When Doctor Lin heard what Xua Yue Ying said to her, she immediately turned around in her chair wanting to stop Xua Yue Ying and ask what she meant by this but then she stopped herself. Everything was already so clear in front of her and Xua Yue Ying had told her almost everything that her husband had been hiding from her, so what was there to even ask now?
Thus, she swallowed the words down which she wanted to say and turned to look in the front.
Doctor Lin curled her lips in a mocking smile when she remembered how foolish she was in the past, when she married Ma Yao, she was only twenty years old and because her husband's family was not as good as hers, her parents gave her a lot of dowry to make sure that they will live a happy life.
Even though her parents did not like Ma Yao, they were still willing to support her, back then when she told her mother that she wanted to marry Ma Yao, her mother frowned at her and said in a grave voice,
' That man has a crooked nose and his eyes are small and dodgy like rats, he is not a good man. You are going to regret it if you marry him.' Her mother was cooking in the kitchen but she still paused when she heard her shocking words.
' But Ma, he is a good man! How can you believe in superstitious stuff at this age and time? You are letting that master confuse you with his foolish talk, there is no way, Yao is going to let me down!' She replied to her mother who smacked her with a lukewarm spatula with just the right amount of strength.
' What do you know! That master is a very skilled man! He said that if you marry that man, he will definitely not treat you well listen to me, Qing He, drop the idea of marrying him and let mother look for a match for you.'
However, she being the fool she was, went against her mother and told her that she will definitely marry Ma Yao and that if her mother did not agree then she will remain unmarried for the rest of her life.
In the end, under her stubbornness, her parents agreed and they even gave her a hefty dowry which she used as a start-up fund for Ma Yao's company.
As Doctor Lin wrenched herself out of the memories, she realised that her eyes were filled with tears as those tears dropped on the back of her hand with a plop plip sound.
" Such a fool…I was such a fool," she sobbed as she lowered her head and cried, she should have suspected something when she saw that her mother-in-law was unhappy with her after she was done giving birth to her daughter. It was clear that the Ma family favoured sons over daughters but it was just her luck that she hurt herself while she was giving birth and could no longer get pregnant.
When she found out that she hurt herself she wanted to seek treatment using the shares that she owned but Ma Yao told her that he did not mind having a daughter alone. That he cared about her more than having a son —— Doctor Lin still remembers how touched she was when she heard Ma Yao say those things, she even proudly called her mother and told her what Ma Yao said to her wanting to prove her wrong.
But now that she knew that Ma Yao was raising a mistress and an illegitimate son in the countryside, she realised that the reason why he spoke those words was not that he cared for her. The thing which he cared about was her shares which he had to hand her under the coercion of her father who went to their house every day telling Ma Yao that since she was the one who came up with the start-up fund, it wasn't wrong of her to have at least sixty per cent shares.
Back then under the coaxing of her mother-in-law, she thought that her father was ruining her married life and even blamed him for it but despite being blamed again and again, her father did not give up and continued to press Ma Yao, who in the end gave those shares to her and after those shares were signed, the contract was taken away by her father who told her strictly that if she dared to sign the share transfer contract without his knowledge, he will off himself by jumping on the tracks.
Doctor Lin was upset but she did not go against her father and now that she knew the truth, she realised that her parents saw Ma Yao's real colour much earlier than she did!
" Ma Yao! You bastard!" Doctor Lin no longer wanted to cry because of a bastard which was why she wiped her tears and then fished out the cell phone which she was carrying with her and then called her mother. " Hello? Yes, it is me. Ma, can you do me a favour? No, it is not like that…just …just ask dad to go and pick Little Qingluo from my in-law's house and have her stay with you two from now on and …" she bit her lips as she raised her head and looked to her left where she saw a happy family of three.
The mother and father were holding the hands of their daughter causing her to dangle an inch above the pavement while the little girl laughed. The sight was peaceful and soothing to her eyes as she drew in a breath and heaved a heavy sigh before saying the words which she wanted to say the most but could not.
" And tell dad that I said …that I am sorry… I am so sorry, Ma."
For two seconds there was no sound from the other side of the phone and Doctor Lin thought that her mother did not hear her but then after a short pause she heard her mother's sweet voice as she said,
