Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

The day had gone by quickly once I woke, I felt like I woke up from a dream. Sadly it wasn't one, I looked at my weapons, and at my arms. Even if this body is fit, I'm not strong enough to survive in this world. It's far too dangerous, and I have to hide when I'm alone, all while avoiding the elites. Even with exceptions like that one grunt who is unique to say the least, but I have no doubt about it's strength.

The AI in this world is truly wonderful, I've taken to calling her Sylvie. Even as I slept, she's landed the pelican in a spot hidden on the island, we're waiting for word on when to follow into the next level, but I'm left in the dark on how she would get word. The pelican has a damaged communicator, and I'm expected to follow after they supposedly cleared the covenant from the area, but I know full well that's not how it goes.

Still, I wonder what this pelican is powered by, something about a reactor, but I have no knowledge of engineering, and I wasn't one to study the full details from the franchise. just the storyline is enough for me to enjoy, bit of a pity that I was not ocd about it. All I can do is wait.

...

The Masterchief had long ago activated the control panel, and has long begun his killing spree over the covenant at the control center.

Demon they called him, grunts fled screaming before they were killed, the Marines on the other hand followed behind. They made use of covenant weapons to great effect, but still casualties piled on. Worse yet, the covenant have taken great lengths to stop them, and maybe due to the actions of the Marines, they have taken greater action in using their grenades before it could be used against them. This concerned Cortana, the Covenant have begun to adapt to them as well, using tactics that the Marines use, a ripple of change that they have not used, an abnormality as they normally looked down on them as inferior, they need to hurry.

...

Far away from the battles, a group of covenant have been trying hard to listen in on human communications. Though not with great success, they have caught on to some communications, notably one unit. They have kept their communications on, and the security has been relatively lax. Normally it would be considered a trap, a collection of false data to lead them into an ambush, but the details of their conversation have alarmed them. They spoke of parasites that they would find, that would consume everyone on the holy land, and that they had already released them.

Such information sounded ludicrous, but the fact they kept talking about it with such conviction alarmed them. Are the humans trying to warn them? They need to warn the ship master before it's too late. The Elite who was in charged immediately tried to contact his leader, but he wasn't responding. Fearful of what this could mean, he boarded a drop ship, and left their outpost. trying to contact anyone he could before it was too late.

...

On one of the swamp locations on the ring, the location of where the flood first appeared, the covenant had departed from their drop ships, they dug out part of the location, and found what seemed to be an entrance. They were happy, they disliked their location, but they found it, who knows what could be inside, and they were eager to get it. just like in the game, they had gone in.

Far away from them, a pelican flies as fast as it can to intercept them, but they were already too late, though they had the information, there were different locations that they secured that hadn't come into contact with the covenant, even more so as they did what they could to seal the entrances further to prevent an outbreak.

The covenant none the wiser search around hoping to find what they need, they have a hard time opening the doors as though someone was keeping something sealed. They knew nothing of what was to happen, and as they opened the last door, they could smell it.

A foul stench came over them, different from the stench outside. It was a strong pungent smell of rot, ancient, as the smell came from the very walls. Feeling uneasy, they felt like they shouldn't have been there. All of their instincts screamed at them to leave, but they persevered, as the grunts behind shivered in fear.

Feeling as if someone's gaze was on him, one of the elites turned to stare at one of the cell doors in the room. He had his weapon ready, as he felt that gaze, it made him fearful. The leader of the group was about to tell him to check it out, when he received a notification.

He received the information from one of the other teams, the humans were trying to warn them, that they needed to get out before they were consumed. The leader realized why they felt uneasy, he roared for them to retreat as the cell door burst open. So many little flood parasites came out as they rained plasma fire upon them. A grunt started screaming as they got on him, he tried to run to them for help, but the leader shot the grunt dead.

Seeing this, the other grunts fled out the door with the jackals, screaming in human language to run away. More, and more cell doors burst open as they retreated, and as they left the room, the covenant resealed the door. They could hear the squirming, as the flood invaded it's body. They felt goosebumps as the grunt body twitched around, it's hand split open, while veins squirmed around in the air. Blood stained the ground where it was, as these things did what it wanted.

The leader retreated with his group, they sealed every door they could, but they could still hear the squirming, he contacted the other team, and told them their situation. They needed reinforcements, they needed to get out, but as he told them the situation, He heard screams, and plasma fire behind him.
