"What are you doing? Turn the car around now. We are going to the airport." I was getting ready to bring the car to rest forcefully. Lisa had passed out and was in the backseat now. Had Marc really joined Tobias? I didn't want to fight him but it didn't look like I had much choice, as he continued to drive into the city instead of the airport.
"Veronica. I told you, The Five are on their way to the airport."
"What makes you think I am scared of them?" I was beginning to get restless now. "Remember who are you speaking with." I didn't care if The Five or Fifty showed up. I had to get my baby out of here. I clentched my palm into a fist and threw a punch at Marc. His head hit the driver's seat window and he pressed on the breaks.
He turned to face me immediately. "Veronica."
I quickly got out of the car and opened the door to get Lisa. "Listen," he tried to speak, still recovering from my blow to him a few seconds ago. "Think for a second. Do you really want her at the airport? Have you not realised anything about his connections? He will have countless people sent there. What if he came alone. Are you going to fight them all while keeping Lisa safe? How many years has it been since you had to face one of us" I was barely listening to him now. I picked Lisa up and Marc stepped out of the car, walking towards us with strong, quick steps.
"Get out of my way now if you don't want me to kill you. You are their son. I don't want to hurt you." If he wasn't my best friend's son, he'd be dead by now. I couldn't stand anyone trying to hurt my daughter. He was part of Tobias's pack now. No matter how many years it had been since I faced his kind, I could still take him down. And then it occured to me, Marc was different from when I had seen him last. Tonight, he seemed more powerful. I could almost sense his power growing as he inched closer to me holding Lisa, getting ready to leave.
"They are dead." His words took me by surprise.
"Both of them?" I could't hide the surprise in my voice. Why hadn't I heard of this? This couldn't be. Such a strong couple dead? Was it an accident? It had to be. There was no way, those two could be taken down together. "Yes," he answered, "Tobias killed my parents."
I know he was speaking the truth. The loss of my friends was a shock to me but this wasn't the time to mourn. This was the time to act, to protect Lisa. I couldn't lose anymore time.
"Then why did you…"
"For Tia." He answered.
"Where is she?" I inquired.
"In the basement. That's where I was going to take you both."
I understood what was happening now. After killing his parent's Marc only had his sister to live for. When an alpha decides to take a life, the pack members have nothing more than a agreeing nod to give. But I was sure my friends wouldn't have gone down without a fight. Why had Tobias left Tia alive?
Marc sensed my question. "He wanted me to marry Erica. She thinks she is my mate. By the time, I reached home my parent's were already on the floor, passed to the next realm. Tia was in a corner scared. I could either say yes to the marriage or have her join my parents too. I wanted to kill Tobias, but I knew I'd lose Tia if I dared to go against him. I am not stronger than me parents. How could I in my right mind, take Tobias on?"
He was wrong though. He seemed powerful to me tonight. Has he recently grown stronger? He filled me in as quickly as he could. But listening to him made me sure that being with him would put not just Lisa but Tia at risk too. If it were me, I would have burned the city down but with Lisa with me and now knowing, Tia is in the basement, I couldn't act in frustration. 'She thinks she's my mate.' His words rang in my ears.
"Erica isn't your mate. I thought with the marriage that she was. I am sorry for your loss. You parents and I were very close."
"Yes. I remember. You have to let me help you. It's important, please."
"Because it's for my mate." He said quickly. "What? Who?" I asked knowing what he would say next. My chest shrank and my stomach turned. I knew what he was going to say next. I had seen that look once before when I was young. It was when Tobias had confessed his feelings to me. I wished for Marc to not have said the next words, but it was late for my wishing.
"Lisa. She's the one. I can't let her be hurt." He said.
