Apparently, Gomez was just testing how strongly I wanted to work and if I wanted to work for the right reasons or the hot boss in his own words. Gomez as the official head of the HR department handles everything about the employees, and after coffee, he had me fill out a few papers containing personal information and other stuff.
He then gave me a brief history of the company, how it started and other branches and how also he was one of Liam's oldest friends as well as how unusual it was for Liam to let a total stranger call him by his first name.
After that, he gave me a brief tour of the company and showed me the different departments and their heads, in case I needed something from them. After the whole tour and detailed orientation, Gomez said I'd be working closely with him so I could take over as Liam's assistant.
When we were done, we took the elevator back to Liam's office, during the ride up Gomez said something.
"Liam has a lot of enemies who might see you as an easy target to either get information from or to make Liam worry or worse, like letting Carter out. Whatever you do, try not to make Liam extremely worried, stressed or angry." I looked at Gomez confused, "Let's just say not all those rumours were false, for your own good."
But before I could ask any questions the door began to open and Gomez skipped out to Liam.
"Mr Richards, I believe we have a keeper," Gomez said acting more formally.
"And I believe you'll be handling her training personally?" Liam asked.
"Of course, only the best for my one and only boss," Gomez said to Liam.
"Take five blondy, I need to talk to the boss," Gomez said to me, I was definitely confused but I remembered Gomez had shown me a recreational room employees could relax.
"Sure," I said walking out of the room.
I was still very confused being around the building even after the tour with Gomez, but I all but managed to stumble across the recreational room that we had passed somewhere on the 7th floor.
I wandered over to the coffee machine I found in the corner of the room and I looked everywhere for where the coffee was.
"Bottom left corner, that's where all the good stuff are hidden." Someone said behind me.
I turned around to see a man in a suit, probably a coworker, since I wasn't here to make friends yet, I just nodded and opened the drawer like he said picking out one of the instant coffees.
"I'm Asher, Asher Tomkins, assistant manager of marketing and communications for Fovx Industries." He introduced himself.
"Cyra Hudson, new secretary to Mr Richards." I introduced myself back unwillingly.
"Oh, so you're the new girl everyone keeps talking about. I'd expected more dept, you know someone bigger. No offence though." Asher said obviously attacking my person.
I smiled numbly as I didn't want to cause any trouble on my first day of work. I didn't know the people here and I surely didn't want to know them, all that mattered was keeping my job till the next week.
"Okay, it was nice meeting you Fiesa. Catch you around?" He said as he walked away.
Bastard, at least he could have gotten my name right, I picked up my cup of coffee and went back to my desk upstairs, when the elevator door opened, I saw that both Gomez and Liam were gone, I wasn't in the mood to ask where they had gone so I sat down quietly, tapping away on my system.
I was arranging some files piled up by my desk, probably by that little demon called Gomez when the office line began to ring. I picked immediately...
"Mr Richards office, Cyra Hudson here. How may I be of assistance." I said the line exactly as Gomez told me to.
"Somebody's a fast learner," Gomez said on the other side of the phone.
"Gomez?"
"That's sir to you. And I have work to do at HR so you'll be accompanying Mr Richards to his 1:15 lunch meeting. Come to my office to get the necessary documents. Now!" Gomez said and the line went dead.
The audacity of that man, I shook my head, picked up my purse and went down to his office on the 5th floor of the building, located his glass office and knocked when I was in front of it, he waved his hand ferociously telling me to get in.
"I'll give you a brief rundown of who we're working with and how you absolutely cannot fuck this up, or else you can say bye bye to your little job with Fovx Industries," Gomez said with a smile.
Was this bitch really threatening me right now, I glared at him momentarily as he looked through his files for the one he was looking for. So disorganised, I scoffed.
"You'll be having the privilege of working with Mr Spenzer Matthew of OVA Constructions. He's the CEO of one of the major construction companies in Boston and he's visiting to have a lunch meeting to finalise a done deal with Liam but this lunch could make or break this arrangement." Gomez explained.
"I must warn you Mr Matthew is a very cunning man and he's well aware of Mr Richards's anger problem, so your job is to memorise all the details of this project and make sure Mr Richards is in the clear. Can you do that?" Gomez asked passing the files to me.
I went through the file and immediately spotted some lop holes in a clause I happen to just stumble on. I looked at Gomez, then the watch on my wrist, and then I smiled.
"I'll do my very best," I said.
"Sweetheart, your best is never enough. You have exactly 1 hour to meet Mr Richards in front of the company to get there on time, no delays, no mistakes. You may leave." Gomez finished.
"Thank you," I said to Gomez taking my leave immediately after.
I rushed back to my office, picked up my phone and set a timer of 40 minutes, I had to go through this contract as much as I could before lunch.
I started reading through and there wasn't only one but many britches in this contract, I wondered if Liam knew anything about this. He was paying way too much for just a construction contract.
My timer went up, I took an extra 10 minutes to fax the papers for proper investigations before I calmly placed the papers properly in their file, picked up my things, made a quick phone call and made my way to the front of the main building.
The same black Mercedes of yesterday parked in front of me right on time and the door swung open and I got in and closed the door. I guess I have Benson to thank for learning to work with minimal instructions.
Liam was already sitting in the car, I said a short greeting to Walter who tipped his hat at me and off we went. Liam said nothing throughout the whole drive to the restaurant till we got there. He tucked his phone in his jacket and came down from the car.
Before I could turn around the door beside me opened and it wasn't Walter. Liam extended his arm and honestly I was surprised and unsure.
"Miss Cyra, if you'd please?" Liam said gently snapping me out of my trance.
I took his hand and came out of the car, he proceeded to walk us towards the receptionist positioned outside of the restaurant and told him of our reservation, as soon as we entered the establishment Liam leaned a bit closer to me.
"Even as a secretary, a woman should always be treated like one. Next time please don't hesitate." Liam said smiling.
When he spoke into my ear, I felt a chill down my spine, his voice was smooth yet so cold like it was liaised with a threat, the last part was probably my imagination but still. I nodded quietly as the waiter led us to our table.
There was a man already seated at the table the waiter directed us to, he sat there with his long suit and top hat, which were usually put away at the front door.
"I see you're early again Mr Matthew." Liam greeted.
"Ahh, if it isn't one of the world's youngest shining stars, Mr Richards. Oh and I see you brought a fine young lady as well." Mr Matthew said extending a hand of greeting as well as acknowledging my presence.
"This is Cyra Hudson, my new secretary." Liam introduced me.
"It's a pleasure, Mr Matthew," I said politely.
"No no, the pleasure is all mine, to be in the presence of such a beauty. How about you come work for me, I could take you around the world and back." Mr Matthew winked at me.
I smiled shyly while cussing on the inside but it was the look in Liam's eyes that truly scared me.
"Shall- Shall we begin the meeting," I said tugging on Liam's arm slightly.
For a brief moment, Liam looked into my eyes and I could swear that I saw them change from brown to black, not that there was much of a difference though.
"Liam?" I whispered and his eyes reverted, weird.
Liam gave me a small smile and a pat on the arm as he followed me to our seats. This was certainly going to be a very long afternoon.
"Well then, shall we order?" Mr Matthew purposed smiling.
