Sam was not a member of the group that followed Zephyr to Eagle's Lane. The king selected the most competent individuals, while Sam was left to guard the castle until the king arrived.
He was instructed to keep a watchful eye on the woman with green eyes in case she decided to sneak out of the palace, join them on the battlefield, or cause any mischief.
Since he started his duties this morning, he hadn't caught a glimpse of her. She was usually with Isabel or Helen, or possibly in the chamber. He tried to spy, but he was still unable to locate her. Even Isabel was out of sight and he was getting worried.
Despite passing through the fifth corridor today, he hadn't aimed his gaze at any of the women. As he searched for them, he continued his inspection of the castle to see if there was anything unusual that required attention, but there wasn't.
