Amelia's body stiffened and she felt a pang of heartache. She could imagine how a little boy could have folded so many lucky stars under the scrutiny of others and how long it must have taken. And after making wishes that didn't come true, she could only imagine the disappointment he must have felt. Amelia didn't want to continue reading in front of Tyler Davis. She didn't want to bring up unhappy memories, so she carefully closed the lid.
She collected herself and smiled brightly, "Tyler Davis, since you gave me your past, I'll give you my future. Interested?"
Tyler Davis was taken aback, and he slightly clenched his fists. His deep eyes seemed to have traversed thousands of years, but there was only Amelia.
"Yes!" Tyler Davis felt that even though his lucky stars didn't bring him his wish, they still brought him luck by allowing him to meet her.
The two of them leaned in closer and closer. Amelia wasn't shy and she closed her eyes and kissed Tyler Davis on the lips.
Well, Amelia had lived two lifetimes, but she was still innocent. She thought a light kiss was just a smooch.
"Plunk!" Grandpa stumbled out of the flower bed.
"Uh, heh... how coincidental. Carry on, carry on." Grandpa said awkwardly.
"..." Amelia didn't expect the cantankerous old man to be like this.
Amelia and Tyler Davis were intimate, and despite being caught by Grandpa, they weren't embarrassed. Instead, they found the petals on his head amusing.
Tyler Davis, however, looked dark and ordered Amelia to stay here and wait for him. He had decided to have a good talk with Grandpa.
So Amelia sat alone under the big locust tree, opened the box, and continued reading.
She carefully examined each item, each representing Tyler Davis's past. There was also a diary, and Amelia was curious. Did it contain Tyler Davis's thoughts over the years?
The first page of the diary read: "March 1st, 2018. Mom and dad died. I survived!"
Amelia wasn't an emotional person, but those few words made her eyes turn red. She continued reading, and inside was Tyler Davis's account of his sorrow, grief, and helplessness.
Loneliness, the entire diary is filled with loneliness, without any need for other friends or companions, just like her, Amelia, who is also lonely.
He said luckily he still had his grandfather, who hadn't abandoned him like the rest of the world.
Amelia pinched herself hard, wondering why she hadn't been reborn earlier, woken up earlier, and treated him better!
She dared not continue reading, afraid that Tyler Davis would come back and see her crying. She flipped to the last page directly.
The last entry in the diary read, "The water that day was really cold, like a huge monster, taking away my parents. The pressure in the water made me suffocate and almost faint. In a daze, I saw her, a very small child, beautiful like a little angel, blinking her big eyes, and swimming in the water like a fish. She struggled to push me out of the water. She saved me!"
As Amelia read the last entry, she could almost imagine the scene at the time, and the image was so real that it surprised her. How could such a small child have saved Tyler Davis in the icy seawater?
Amelia frowned slightly and shook the picture from her mind.
After waiting for a while, Tyler Davis finally returned, apparently having convinced his grandfather.
Seeing that Amelia was in a bad mood, Tyler Davis whispered, "Are you tired?"
"Yeah, I want to rest for a bit." Amelia lowered her eyes slightly, not wanting Tyler Davis to see her red eyes, afraid he would feel sorry for her.
Tyler Davis turned his back to Amelia and squatted down. "Come up."
Amelia, with reddened eyes, lay on Tyler Davis's back and hugged his neck. His broad and sturdy shoulders made her feel extremely safe. This person, who had grown up so hard, couldn't bear to see her suffer or tired.
Tyler Davis brought Amelia back to his room. Looking at the place where Tyler Davis had lived as a child, Amelia also became emotional.
It was evident that even though Tyler Davis hadn't lived here in these years, the room was still well-maintained, with a similar style to Grace Manor, but with a touch of childishness.
But there weren't too many signs of Tyler Davis's life here. Compared to here, Grace Manor was more like Tyler Davis's home, full of traces of his life.
Amelia carefully cleaned the iron box she had dug up, putting everything inside neatly.
"Missy, Missy..." The old man knocked on the door.
Amelia went up to open the door and raised her eyebrows at the old man.
She had been thinking about leaving a good impression on the old man before she came, but she didn't expect him to be so easily won over.
"Quick, come on, come on, someone has finally come to keep me company. Let's play a few rounds." The old man beckoned enthusiastically to Amelia, like the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood tempting her.
"What do we play?" Amelia asked curiously.
She wondered if the old man still played games. She didn't know how to play any games.
"Mahjong, do you know how to play mahjong?"
Under the old man's expectant gaze, Amelia shook her head to indicate that she didn't.
Unexpectedly, the old man was still in good spirits and not discouraged. He said, "It's okay, I'll teach you!" Knowing Amelia's character, she naturally didn't want to learn Mahjong, but seeing this enthusiastic old man, she couldn't help feeling a sense of obligation and couldn't refuse.
The old man and Amelia took their seats, and then he called out to the butlers who were preparing tea on the other side, "Adams, Lee, come over and take a corner." Obviously, the two of them looked nervous and quickly came over, afraid that the old man would suddenly lose his temper.
Tyler Davis ended up sitting in one of the positions and said, "I'll play." The old man immediately laughed, "You kid, aren't you the most annoyed with playing Mahjong? You're afraid I'll bully your sweetheart!" Tyler Davis just sat there with a dark face and didn't say anything.
Amelia wondered what the term "sweetheart" meant. Why did it sound so funny when said in public? With just one more player, Adams, they had a full game, and the old man eagerly began teaching Amelia how to play Mahjong.
Five minutes later, he asked, "Do you understand?" and Amelia replied with an "Mm-hmm." The old man only explained it once and looked provokingly at Tyler Davis, intentionally trying to mess with Amelia. However, Tyler Davis still had that inscrutable look on his face.
It wasn't until half an hour later that the old man finally understood why Tyler Davis had that mysterious look on his face. "Ah! I lost again. Tell me the truth, did you learn how to play just to make fun of this old man?" the old man said, frustrated.
"No, I just have a good memory," Amelia replied calmly.
Tyler Davis added, "She has a photographic memory."
