Chapter 32 - Blinded By Rage

["Emma, what nonsense are you speaking? Godfrey Ironheart? Your son is missing, that isn't him! He must've placed a mind control spell upon you. It has to be that Vessel of his."] Margret frowned as she glanced back at Edith who was behind her.

["Don't try anything foolish, you commoner."] Edith caught onto Margret, moving the head of the arrow closer to her neck.

["No, what I say is the truth. He is my first son... but... I casted him away, long ago. It's as if he came back to haunt me."] Emma intently stared at Prometheus who was standing above her.

["Why did you throw me away Mother? Why? You threw me to the side and had another kid... how could you do this to me?"] Prometheus was saddened. Despite the mask hiding his facial expression, his heart ached. It was obvious.

["When I and Richard had you, you were born with a terrible disease... I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about, don't you, Godfrey?"] Emma proclaimed.

["Spirit psychosis."] Responded Prometheus.

["You... were born with such a condition? There has only been a handful of people throughout centuries who had such an illness."] Margret exclaimed.

["Yes... ever since I was a little boy, up to the age of 5, my spirit psychosis drained the mana from people's bodies, and eventually their spirits as well. They lost mana around me, no matter how much of a supply they had, and they even died within my vicinity. I was a walking nightmare."] Prometheus clenched his fist, enraged. ["I had no one at that time... except my mother, and father... yet... they left me too"] An ominous aura appeared around Prometheus again, signaling his anger. ["You were the only people I had, so why? Why did you leave me?!!"] Prometheus curled back his arms, leaning his head into the sky as he yelled, releasing such vicious energy throughout the village.

Huge gusts of wind had torn down houses and knocked down trees. The commoners were swept off their feet, except for Margret, Edith, and Emma.

["P-Prometheus... we are ordered not to kill them! It's Lady Mammon's words!"] Edith stood up anxiously, taking the arrow away from Margret's neck.

["Shut the hell up!!"] Prometheus swiped his hand to the side, knocking Margret and Edith away from a rush of high winds. ["You have no idea how it feels... to be left from even those that you love. You, people, don't know! So shut the hell up!!!"] A red aura was flowing around Prometheus' body as he gripped Emma's shirt, picking her up from the ground. ["I'll make you pay! For every year you made me suffer, I'll inflict it back on you!"]

["Emma, what are you doing? Fight back!"] Margret stood up, yelling at her friend, but there was no response.

Only silence, and regret.

["...I deserve it, son, I deserve every bit of it. I'm sorry for what I did... there could've been another way to save you... yet I abandoned you..."] Emma glanced towards the blade in Prometheus' hand, smiling. ["That vessel you hold... it's the one thing keeping your spirit psychosis from taking effect, isn't it? You truly have grown, Godfrey, I am a proud mother... as much as you hate me saying that."]

["SHUT UP!!!"] Prometheus lunged his fist into Emma's gut, twisting it with brutal force to send her flying! She twirled clockwise, feeling her gut twist inwards.

["Emma!! Damnit all, don't just sit there, isn't it your order to kidnap us? Not have someone die!"] Margret glanced at Edith, grabbing his collar. ["Do something!"]

["I-I can't... Prometheus is too strong for me. I can't fight him! Whatever happens... happens..."] Edith was shaking in his legs, looking down to the ground, ashamed.

["What the hell? You have a vessel, don't you? You can fight him!"] Margret glanced at Edith's bow, questioning if it really was a vessel or not.

["Y-Yes... I do, but I am still no match to his vessel!"]

["You have to be shitting me! Honestly, what did those BlackWing idiots think of sending two children to restrain us? I feel offended."] Margret sighed and suddenly yanked the bow from Edith's hand. ["Give me that! If you're just gonna sit there and whine like a bitch, I'll handle it from here. Go home kid, maybe you'll have better luck next time, kidnapping women."]

["I-I'm sorry… for being so useless…"] Edith dropped to his knees, banging on the ground. ["P-Please don't hurt me… I'm sorry! I don't wanna be useless, Mother! Don't hurt me!"] Edith started to whimper through his mask, sobbing in defeat.

["What the hell?"] Margret just watched it all, confused out of her mind… however, she focused back on her primary objective, which was saving Emma. ["The BlackWing must be using kids with bad childhoods to their advantage, in order to carry out their bidding. How cruel."]

["Why don't you fight back, Mother? I wanna see you struggle! You deserve to suffer, cry, and yell out your lungs! Just suffer, you bitch!!!"] Prometheus kicked Emma into her hip, knocking her to her side… but she kept getting back up.

Her ribcage was broken, her pelvis had shattered, and her arm was dislocated. Blood dripped from her lips and her cheek was swollen.

Yet, she remained calm and collected.

It was as if she was reminiscing old times of her child before she casted him away.

["You threw me out the house like trash! You made me live on my own, lost and scared in the world with no one! I had to eat rats, live in the woods, and steal to survive! You have no idea what it's like, Mother!"]

["I love you, Godfrey."]

Prometheus covered his ears, shaking his head back and forth in denial.

["Shut the hell up! You don't love me, stop saying you love me! I won't be manipulated anymore by you!"] Prometheus jolted his body in random directions, fighting his emotions. ["I'm not gonna hesitate! I'm just gonna kill you instead!"] He removed his hands from his ears, stretching out his arms. Fire ignited above his palms, and a fierce growling could be heard. ["Good riddance to you… mom…"]

*SHNICK*

The sound of an arrow flew past Prometheus, dispersing the flames above his palms.

["Grrrr…"] Prometheus growled as he turned his head to the side, eyeing the assailant.

["That was a warning shot. The next one won't miss."] Margret had perfect form whilst holding the bow; When drawing back, she placed her index finger above the nock, and her middle finger, and ring finger below it. She drew the arrow in a single smooth motion—keeping her arm holding the bow bent, to avoid snapping herself.

Her position was immaculate as if she trained all her life when mastering the arts of archery.

["Stay… outta… this… it doesn't concern you!"] Prometheus turned his attention to Margret, unsheathing his vessel from behind his back, holding it with two hands. ["One mistake will cost you your life…"]

["Ha! Who said I'm gonna be the one making the mistake here? Wanna test it out, boy?"] Margret smirked, closing her left eye, and focusing all her focal points on her right.

Prometheus stepped forward, having his vessel shimmer in a golden light around the blade.

["Fuck our orders, I'll be the one deciding the outcome of this mission, starting with the red-head!!!"] Prometheus launched forward, accelerating towards Margret at hypersonic speeds.

Their movement was fast, even the commoners couldn't keep up with what was happening, except Emma and Edith.

["No! You can't!"] Edith leaped in front of Margret, stretching out both arms as if he was protecting her.

["Edith, you lunatic! Get out of my way!!!"]

["Stop it Prometheus, Lady Mammon said not to kill!"]

["Go to hell!!!"] Prometheus ignored his words, jabbing his sword right through Edith's gut, and ramming him into the wall of a house.

It soon became clear what happened to the commoners, as they glanced over at the bleeding boy, pierced against the building, with a sword encroached in his gut.

["Guhhh…"] Edith puked blood, as it leaked down his mask. ["W-Why… Prometheus?"]

Prometheus scowled.

["Anyone who stands in my way of revenge… is just another enemy of mine."]

Edith gasped for air, trying to pull the sword from his gut.

["Y-You don't mean that… Prometheus… you're just blinded by rage…"] Edith slowly slid down the wall of the building, landing on his bottom. ["W-We were friends… s-since day one. We always stuck by each other's side… but every time we mentioned your mother… you always gotten so angry… and blinded by hatred… that's why… I never mentioned them… and it's also why- Guack!"] Edith spat out more blood, gasping for air as his lung was pierced. ["I-Its also why… I never wanted to take this mission… because I knew… something… bad… will… happen."]

Prometheus, still blinded by rage, turned away from Edith.

["Whatever you say…"]

["How could you? How could you do that to your own ally? From where I'm standing, it sounded like he's a friend of yours, yet you stab him without mercy?"] Margret, still holding her bow, and preparing her shot, glanced at Prometheus with rage in her eyes.

["He's no one to me. Just another nobody."]
