Was that for me to get jealous? No way, I had long prepared myself for things like that since it was inevitable for Dav to have a lot of mistresses.
Dav turned his gaze to me to see if there would be any reaction from me but to his greatest dismay, I maintained a poker face as I studied the lady's physical features.
Surely she was well blessed when it came to beauty and appearance but it seemed that she wasn't blessed with manners. How could she just barge into our meeting?
" I have told you that I have no business with you and the others. I am now married to your new princess." Dav said with gritted teeth.
Without a word, the lady gestured for one of the vampires to bring a chair before she sat on it with her legs wide open. At a point, I had to ask myself, can't she at least respect the presence of the king? Can't she act like a lady? And why would Dav, in his right senses, have anything to do with a lady that had no respect for his father? And why was the king not saying anything?
" You can't get rid of me so easily, we've been through a lot to just end things." This time her tone sounded like she was pleading but Dav didn't seem like he was buying any of that.
In the next second, he stood up from his seat and hurriedly walked up to her before dragging her out of our presence. That was right, he needed to talk some sense into her but at the same time, I became undoubtedly jealous.
Why would he want to talk to her privately? Can't he just voice out whatever he had planned to say to her?
Noticing my change in mood, father came to occupy Dav's seat.
Wordless, he brought his hand to my head and placed it on his shoulder. Hell did that single action draw attention toward us? Given the way that the vampires had reacted, it was very clear that it was the first time that the king had ever done that for someone.
The heat intensified the moment my gaze met with Dav's mother, the look of displeasure filled her face. Like every other female, she had the right to be jealous but didn't dare to question the king about the reason for his action.
I didn't want Dav's mother to accuse me of making out with her husband. That would be so embarrassing for everyone involved including Dav, my husband.
" Do you want to hear what your husband has to say to her?" The king blurted out. Of course, I wanted to know what Dav had to say, at least my change in mood should have spelled it out.
I simply nodded my head as my response and in one swoop, father removed my head from his shoulder and stretched his hands for me to take, which I did while the guests stared blankly at us.
There, he led me to a balcony darmacated from the ballroom by a transparent glass which made it possible for me to see Dav and his mistress.
Jealousy swooped in. Why did he place his hands on her shoulder? Was he getting back together with her? Was the reason why he didn't want me to hear what he wanted to say? But too bad, I could hear through the glass.
" I can always wait till she dies, she is a human and they tend to age very quickly, she would be the last human female to be brought to you." My eyes immediately widened. Did she just say that? How could she look forward to my death?
That was another aspect that I feared, I would one day die while Dav will still look like he never aged. When that happens, another human would be given to him to replace me and that's how the circle would continue until who knows when. After all, I was not the first human to be married to Dav, neither would I be the last and this made me feel devalued.
As long as the humans would provide a virgin female birthed on a lunar year for the vampire prince, the unity between the humans and vampires would be intact.
I waited for a few seconds in anticipation to hear Dav's response but he said nothing, instead, he seemed to have a thought about it.
Knowing how I felt at that moment, father tapped on my back. But why did I feel that way? Was that the effect of jealousy?
" It's been one hundred and fifty years since you promised that we will get married. Don't you think I have waited enough?" She continued.
If I was ever jealous before, then no words could describe what I felt. Dav had promised to get married to her but why hasn't he? He wasn't prohibited from marrying more than one wife.
Dav removed his hands from his crying mistress and brought one of his thumbs to clean the trail of tears that ran through her cheeks. I could have sworn that I saw a ' mission completed ' smirk on her face.
It was just a matter of time before her gaze traveled to where father and I stood and as expected, her smile widened but my world came crashing in by what she did next. In all my years in this world, I have never placed my eyes on a lady so shameless, even to the extent of begging to be a second wife to a married male.
She turned her gaze back to Dav and immediately leaned closer to face. I need no one to tell me what she had done which made me run away from that place.
Why would Dav bring me to the castle to embarrass me? What would the vampires who had seen them say? They would probably mock me.
I turned my gaze back to the balcony to see if Dav would angrily stomp out but no, he probably must have responded to her action. Well, who could blame him, the lady was too appealing even for the most self-controlled men.
" Woah, why don't you watch where you are going, princess?" I bumped into someone with a very familiar voice.
I turned my gaze to whoever it was and I went numb. It was one of Dav's brothers, although, I didn't know his name. He traveled his gaze to the balcony for a smile to cup on his face.
" I see that brother couldn't make tonight an exception to messing around." Dav's brother blurted. He seemed to understand the reason for my mood but I need no anymore feel pity for me.
Things like that were inevitable and for me to survive, I needed a strong heart and not consolation.
" Anyway, I'm Prince Lucius." He said but there was no need for an introduction on my side since he knew so much about me, so I simply nodded.
He shortened the distance between us and as expected, it drew attention to us. If there was one thing that that night had taught me, it was that vampires were good at noticing and probably, gossiping.
" You know, if my brother is busy with his mistress, I am more than willing to have your time."
I turned my gaze back to the balcony, still, Dav had not returned then I looked back at his brother. Dav would probably be angry if he saw me with his brother but I cared less. I can't be confined like a prisoner while Dav was allowed to have passionate moments with his mistress.
I returned prince Lucius' smile.
" Would you mind a dance?" He asked as he stretched forth his hands.
Without a word, I received it and he led me to the center of the ballroom. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that he wanted the crowd to notice us but I have grown to ignore their stares.
In one swoop, he held my two hands and placed them on his neck while he placed his hands on my waist. It did feel very uncomfortable but with the way the crowd had gathered around us, I couldn't walk away.
Did I just fall for a trap to make Dav jealous?
" Do you want to know a secret? You don't look like the past human females brought to my brother, which makes you the prettiest." He tried to start up a conversation by wooing me but it seemed that my father forgot to inform them that I am not easily swayed by cheeky words since anyone could say them and mean the opposite.
I said nothing but gave him a warm smile.
" So tell me, you already like my brother even after the scars on his face?" This time he sounded irritated, especially when he mentioned brother.
That question got me thinking, did I fall for Dav without knowing? Why was jealousy killing me ? Even when prince Lucius stood close to me, I would occasionally glance at the balcony to see Dav would come out.
Good lord, Dav had broken through my defenses without even trying. Just how loose of a woman was I?
" I–"
Before I could finish what I was about to say, I felt a strong grip on my waist. Who dared try such? Doesn't this person know that I was Dav's wife? But my tension was immediately extinguished when I saw who it was.
There, Dav drew me to his strong masculine chest with his two huge palms firmly holding my waist. Though I didn't see his face, when that mixture of his masculine smell and a slight smell of alcohol penetrated my nostril, I needed no one to tell me that it was my husband.
" Stay away from her, Lucius, she is off limits." Dav said with gnashed teeth as he stared daggers at his brother.
At that moment, I felt irritated, not by Lucius but Dav. After making out with his mistress, he still had the guts to act possessively of me. I immediately snapped his hands away from me, he can't possibly touch me with those hands that he had used to touch that seductive mistress of his.
As expected, his eyebrows creased as he gave me a confusing look.
" Don't you touch me, please!" I yelled and ran to whatever my legs would find themselves.
