"Yeah, turn you into a werewolf, and then when you get back to college the next semester. You'll go ahead and start biting people's heads off over there. You think it's easy to control the urge, Ellie?"
As much as Sydney likes Ellie, she's not going to do that for her. It's too dangerous, besides, being human is so much better than being a werewolf. If Sydney wasn't a werewolf, Barry wouldn't have turned out as her mate and ruined life for her.
"You can't control the urge to feed or even worse to kill especially when you are badly tempted to. And I still prefer you being human than a werewolf or any other species that might be out there" Ellie's wish is never going to come true as Sydney didn't agree to turn her.
She would have turned to Roman but he's still a kid with no wolf, yet.
And note she's not that desperate enough, otherwise she would've gone looking for other werewolves to turn her since Syd keeps on refusing to do so. As if she would even find ones as kind-hearted as Sydney that wouldn't turn on her and eat her instead.
"I know Roman doesn't have a wolf, yet. But I'm starting to think that it might be time for him to change school or even better homeschool him. The other kids might have to start avoiding him to not get hurt, and even his teacher might start to question his behavior anytime soon. What he did to that kid today was horrible. What if tomorrow? He bites someone's ear off?"
Sydney changed the topic Ellie brought up, making it about Roman again. He has her extremely worried about this constant habit of fighting at school almost every single day. What if they find out what he is? And she's not there on time to protect him.
She lets him go to a school full of humans so he can learn how to fit in as she did. But what if he's unable? Things would have been easier and so much better if they were still in packs. At least, back then each pack had its school.
"You're actually right, I think homeschooling will be much better for him. It's easier to keep an eye on him here. And finding a tutor isn't going to be that hard" Ellie bought Sydney's idea to homeschool Roman.
Over here at home, they can look over him and monitor his behavior more than his teacher does at school.
"It's good but then I'm also kind of thinking that we should leave it till he's like maybe ten or twelve. I just want him to be able to make friends, I don't want him growing up and feeling like he should be avoided and kept away from making friends just because he's different from them"
Sydney doesn't plan for Roman to live like she used to. Having no friends and no friend's place to go to, just because her parents would think that she could use it as an excuse to sneak out to go see Barry.
She plans on being way better than her Mom and Dad were ever to her and doing her best for her pup although there are some parts she fails in being a parent.
"Right, did you happen to ask him why he fought with that kid at school today? Kids fight for a reason and as I told you before. Roman is a very sweet kid, he likely fought because maybe that kid wronged him first"
Ellie said to Sydney and it made her realize for a moment that she rarely ever asks Roman questions, whenever he's involved in a fight and she would just scold him for it whether it's his fault or not.
"I know he has Barry's blood as much as he has yours. But I think the reason you always go hard on him is because he reminds you so much of Barry, Syd" Ellie felt like she just opened an old wound of Sydney's, which she has been trying to heal from for years.
However, it seems like the truth and Sydney is likely never going to admit to it.
"He's asleep now, when getting him ready for school tomorrow morning, you could maybe ask him why he fought with that kid. Trust me, Syd, you will see Roman is nothing like Barry" Ellie kept on talking and mentioning Barry since Sydney appeared not to be mad at her for it and just kept quiet listening to her speak.
"Syd? Sydney?" She called out to Sydney who was looking at her, but with a mind that seemed to be somewhere else. "Sydney!" Ellie had to yell to get Sydney's attention back on her.
"Y..y..yes?" Sydney was brought back to reality. "I zoned out for a bit now, didn't I?" She questioned the moment she realized she wasn't paying attention to Ellie.
Ellie nodded to Sydney and felt like her mind was bothered by something else and not just the topic she brought up about Barry. "Is there anything else that happened at Roman's school today you aren't telling me?"
"Nope," Sydney was quick to say no to Ellie, failing to remember she's very predictable to her whenever she's lying.
"Don't tell me that, Syd. I can tell when you are lying and trust me when I say that it doesn't suit you at all" Ellie puts Sydney to shame each time she lies to her. It's very easy to tell she's lying because of the guilt that washes all over her face whenever she does.
Sydney could only sign and give in to her. "When I went to bring Roman from school today, I kind of met someone I have been hiding from a very long time"
"Let me guess, Barry?" This was the best Ellie could guess.
"Ew, no, not him. If I ever get to meet Barry again in this life, I'm going to completely act like I don't know him and I hope he does the same too" This is literally what Sydney plans to do anytime she ever gets to cross paths with Barry again.
"So who was it? If it wasn't Barry? He's the only one I can think of any time you tell me you met someone without explaining who they are"
"My brother, Shane. I ran into him today. You know I ran away from home and now he wants me to come back"
"Oh," Ellie was surprised, finding out that Sydney ran into a family member. He seemed to be quite close with her, she could tell from the way she was looking downcast, talking about him as if she missed him.
"So, what did you say to him? Are you going to go back?" Ellie hopes Sydney says no to her. If Syd leaves, then who would she stay with? She can't go and stay in a household full of werewolves and no humans like her.
Plus, Sydney's parents sounded like they were really bad parents when she told her about them.
Ellie felt like Sydney totally read her mind and let her know this. "Of course, I said no to him, Ellie. There's no way I'm leaving you behind. You are the only real family I have now after I left them"
Sydney heard Ellie's heartbeat fall back to its normal beating rate after letting her know she was not leaving her. Shane should know that if she had the heart to leave home, then she also has the heart not to ever come back or even think of it.
