey, Syrana...do you want to repay Silas in kind? I mean, he's strung you along and manipulated you - so why not do the same to him? Especially when there is a possibility to get back what you miss the most..." the younger sister started with dark glee in her eyes.
"You can't bring people back from the dead, Myri - but that's sweet."
"No, I can't - but if they were never dead in the first place....I mean then what?"
"What are you on about? What do you know?" Syrana gave her sister a look of uncertainty and a little bit of excitement.
"Metas thinks that Veltar is alive. He thinks Silas is using his blood to mask his own scent and replace it with your real mate's. If he is indeed a live, and we play Silas long enough - we can find out, and then reunite you two. Without you, he has no motive for anything. He's planning on usurping Metas, and from what he says, no one trusts an Alpha without a Luna. If you make him think he has a Luna, and then pull the rug out from under his feet at the perfect time, then we can not only pay him back with interest, we can destroy everything he holds dear."
"Please tell me you're just making a game of this, and you're seventy again, and I'm one hundred and forty. We're just having a little pretend, right?" Syrana didn't believe her - and the younger sister couldn't blame her at all.
"I'm really, really not. String that jerk along and take back what was stolen from you. I've learned a lot about mates from Metas the past few hours alone. They don't tell us everything for a reason. If Veltar had died - you would have too with how close you were. Remember when you got really sick after he supposedly died?" Myranda asked, in hopes she could convince her sister.
"Yes..."
"He thinks its because of what they did to lock him away - and I think he called it heart sickness? I forgot the name of it, but supposedly - you should be dead if he was dead. Plus, he would need fresh blood. Fresh, Rana" Myranda's smile grew with hope as she watched her sister's face turn with realization and shock.
"Oh Goddess, you can't be serious...How could they pull that off?"
"The upper city wants Silas as Alpha. They're all in on it. Metas wants to make us all even and have access to the same quality of life. They don't want that - and neither does Silas. Just think about it for a bit, and tell Jyriah when you've made up your mind. He'll make sure to get the message to us."
"Are you sure you're okay with me thinking about it? I know how you hate waiting..." Syrana asked.
"Yes. When you're ready - we'll all move forward together and give that piece of shit the treatment he deserves, and when we're done, we'll ensure he feels every moment of pain as we strip his skin off piece by piece. I'll wait patiently for you, I promise - but please just think logically about it, and try to reach out to him from your heart, if you can feel him, then trust that feeling," Myranda replied and nodded.
"It's a lot to take in, Myri. A lot....but before I can even start to chew on this, I need to make sure Syri is okay, and that you and Metas get out of here before Silas returns, because I can't save you if he finds you here."
"Yeah. You weren't supposed to come home, so we were planning on staying for a few hours - but we need to go as soon as we can. Remember to send messages through Jyirah and Joss. They'll make sure to thread them to us....and don't you dare let that fuck-face stop you from discovering the truth, no matter what it is."
