April 2005...
Savannah
Once she got home, Savannah couldn't remember much of what happened at school that day. It was like as if her main goal was to avoid Kyle and she didn't know why. Every single time she saw him, she felt a little bead of sweat roll down her back and butterflies flutter around in her stomach.
She had a similar feeling around Nathan just a few months ago. She felt nervous around him and smiled at every word he said.
Wait!
Did she have a crush on Kyle!?
Savannah sat up on the duvet bed and looked around. Nobody was in the room except her yet for some reason she felt like she had shouted a cuss word in a very crowded environment. She felt like she was doing something wrong by saying she liked him. It felt like liking him wasn't a good Idea.
Savannah looked at her watch. She had been in her room for two hours now. Did thinking about this boy really make time go faster? Savannah thought to herself before standing up and making her way to the kitchen. Her mother was there. She didn't notice Savannah's presence until she walked in. Her mother stopped what she was doing and turned to look at Savannah.
"Oh, there you are. I thought you were asleep? Anyways, come help me with this would you". Amanda said with a warm look in her eyes. Savannah wanted to say no but it's not like as if she was doing anything important so what was the point of going back to that hot and stuffy room?
"Yeah, sure". Savannah said as she stood next to her mom. Cooking with her mom was one of the things that cleared Savannah's mind but today was different. Even while giving her mom the ingredients or constantly checking what's on the stove, Savannah couldn't distract her mind from a certain topic. Kyle. Her mind kept on drifting to questions like, 'How did he know about my birthday?'. 'Why did he even buy me that box of chocolate?'. ' Why didn't he introduce himself to me on my first day?'. Ugh. Savannah could only think to herself when those questions would pop up. She didn't hate the fact that she liked him, infact, she actually liked this feeling. She liked how excited he made her heart feel whenever she's around him. Yet sometimes she wondered if he felt the same way about her? She wondered how he saw her.
Dinner was ready after sometime and Savannah helped her mother in dishing the food out. Her mother took the tray to the living room while Savannah calledbAdam to come and eat.
The whole thing felt like a haze to Savannah. She barely listened to what was going on around her. Maybe just a few nods once in a while but in her head, everything was all about Kyle. For a moment, she thought of ending this crush.
She thought of how it would feel if she just didn't have a crush. It would be a risky move to take since her perspective of him would change. She won't need to be heartbroken at the end. No, no, no. She crossed that thought. Why not enjoy this feeling while it lasted, besides, Kyle was the full package, he was kind of cute, kinda smart, kinda mature... Practically every girl's dream boy! Well maybe not every girl, but he was Savannah's dream boy.
Wait?
Eww!
Savannah's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of plates being placed against each other. She looked around to find out that she was the only one that wasn't done eating .
"When you're done, take your plates to the kitchen and wash the other one's there". Adam said before taking the tray of dirty dishes to the kitchen. He had a smirk on his face before leaving. That boy! He was obviously trying to spite her.
As soon as Savannah was done eating, she took her plate to the kitchen and yes, she did wash all the dirty dishes that were in the sink.
Exhausted, Savannah turned off the lights in the kitchen before making her way to her room. '. How did my view of him change so quickly?' The sudden thought crossed Savannah's mind. She'd been in Saints for just a few weeks and yet she already has a crush. On someone that she once thought she hated. On someone that she once thought of as a spoilt brat. On someone that she once thought she'd never like.
How did it happen? Savannah didn't have the anwser to that question. Was it during the presentation or was it from the first day when he called her pretty. Savannah couldn't tell. She always felt nervous around him from the start but now it's different.
Shaking those thoughts off, Savannah walked into the room, her mother was busy arranging the cupboard. Savannah simply just walked in and wished her mom a good night before laying down. Her mother lay beside her a few moments later.
Closing her eyes shut, Savannah drifted off to sleep or maybe she just kept her eyes closed until she fell asleep. Either way, she couldn't sleep. She turned on her side and checked the time. It was almost midnight.
At this point, she didn't know what to do to get herself to sleep. She had read somewhere that writing down what's bothering you could help you sleep. She sat up and looked around. Her mother was still fast asleep beside her. Without waking her mother up, she got up and tiptoed all the way to her bag. Quietly, she opened the zip and took out one of her notebook's.
She wasn't planning on writing about her feelings for Kyle in her notebook. She didn't want anyone to find out about it. Well, maybe Christine and Debbie but noone else could find out. She tore a page from her notebook, looking back every few seconds to make sure her mom didn't wake up. She didn't know what kind of trouble she could get in if her mother saw her awake at this hour, writing about her crush on a boy in her class, and she wasn't planning on finding out.
She took a pen from her pencil case and drew a big heart with the words SAV + KY.
Hopefully this little hint wasn't big enough for anyone who saw it to know.
A small smile formed on her face as she folded the paper and put it in her pencil case and it in her school bag before rushing back to the duvet bed. And finally, she was able to sleep peacefully
