Amelia's words left Tyler Davis stunned. The old man's face turned serious as he gazed at Amelia without revealing any emotions. Undeterred, Amelia remained proud and allowed the old man to scrutinize her.
"Are you so sure of this? Does this boy really like you?" the old man asked with a sharp tongue.
Amelia nodded honestly, "Yes, he likes me."
If Tyler Davis' feelings for her, past or present, couldn't be considered liking, then what else in this world could be?
The old man hadn't expected someone to speak so boldly, and suddenly he understood that this girl was indeed his grandson's creation. Even when Amelia thought the old man would explode with anger, he burst out laughing heartily.
"Good, I agree to your relationship. I don't care about your background or education, my only requirement is that you treat him with sincerity. This child has been through a lot of suffering these years, so don't hurt him," the old man's voice softened. Suddenly, he lost his imposing presence and became a friendly grandpa. It seemed that he had aged several years in an instant.
It wasn't that Amelia was particularly likable, but the old man knew his grandson too well. Since the accident that claimed the lives of Tyler Davis' parents when he was a child, he had become withdrawn and depressed. The old man had thought that he would be like that for the rest of his life and as a grandfather, he was helpless and heartbroken.
A few years ago, when he heard that Tyler Davis had taken in a woman at Grace Manor, the old man didn't pay much attention. But he never expected that this relationship would last so long. He was truly invested in this!
Of course, the old man was also aware of the things Amelia had done that caused trouble in recent years. He had originally thought that if things were really that bad, he would have to teach this woman a lesson for Tyler Davis' sake. However, now that they had met, it didn't seem as bad as the rumors suggested. It was to his liking!
As Amelia listened to the old man's words, her pupils slightly dilated, not out of fear, but because they were identical to what was said in her past life. Unfortunately, she couldn't understand them back then. "Don't hurt him." Yes, she wouldn't hurt him anymore. She wanted to save him and let him live a long, healthy life!
Tyler Davis, seeing Amelia's daze, held her hand and said, "My feelings for her are my own business, and how she treats me has nothing to do with you."
Amelia felt a pang in her heart. It was true that in her past life, she had never been kind to Tyler Davis, even until her death. Yet, Tyler Davis still loved her deeply and was willing to die for her. Luckily, there was reincarnation.
Realizing this, Amelia furrowed her brows and said, "What are you talking about? How can it have nothing to do with me? It's a big deal!"
Tyler Davis helplessly replied, "Okay, it does concern you..."
The shrewd old man watching the scene naturally understood his grandson's attitude and didn't ask any further.
Amelia sighed. They said the old man had a bad temper, yet he had accepted her so easily and even told her to come find him if she needed help. If anyone dared to bully her, the Davis family would have her back. She knew that the old man did it all because Tyler Davis loved her. This made Amelia feel that familial love was truly a wonderful emotion.
She didn't understand familial love, after all, her parents and even her siblings wanted her dead.
The atmosphere was good, and the family was enjoying themselves. Even the servants were surprised that the old man hadn't lost his temper for two whole hours.
After lunch, Amelia and Tyler Davis were ready to leave. The old man had a dark expression and uncomfortably asked them to stay and play for a few more days on the estate.
Amelia thought that perhaps the old man was lonely living alone in such a big estate, so she agreed to stay for two more days. After all, she had a two-day holiday, and she could go straight to school tomorrow afternoon.
This was where Tyler Davis grew up, and there were many traces of his life here. In her past life, when the old man brought her here, she was only cold and crazy. She didn't pay attention to these things, but now she wanted to take a look.
"Well, don't mind me. I'm going to take a nap. Tyler Davis, take the girl around!" The old man's eyes were bright and he was full of energy, not at all like someone who was tired and wanted to take a nap.
Tyler Davis nodded and led Amelia out onto the estate's path. There was a faint fragrance of flowers mixed with the scent of grass in the air, and it was peaceful and serene, as if forgetting everything and just walking like this until they grew old.
It turned out that the most romantic thing she could think of was really just growing old slowly with him.
"Tell me about the interesting things you did when you were a child," Amelia suddenly said. She didn't have a childhood; her childhood was a closed dark room until she met Tyler Davis.
She suddenly realized that she didn't really know Tyler Davis's life. It was as if when she saw Tyler Davis, he was already standing tall like a mountain. But everyone has a childhood and a past, not everyone is as miserable as she was.
"There's nothing interesting, just going to school..." Tyler Davis's calm voice slowly came.
Amelia seemed to see a little child, shrouded in the sadness of losing parents, becoming increasingly silent, learning like an emotionless machine.
"Bang!" A pot of brightly blooming peonies was kicked over, interrupting Tyler Davis's conversation.
The old man appeared with a strange expression on his face, quickly leaving. "Uh...you guys talk, you guys talk, I'm just passing by!"
"..."
What about taking a nap as promised?
Tyler Davis paid little attention to the old man and continued to lead Amelia. They walked for a long time until they reached an old locust tree, where he had Amelia sit on a bench under the tree. His usually calm face showed a hint of redness as he said, "I have something to give you."
He then used a small shovel to dig under the old locust tree. Amelia widened her eyes curiously, wondering if there was some kind of treasure buried under the tree.
Soon, Tyler Davis found what he was looking for: an iron box. It had been buried in the soil for a long time, and the pattern on the surface was so worn out that it was barely recognizable. Tyler Davis brought the iron box to Amelia and placed it on the bench. He opened the worn-out lid.
Amelia leaned in curiously, wanting to see what was inside.
She saw many small things inside the box, such as a yellowed paper, a pretty stone, a bottle of colorful lucky stars, and many others.
"This is everything from my past, and I'm giving it to you," Tyler Davis said as he handed the box to Amelia.
He was a bit nervous, wondering if his Amelia, who had a cleanliness obsession, would accept this dirty, old box.
But he saw Amelia receive it solemnly.
She gently touched the old items inside the box and picked up the glass jar filled with lucky stars, which was the most eye-catching item in the box.
"Did you also fold lucky stars when you were a child?" Amelia lifted the glass jar up to the sunlight, blinking with curiosity.
"When I was a child, someone told me that folding 999 lucky stars would bring good luck, and my wishes would come true," Tyler Davis said calmly.
He never expected that Amelia would find it surprising that he believed in such things when he was a child.
It was only then that Amelia saw a sentence written at the bottom of the transparent glass jar: "I hope that my parents can come back."
