April 1995 .....
Amanda put all her fears aside and walked to her stand. Her stand was beautifully decorated with blue and white embroidery and slices of her pie were kept at the center of the table.
Amanda sat on the chair and waited for her first costumer to arrive . She waited for a while but no one came to her stand. It seemed people liked Trisha's West- African buns more than Amanda's blueberry pie.
Amanda sat there for sometime before a lady walked up to her.
"Good afternoon, I'd like to try a slice of your blueberry pie".
" Oh ugh, that'll be 2 dollars please". Amanda said as she carefully took one of the slices from the tray and put it in a pack and gave it to the lady.
Once the lady paid and left, Amanda noticed a few people lined up to try her pie.
Amanda felt a wave of joy wash over her as she served each of them one by one.
Everything was going well, people enjoyed her pie, her kids were safe with Kimberly and overall, the event was amazing.
"Wow Amanda, everyone loved your pie, I told you you were going to impress everyone with it". Trisha said as they cleared up their stands.
" You're right, if not for you, I probably won't have had the courage to use my signature desert". Amanda said as she gathered all the trays.
" Amanda, I've got to go. Savannah and Adam have been really behaved, hope to see them tomorrow. Bye". Kimberly said before leaving the bakery .
" That girl is always in a hurry to go home". Trisha said after they finished packing up.
When they finally settled down, Trisha broke the silence.
" So, how much did you gain today?"
" I sold each slice of pie for 2 dollars and I think around 10 to 15 people bought my pie so probably around 20 to 30 dollars. How much did you gain?"
"I'm not sure but all I know is that it is less than what you gained ".
"Why would you say that?"
" Because you're the one that had the most customers, it's obvious you gained the most money".
Amanda didn't say anything after that and for a while the place was quiet.
" It's already getting late, I'll be going home, you should go home too, to prepare for tomorrow ". Trisha said before taking her bag and leaving the bakery.
Amanda pulled out the money she gained from her pocket and looked at it for a while.
She could buy a few vegetables, some steak and a few eggs and it will be enough for a few days. Amanda smiled to herself before putting the money back in her pocket.
She carried Savannah in her arms and dragged Adam to the car. Both of them started sleeping as soon as Amanda dropped them in the car.
Amanda locked her car and went straight to the mall. The remaining food in the house won't be able to last another day.
She made her way to the closest mall to their house and parked her car, locked the door and walked into the mall.
With the money she had, she already calculated the food stuff she could afford so it wasn't hard for her to buy what she wanted .
She picked out a few eggs, some spaghetti, and some potatoes.
Amanda went back to the car and drove back home feeling satisfied by what she was able to buy.
As soon as she got home, Amanda went straight to the kitchen and decided to prepare dinner.
Adam and Savannah were already dozing off on the sofa. After so many hours waiting for Amanda in the bakery, they weren't able to eat anything since that morning.
Amanda couldn't watch them go to bed on an empty stomach so she woke them up for dinner.
.....
On the second day of the special week, Amanda got to the bakery early to make her dessert more tasty than yesterday's.
This time she decided to leave Savannah and Adam in her neighbors house rather than taking them to work with her.
Usually, on the second day the baker's would each make a dessert and the customers would try each dessert and suggest which tasted the best.
Amanda decided to bake a cake. She decided to bake a chocolate cake and decorate it the same way she did on her first wedding anniversary.
The cake consisted of two layers and was covered with buttercream frosting and was coloured blue with a purple flower on top.
As soon as the event started, Amanda brought her cake out from the freezer and brought it to her stand.
It took a while but people started to come to her stand.
Just like Amanda, Trisha also baked a cake, but unlike Amanda, Trisha baked a red velvet cake with white buttercream frosting with sprinkles and a few flowers on top.
Both Amanda and Trisha had equal number of customers and each customer paid 5 dollars for a slice of cake.
At the end of the event, more people said they liked Amanda's cake than Trisha's or Kimberly's .
Amanda cleared up her stand feeling happy about the money she gained.
After packing the tray she went the kitchen and washed all the used items.
After she was done washing the items, she slowly brought out the money she gained for that day and counted it, it was a whole hundred dollars.
Amanda was so happy. Now she'd have enough money to arrange for Adam's birthday. Seems this year's special week wasn't so bad.
After some time, Amanda packed her bag and drove to her neighbors house to pickup the kid's.
After she picked them up, she went to her house and quickly prepared something for them to eat.
