Chapter 8 - Chapter 8. Strange Encounter… fresh blood.

The city at night…

The cold breeze extended to the streets as the creatures living in the darkness, the monsters and shadows, roamed freely but hidden in the night.

Humans inside their weak shelters, with those artificial lights and flashing machines, didn't notice. They were distracted and living comfortably in between the mist, without knowing the wonders and nightmares sitting by their sides, watching them with delight.

A man in a gray suit and black tie came out from a bar on the main street. The bright lighting of the establishment was reflected on his wide muscular back. The loud music, the laughter, and the cheers disturbed the silence of the darkness and the peace in his mind.

He was supposed to be drinking with his boss and some clients as they had just finished a good deal. However, after a few bottles of whisky, tequila, and some other drinks he couldn't remember their names, it was impossible for him to continue. The human scent smelled like decay in that place. Men, women… humans.

"This is awful," his low husky voice whispered as he grabbed a cigarette from his pocket and looked at the night sky, with his dark gaze fixed on the vigorous moon's light. "I wish to be with my wife… my mate, she must be waiting for me. How much should I keep doing this? I want to go back…"

He lit the cigarette and waited for the wine to settle down and his mind to clear up. The cold breeze helped him wake up from the human dizziness, and he loved it. It made him remember the cold he missed so much, the purity of the forests, the fragrance of the leaves, and the fresh humidity under his feet as he ran on the fresh grass.

"Sir, do you have another one?" Suddenly the dominant voice of a woman made him turn around. He was surprised as he didn't sense her presence nearby. He thought his senses would never get dull even with all that alcohol and smoke in his body. But maybe he was just getting old…

Eva looked at him and smelled the aroma of the cigarette with mint flavor. However, beyond the fragrance, she could perceive that man's pure blood. Clean, strong, and with the scent of the forests. What an oddity in between all that human corruption.

He didn't seem to be a bad person either, not like those three back in the alley.

After killing them, she watched her lovely pet, Percy, play with their bodies. She didn't feel an ounce of pity for them nor did she feel guilty, the world had lost three horrible souls and no one would miss them anymore.

The man looked at the young woman and sighed with annoyance. "Girl, go back to your home. This is no place for a young pretty woman to be, there are very bad people around here. Should I call a taxi for you?"

Eva raised a brow. That man didn't seem to have bad intentions, not even a bit of interest in flirting with her. His mind didn't seem to fall for her charms either.

She sighed in relief and nodded. "I would love to, but you see, I don't have any money with me. Some thugs stole my belongings."

After making Percy eat those three men, she didn't get to steal their money, as that damned creature ate them whole even with their clothes on. This time she couldn't leave that much evidence around. Though the blood… would attract some curious people in the morning, and the thing is that there was a lot of blood in the ground.

The man sighed again and took out his phone to call for a taxi. Then he gave her a few dollars. "Take it, with this you can get by for now."

It was not much but the man gave her enough for the ride back and maybe some dinner. Eva glanced over at him again with a frown and bafflement. From what she remembered, no one had ever helped her or given her money without anything in exchange. Even Mrs. Torres had stolen her money in a moment of need.

In her entire life in this world and hundreds of years ago, she had never received support from anyone. They all wanted something in exchange.

"Don't worry, I won't ask you to pay me back…" the man said when he noticed the suspicion in her eyes. Then his phone started to ring. His boss was calling for him. "Just take it as a good deed from someone who was in the same circumstances as you. It is better to help each other."

"Which circumstances?"

He looked at her and glanced at her with confusion.

"Nevermind, just leave… The taxi is about to arrive. There," he pointed at the road near a lamp post, "don't stay around too much at night. There might be monsters hiding."

Eva grinned. That man was correct. Monsters were hiding everywhere, but most of the time, they didn't hide in the shadows, they were outside enjoying the lights and basking under the sun. They were drinking, laughing, and spreading lies.

She engraved that man's face in her memories. In her whole life, she never was in debt with anybody. If she encounters him again, she will make sure to repay him accordingly.

Suddenly, she heard the honk from a car, and as she was turning to thank the strange man and ask for his name, he disappeared behind the bar door.

She grinned. "Maybe next time…"

She boarded the taxi quickly without looking back and asked the driver to send her to BlackRose College.

Night was already covering the city and maybe she won't get to the dorms before the curfew. She wanted to get there quickly, take a shower, and put on some clean clothes as she had some blood stains on her blouse and jeans.

Now that her little suitcase was already in the trash because Percy destroyed it without thinking, that damned creature, she only has left her things in the dorms.

'This is so frustrating,' she sighed.

After a while, the driver stopped by the gates of a huge school with the name BlackRose College at the entrance. Eva paid the fare with the strange man's money and went out with a big smile.

The smell of fresh, nourishing youthful blood reached her nose. "Shall I drink some blood first?"

She had to pause for a moment to inhale the delicious scent of young blood stored in one single place. It was perfect.

In her previous life, young people between the ages of seventeen and twenty-five were the tastiest of them all. They had the best blood. Even more, she was not afraid of killing them from blood loss.

Young people could regenerate their blood with some food and a good lengthy rest, therefore she tried to take blood from them most of the time. However, and to her bad luck, they were also the ones who were affected the most by her pheromones. If she was not careful, they would try to do something to her sacred body.

Her husband… that man forbade her to directly drink blood from those young people, for fear of having more temptations than she should. Only he could calm her vampire pheromones, and only he could enjoy the seduction after being bitten.

Anyway, she's not married now and she can enjoy the pleasures of the flesh all she wants... Well, that's not entirely true. She was married to an ice cube.

"Mmm… I have to settle that once and for all."

It didn't suit her to be married to someone unknown. She couldn't even quite remember that man's face. But she knew that her husband was not worthy of her.

Anyway, first she had to resolve her current financial position and she had a good idea of how.
