Chapter 30 - Ammo and Armor

I learned a lot from shooting some rounds of each type of ammo. I took down some facts and learned many things from shooting my assault rifle for a while.

The First thing I learned was that my rifle started to heat up after thirty rounds, and I had to give it a minute before I shot again if I went full auto.

The Second thing I quickly learned was that each type of ammo had its uses. Hollow-point was best for killing people and blasting a hole in them. It was meant for the kill and did maximum damage to humanoids with no armor. Because of this, I made getting a set of light armor, at the very least, a priority. I almost felt naked in simple leather because of it.

Armor-piercing was self-obvious and was meant to damage armored targets, but when hitting flesh, it tended to exit in a straight path. It was intriguing to see in the computer simulator function this experimental shooting range had. This was an advantageous ammo type for those in heavy armor. It would drill into the armor and punch through the person. Once inside, it wouldn't have enough momentum to exit again, so that it would bounce around. So if I had armor-piercing ammo against an armored target, it acted perfectly for killing them.

Anti-personnel was a happy medium-type ammo for those armored and unarmored. The unarmored person would get shot, and a small incendiary fire would break out, which could either kill the person or save them by cauterizing the wound upon impact. Armors without fire protection, though, would be damaged and have fires break out on them, causing damage to the occupant, and it could also distract them. It was exciting, and it was extremely useful to have.

The explosive was the most interesting. It literally was like an explosive upon impact. The computer-simulated unarmored people would die in horrific ways when it hit them, and armored foes were usually stunned it looked like. It was powerful, but it did mostly superficial damage from light armor to heavy armor. It would cause a kinetic issue, but it would kill the person anytime soon, making it more worth using armored piercing unless you were in a group. I could think of uses for it against bosses if the game had those and for hitting vital areas to open them up in a tank. Otherwise, it felt like a niche ammo that acted a lot like Hollow-point.

Lightning rounds were something that I wanted more of in total. I would set it as a default ammo type in the future, especially on trying to catch the person alive. It was a round that was built to hit both armor and flesh and not kill. It would stun the person for a duration after the person was shot unless that armor had conducting abilities. It was like shooting a stun gun at a person multiple times. Extremely useful and something I consider a bounty hunter's best friend, probably in the future. Then there was the secondary thing about Lightning rounds that I thought of and checked against Robotic or technological enemies and robots. They were strong as hell against them as enemies. Not only did they stun robotic enemies for a long time they also caused them more damage than met the naked eye could account for. That being said, there were ways for producers to mitigate those, which I wouldn't be surprised to see later.

This was a tutorial, after all.

The last rounds I had were buckshot, and I realized the use for these was simple. monsters, animals, and creatures, in general, were the target of this weapon. With how many monsters there probably were, you probably didn't know the anatomy of each of them, so why not full-auto pump them full of buckshot to kill them? It was simple and also worked on crowds of humanoids without armor. Simple and to the point, I decided that I would buy a couple of boxes of ammo of this just in case I had a mission on the planet or a bounty that was in a forest.

I grinned, wondering if there were more ammo types, and this was just the start. I wondered if I could also create my own types of ammo and explosives in the future. Most of all, I was disappointed with the explosive ammo, and I couldn't help but wonder if this was just a low-level version of the ammo that didn't work very well.

There was so much to explore and learn about this game that I knew that these things might be subject to change. I packed up my assault rifle not long after learning all that. Next, I moved onto my sniper rifle and turned the range into sniper mode. First, I checked if my scope was lined up and quickly found it was on point. It was great to hear, and I loved to know that it was ready to go soon.

Soon I had the field start simulating various environments, and I quickly started to enjoy shooting. I realized this game was Hyper-realistic or Hardcore realistic since Wind came into effect on bullets from a far distance. I was stunned by the realism, as that was something even the last Call of Duty VR game stayed away from. Gamers were not very happy if a bullet didn't travel in a straight line and tended to get annoyed about that.

It was also the same thing I remembered with an early game where they added spin to planets when you were not there. People tended to get lost in it and not be able to find their old spots. Same with Day night cycles moving around a planet. It was both funny and sad, and I wondered if Gabin Corporation knew what they were doing this time to include it.

With that being the case, though, I wondered if there was a scope that could feed you the information you needed at some point to help account for that. For now, I would struggle with extremely long-range shooting because of this. It was good to learn in a shooting range; these things exist instead of in a shoot-out.

I wouldn't say I got the grasp too quickly, but I learned a lot while shooting all the ammo I purchased. I knew I had lost track of time and decided to pack my things up, and I would purchase more rounds from the desk. I still had the room rented, but I would also check out how Ura was doing.

I got up and cleaned the place quickly before returning to the lobby. As I walked up, I saw a couple of people talking to the snake man at the counter. "Hello," I said as he turned to me, putting up a finger to the others, asking for a moment. "I would like to purchase five hundred rounds of Five Six Two ammo in Armor-piercing and Lightning rounds. I would also like to purchase sixty of buckshot and anti-personnel ammo, and thirty rounds of explosive ammo all in five point six two ammo. Then I would like the same Sniper ammo that I purchased earlier with a hundred rounds and was wondering if you also had some Armor piercing rounds for it, and if you do, I would like a hundred of that and the same in explosive if possible." I put in the order, and the Snake was happy.

"Gladlysshh," The Snake hissed out with happiness, and I think he squatted down, although I wasn't sure if he had legs behind that counter. A moment later, he was piling ammo up for me, and soon I was paying. "Ish givesh ash ssshhhlight dsihcount." The Snake said, and I saw the cost and winced a little. I needed the ammo, though as soon I was taking more contracts. "Thesh Explosivesh roundsh theresshhh," He said, pointing at the sniper rifle ammo box.

I paid and winced for the moment as the balance came up on my end.

Then I realized just how much Credits seemed to be worth. My eyes widened, and I smiled, thanking him as he asked if I wanted a backpack for all the ammo for twenty credits. I nodded, and my balance lowered again.

The snake man quickly pulled out a black backpack that looked compact and loaded all the ammo into it for me. "Willsh youssh keepssh theshh samesh roomsh?" The Snake asked, and I shrugged.

"Not sure yet," I replied with a smile, "I will find out in a minute; I will keep it for now," I told him and moved towards the practice range, and he didn't stop me. As soon as I walked away, he started to talk with the other people in another language. When I looked back for a second, I realized it was a human and a very bright pink humanoid that was talking to the snake. He was looking happy to talk to them, so I continued without another word entering into the main shooting area while pressing my ears down.

I walked past the headphones and entered a second room where gunshots were going off in a rapid fire. I walked over to Ura near the end and saw her with a large smile and a slight purple blush on her cheeks as she fired down range with a hand cannon. The large pistol was a large caliber, and I walked up behind her while her ears were covered. She shot another bullet down the range and hit the target. Her aim was a little off, but she was generally hitting the target. She was not the best shot, and I looked down at the ammo left on the desk. Ura's ammo count was low, and I could see her arms starting to shake as I looked closer. She emptied her magazine and started to load up the magazine.

I tapped her shoulder, which scared her a little, and she spun around to see me smiling as others continued shooting. I grinned, pointed at her ammo, and tilted my head in a question, and she nodded by turning a little to pick up the magazine and put up two fingers with a grin. So she only had two magazines, and she started to shoot her quickly refilled magazine with happiness.

Not long later, we both stepped out, and Ura returned the pistol, and we both started to head back to the ship. "How did the shooting go?" Ura finally asked, looking at my new backpack.

"Good, I picked up a bunch of ammo as well. Something to keep me shooting for a bit. I will need to modify my tactical rig a little and come up with some armor, though. I think we both need to invest in some good armor in case things happen," I said to her seriously, and Ura frowned.

"Even light armor is expensive. When in the military, I used to have a medium armor rig set in case the ship got boarded.:" Ura frowned, "A decent medium armor set is around two hundred thousand credits, and a decent light armor set is at least a hundred and fifty thousand credits. Armor is not cheap." Ura told me, and I frowned.

That was the reason no one was wearing armor. If I could buy a lot of ammo for five thousand credits, then that meant armor was damn expensive. A decent set was a hundred and fifty thousand, which meant there were probably some cheap alternatives.

"You must be thinking about the cheap shit now," Ura said, "Don't think about that. They are notorious for glitches that can even lock you in a spot. I am saying this to save your life and mine. Do not ever think about wearing cheap armor. Better to be unarmored than in a cheap suit of armor that can glitch and not allow you to move or shoot. Or even get you stuck without someone cutting into the suit to get you out. It is Dangerous, to say the least. You can also only buy those suits in black markets in places here," Ura said, motioning at the station around us.

"Okay, I trust you. I will wait to purchase some light armor. I was just going through the ammo types and wanted the armor to protect against Hollow-point ammo and lightning rounds. For now, I will stick to trying to remain unshot instead." I told her with humor as we reached the lifts. "Well, Let us have a nap before we deliver the goods."

"That sounds good; I enjoyed letting off some steam with that hand cannon. My arms are shaking a little from exertion. I want a nap, and we can be in top condition for the deal." Ura yawned, looking cute as she did so, and I wrapped an arm around her pushing my pistol into her a little by accident as I did so. "Your Pistol!" she lightly exclaimed.

"I will use my pistol on you after the deal," I told her with a grin but released her as we entered the elevator.

Ura blushed a deep purple, and I knew I had turned her on with that last comment. I knew we were not going to do anything to each other. We reached the ship dock and stepped into the ship after Ura unlocked it.

We both quickly stripped and headed to the crew quarters to lie down. Ura put on an alarm for five hours, and I laid down with her.

Instead of anything frisky, I logged out of the game. I had an hour to do things, and I was going to use it.
