Asahi Miwatoshi was a policeman. He was a respected officer who had accomplished a lot despite his young age. The 29 year old was also one of the top detectives of their department. Yet, five unexplained massacres of local criminal groups had happened right under their nose and they were stumped.
The first three had happened within the last month and the last two just this week. They had no leads except for the perpetrator being a teenager with heterochromatic eyes, wearing a hoodie, as well as the testament of his father, Asahi Tomura.
The first group killed had been the small-time gangsters going by the name "Sanic bros", (a cringy name,he knew.) They were found dead on the rooftop of their local store when the owner went up to see who was making so much noise. She stated that in the middle of the corpses was a hooded boy.
The second group was a yakuza called Momotsuki. They, like the third group Wildflower, had turned on each other with a single word from the same boy.
The fourth was a group of dealers without a name. They jumped off of a 10 story building, seemingly a suicide. Their suspect was seen going to the roof with the group by the camera.
The last and most recent victims were members of a gang called Orange. The murder had happened this morning, approximately at 5:30 AM. Witnesses said that they had heard screaming from the store before they heard it cut off.
Concerned, the couple had gone to check it out, only to be met with a sight of a blood -covered teen smiling at them. They claimed the boy had disappeared before they could even move. After the 4th group, the police department had reported it to the higher ups, who in turn was sending in a specialist to help the case.
A specialist who was coming today and should already be waiting for them at the crime scene. Officer Asahi was hopeful for the first time since he received the case. With the help of this specialist, they would be solving and catching the culprit of the mass murder. That, Miwatoshi promised himself.
The brunette man straightened his uniform once more before he left the station. He walked down the street, towards the apartment complex of west Shinjuku. The time on his wrist read 07:21.
'Shit! I'm late!!' The young officer thought.
Asahi Miwatoshi broke into a sprint, passing by people and dodging over items to try and get to the scene in time. He was going so fast that the brunette felt the air get knocked out of his lungs when he fell after bumping into someone who suddenly ran out of the alley beside them.
"I'M SORRY!!!"
The officer heard the person he knocked into yell. Miwatoshi winced, he looked up to return the apology, thinking 'Were they made of bricks or somethi-' .
He paused.
In front of Miwatoshi stood a blond teen with the brightest eyes the Japanese man had ever seen. The kid didn't even look winded even though they had collided rather badly.
He would have pegged the kid as a foreigner if it wasn't for his proper japanese.
"N-no, I am sorry too."
The brunette officer mumbled, staring at the teen in wonder. He saw the strange boy nod, who then panicked after he checked his phone. The blond hurried away from Miwatoshi yelling.
"LATE! LATE!!"
Which reminded him of his own business. He checked his watch again then shot off after the boy. The time read 07:45, he had only 15 minutes left before the man was needed at the scene.
In the end, it only took him 13 minutes before he arrived at the crime scene, huffing and puffing for air. As a policeman Miwatoshi was fit as one can be but it was still rather hard for him to run 1.5km under 15 minutes.
The brunette man gulped in air greedily then turned towards Kunichi who glared at him with a poleaxed expression. Miwatoshi offered him a grin then watched amusedly as his work partner's expression became even more poleaxed than he thought possible.
"You're late Officer Asahi."
"No, I am exactly on time, actually. So Officer Kunichi, where is the specialist sent by the government?"
"In the backroom. She bought some people. God, Miwatoshi, I don't even know how this so-called specialist is gonna help us solve this case." Kunichi grumbled, letting out a tired sight. Miwatoshi hummed, his curiosity peaked.
"Did something happen, Kunichi?"
"Agh, just go and see for yourself! And be on time next time!!"
The round man almost literally kicked the brunette towards the backroom where the specialist was in. Muttering about 'Crazy partner' s and 'not being late' s , Asahi Miwatoshi entered the backroom.
When he got into the room, he had expected many things. Just not-
"Ah! The mister I bumped into earlier!!"
….
When Tsujimura Rikuo went to sleep the previous night, he was in high spirits. Their Teacher had promised to take him and Shuuji out on a mission if he managed to learn basic coating before the lesson ended and he had.
But then that excitement, along with the good mood flew out of the window when he was woken five past six in the morning. Grumpily the blond had gotten up along with the impassive looking ravenette.
Their teacher drove them to some cafe to get breakfast then drove off after giving them the address and telling them to be there by 08:00 AM. Sometimes, he wondered if Irina just liked torturing them.
It had been 06:30 AM when they were dropped off. They had breakfast for around 20 minutes then both boys were running towards the location given. They were 4km away from the crime scene after all.
On the way, they received a text from Irina, explaining the details of the mission that Shuuji read out loud while they ran. It was maybe around 07:50 when Rikuo bumped into someone hard enough to knock them off their feet.
The blond boy had apologized as fast as he could then ran off after the ravenette who left Rikuo behind. Which was mean because wasn't he supposed to wait for him?? They were teammates after all.
As soon as he arrived at the gruesome scene of death, Irina pulled him into the background without letting him see too much. She, along with Shuuji proceeded to comfort the shocked teen. Rikuo was grateful to them for that. He wasn't ready to see a dead body just yet.
Subsequently, the door to the backroom entered and the man the blonde had bumped into came inside. He was so surprised by his appearance that Rikuo just blurted out.
"Ah, The mister I bumped into earlier!"
The man's head snapped towards him so fast the teen wondered if he got a whiplash for a moment. Rikuo waited patiently as the man looked at him and Shuuji over.
"Kids shouldn't be he-" he started only to be interrupted by Irina.
"They are my pupils." The man looked at their teacher.
"I- Pardon?"
"I said that they are my pupils. It's a pleasure to meet you, officer. I am Irina Rostavich, the specialist sent by the government."
The man gave their teacher a weird look. It was totally understable because Irina had once again forgone professionalism over comfort. The short brown haired woman was wearing crocs along with male summer shorts and white elbow sleeved croft. The officer introduced himself to the trio hesitantly.
"I am Asahi Miwatoshi, Ms.Rostavich." Irina nodded in approval before she got to the business.
"Officer Asahi, what can you tell me about the case so far?"
Asahi Miwatoshi sighed.
"The crimes started approximately a month ago, on the 12th of April, 20XX. I am sure you read the files of the victims."
"I did. It seems like a work of some self entitled hero."
"That is what we assumed so far but the 4th group of victims disapproved of that. We found several innocent civilians among the dead group." Officer Asahi explained to them.
"And what of the witnesses? Do we have a suspect?" Shuuji asked from beside Rikuo, who opted to watch the proceedings. Miwatoshi shook his head.
"We have a suspect. The witnesses claimed that the killer had heterochromatic silver and lilac eyes, wearing a hoodie. As for their statements, they are all typical for murder witnesses but-" here the officer paused.
"But?" Irina pushed.
"But there is a very strange part they all insist on. And I may sound crazy saying this."
"Go on."
The tall man took a deep breath.
"They all claimed that the boy said something to the victims before they killed themselves or each other."
Instantly, Rikuo was on alert. He could also see the subtle way Shuuji and their teacher tensed up. The ability to make anyone do their bidding with a word. The ability that sounded far too familiar for someone as new to the Midnight World as Rikuo was.
'Absolute authority.' He thought.
"And, I don't think they are lying Ms. Something is happening, something out of this world and I don't know if we'd be able to stop whoever is committing these murders."
Officer Asahi Miwatoshi admitted, pushing his hair back tiredly. Yet, unlike the tired man, Rikuo felt smug pride swell up inside him. Beside the blond, Shuuji was smirking.
And in front of the duo, Irina stood, with the most shit eating grin on her face Rikuo had ever seen.
"Don't worry, officer. Dealing with the supernatural is our speciality." Pulling out her badge the horribly dressed woman grinned.
"Agent Higanbana, at your service."
