April 2005
Kyle is seated on his seat, distracted by the view from his window.
Savannah's birthday was just a few days ago yet he couldn't stop thinking about the gift he gave her. She did thank him on Monday but it is the polite thing to do. What if she just said it to not hurt his feelings ? It was just a box of chocolates, she probably just ate them without looking at the card.
His thoughts were interrupted by a few footsteps. He turned to look at the direction they were coming from and obviously it was her. Savannah walked into the almost empty classroom and sat on her seat. She didn't look at anyone and just put her head on her table.
For a second he wondered if approaching her and starting a conversation was a good idea but then again. He won't want to embarrass himself while trying.
Kyle stared at Savannah blankly, she didn't raise her head up for even a second. He didn't even realise when Derek walked in. Without wasting a second, Derek quickly grabbed the chair next to Kyle and sat on it.
"Hey, dude". Derek said while shaking Kyle to get his attention. Kyle immediately came to his senses and turned his focus to Derek. A small smirk started to form on Derek's face when he realised who Kyle was staring at.
"Dude, I can't believe you were actually serious. You actually do have a crush on her". Derek said still with a shocked expression. Kyle quickly shushed him when he heard the word crush come out of his mouth.
"I know, but you can't tell anyone else about it. Promise?" Kyle said. He didn't want Derek to go spill the beans about his crush and make Savannah probably hate him.
" Okay fine. I won't tell anyone about it, but just tell me everything that happened".
"What do you mean by everything that happened?"
"I mean, what happened when you gave her the gift?" Derek looked eager to know about it.
"I wanted to give her the gift during lunch but felt too many people would be there so I decided on giving it to her by her locker. I gave her the present and left before she could say a word". Kyle said blankly. He didn't think it was much of important news to share but since Derek wanted to know about it.
Derek didn't reply for a while before changing the subject, but for some reason, Kyle wanted to continue talking about her. This newfound feeling he had for her made him a bit weird. He couldn't stop the thought's he has of her and keeps searching for those big brown eyes of hers.
He didn't know whether to consult the only person he knew has experience on crushes but he didn't want Derek to tease him about it.
The school day went by like a flash. Each time he heard her voice or had eye contact with her, he didn't know why but his heart would beat rapidly. He had never felt this way for anyone before and it sometimes made him wonder why his heart chose her. There were so many girls in his school and his neighbours but for some reason he had to like her?
The question was something he didn't have the anwser to. His thoughts were then again interrupted by the honk of a car which obviously had to be for him.
He said bye to Derek before making his way to the car. All through the ride, his thoughts had drifted from school, to homework to Savannah. He hated how much attention he gave her but didn't know what to do about it. He didn't know how to stop it .
They arrived at home not long later. Kyle got out the car and made his way to his room. Everything about that place made him wonder how life would be if he had a smaller house. If his parents weren't rich and if they could just be around for once. As much as he hated the big and lonely mansion he lived in, he somehow loved the privacy he had. He could do whatever he wanted but sometimes it just feels a little bit too quiet.
He sluggishly made his way up to his room before shutting the door behind him. He threw his bag on the floor and jumped on his bed. The only place he actually felt truly belonged to him, his room, he could be free and express his thoughts into drawings here without any criticism. He got changed into a shirt and trousers before going back to his bed. He already attempted most of his homeworks at home and was about to go back and complete it but he didn't feel motivated.
He walked back to his study desk, the drawing of Savannah still there along with all the scattered drawings on the table. A smile slowly formed on his lips when he set his eyes on them.
He wanted to know more about his beautiful rose. A conversation would work, but how would he approach her.
He was an antisocial nerd who preferred sitting at home, drawing beautiful sceneries, or, walking around in the garden than going out to even a place like the store that was just a few blocks away. He never liked talking to people not to talk of starting conversations, and now he actually wanted to come out of his shell and approach a girl?
He didn't know what made these ideas come to him. For someone who had never had a crush, he was surely a noob at it. He didn't know why, but, whenever he's around her, everything felt ten times better. He felt lighter and free of any burden. But then, when he's not around her, he felt like all the problems that he kept to himself were back.
The only way he could free his mind from all those thoughts was either by drawing or walking around the garden. The need to be outdoors for a while felt calming since he didn't wat to be in his room alone anymore.
His second favourite place in his house, the garden. The beautiful flowers and trees that gave him so much comfort. All the ideas he had came from being here. He walked to the big swing that was placed just behind a little flower bed. He sat down and crossed his legs before resting his head on the thick rope that kept the swing steady.
He did want to come out of his shell, he wanted to walk up to her one random day and see how it would feel to be in Christine's place for once.
