Mira was sitting on the chair in front of the computer screen with her chin resting on her right-hand palms. Her eyes stared at the screen blankly. She scrolled through the article on Huīrui bankruptcy again and again. Those same words resonated in her mind.
Thud!
The sound of someone slamming the file on her desk brought her from her thoughts.
Glancing to her left she saw Dhalia with a poker face standing beside her desk. Her hands folded in front of her chest.
"Correct all these finance statements by tomorrow 7:00 Am," Dhalia ordered as she stood behind her desk. Her eyes looked straight ahead.
"All of these?" Mira asked as she looked at the stack of files placed on her desk. Her eyes wobbled as she tried to focus her vision on the pile.
"Yes, all of them," Dhalia replied bluntly.
"But.. but.." Mira was speechless by Dhalia's actions.
"No buts," Dhalia's shook her head as she walked past Mira and headed towards her office.
"It's impossible!" Mira screamed in her mind. Because this was the only thing she could do at that time.
Mira grabbed her coffee mug and proceeded toward the office kitchen. She made herself a cup of coffee. Drinking it slowly and steadily as the caffeine hit her bloodstream. She took another sip of the coffee after finishing off half of the cup.
"Look who is here. Miss Mira, it's still early in the morning and it's your 3rd cup of coffee," Kieran commented sarcastically as he leaned against the kitchen counter. Mira ignored his comment and continued to sip her coffee.
"Ah.... guess it's because of what happened in the morning. You must be shocked that I won the project," Kieran chuckled softly as he poured his tea into the mug leisurely.
"How much did you pay for this proposal?" Mira asked nonchalantly as she continued to drink her coffee.
Mira knew her stepbrother very well. He is never interested in doing hard work or office work. He has been like this since childhood. Even he paid students to do his homework.
He stopped pouring his coffee. A smirk crept onto his face and was now vanished and replaced with a serious expression.
"Just because you lose in the fight doesn't mean you can get cocky," Kieran stated sternly as he placed the coffee kettle on the counter.
"Kieran, you and I both know clearly. Who is lying and who is being cocky," Kieran said while placing her empty mug on the counter.
"You better watch Mira or you might regret your words," Kieran retorted as he faced Mira while leaning on the counter and flipping his coffee.
"You better watch how I win over you," Mira sneered with a smile while placing her empty mug on the counter beside Kieran.
"Have a nice day," Mira said as she walked out of the kitchen flipping her hair backward dramatically.
.....
Mira was sitting on the chair, her hands quickly moving across the keyboard. Her fingers were dancing gracefully over the keyboard as she typed up her report. She needed to complete her task quickly so she could get back home and get some sleep. She had not slept well the last few nights because of the proposal.
Mira was immersed in her work; she didn't even realize that the sky was turning the black from orange-blue to black. Most of her colleagues had already left the office.
It was quiet. Only the sounds of her typing and clicking of keys could be heard as Mira worked hard. Some seconds later she stretched her body and yawned loudly. She looked around herself only to realize she was remaining as everyone had left.
Her eyes quickly shifted to her clock and it read 9:00 pm. She looked outside of the glass windows and saw that it was getting dark outside. The street lights were shining brightly. Her stomach rumbled from hunger and her mouth began to water due to the lack of food.
Placing the pen back on the table. She closed her laptop before grabbing the stack of files in her hand and placed her purse over her shoulder. With that, she proceeded to exit the office area.
Her feet carried her towards the elevator. When the lights suddenly went off, making her bumped into a tall figure. The files that were in her hands fell on the ground due to the fear when a hand wrapped around her waist. It pulled her flush against a firm chest. Closing her eyes she screamed at the top of her lungs.
"It's a ghost!!!!!!" she screamed as loud as she could. A hand covered her mouth in an attempt to muffle her scream.
When she felt the hands on her mouth. She bit down the flesh harshly on it until a little blood oozed out of the wound.
"It's me you fool!" he groaned in pain as she continued to bite his hand's flesh just like a mad dog. The light switched on revealing his face, which was inches away from hers.
"Zion," Mira gasped as she recognized the man in front of her. She immediately pushed him away.
"Why are you ghosting around?" Mira scowled angrily at him.
"Are you a wild dog?" he asked with his eyebrows frowned together, a scowl etched on his handsome face.
"It is called self-defense," Jing Zixia defended herself defensively as she crouched down to pick her things up.
"Nothing good comes when I am around you," Zion muttered under his breath as he looked at the biting wound.
The skin underneath was red and swollen from the bite. Mira stood up from the floor and looked at his wound. It really looked like a wild dog bite mark.
She reached out and gingerly touched the wound. His skin was warm, yet smooth.
"Wait," she said and pulled her left hand inside her bag and retrieved a bandage. Its color was light pink with some cartoon dogs printed on it.
She tore off the wrapper and moved towards his hand where the wound was located. But he brushed off her hand when she approached it.
"I am not applying. It is so childish," he grumbled.
