The first thought Lupin got was that he was hallucinating and must see a psychiatrist. But then another idea struck him: Perhaps, I have really killed my wife and I am seeing her ghost. In this case talking to a psychiatrist is baseless. Rather seeing a psychic would do good. Lupin went to Eric's house next day. He and Eric were not best of friends, but they used to talk long on political matters and on other silly topics from the first year he joined the institution. Besides Eric was in BBC group. It would feel good if he talked to him about his wife. Eric welcomed him into his modest house. Lupin filled in with information how he spent his vacation with a new friend etc.
Eric made him a cup of coffee. To soothe his soul. Then said, "What is done is done, friend."
Lupin looked astonished at him and said, "So, do you think I had killed my wife?"
Eric hesitated for a moment, then said, "I didn't say anything like that. It is you who said it."
Lupin was confused.
"Listen Eric, I am here to understand my situation. Do you have any idea what is happening to me? Yes, I sound like a fool when I ask you about my life..."
Eric said, "You sure do..."
Lupin silently sipped his coffee. He thought it would be more foolish to talk to an unconsoling man like Eric. He drank his coffee and talked about school and his plan to join in his service after two more days and he bid Eric farewell and got out of his house. His heart was heavy with regret.
