Lupin was returning home when he stumbled upon Evan on his way. Evan jumped from thin air before him.
"How was your vacation, Pal? he said.
Evan was the last person in this universe he wanted to talk to right now. He would have been very much happy and obliged if he had met George now. Bit instead he met Evan. Man proposes, god disposes. Evan smilingly asked again, "How was your vacation?"
Lupin nodded softly. "It was good. A new experience."
"Nice, nice," said Evan. "I was just happening to pass by Eric's house and I caught a few words from your mouth that you've seeing an apparition, just like your wife."
Lupin said in his mind: At least I have a wife. You are so rich yet don't have one.
When Lupin did not respond to Evan's words, Evan said, " Don't worry, everything will be all right after a couple of weeks."
Lupin said, "I think I should go and talk to the town police about my wife missing."
Evan interjected, " And what will yoi say to them? Your wife was missing and you were enjoying your vacation!"
Lupin was an English teacher. He enjoyed reading books. Mostly thrillers. Evan's words opened his eyes and it made him think if he were inside a fiction it would be considered as a plot-hole if he had gone on vacation while his wife was missing. But thankfully it was not a fiction. It was real life and reality is stranger than fiction.
Evan said, "Don't worry I had talked to inspector Clifford about your missing wife..."
Lupin thought: If you own this town and its police, does it mean you own my wife too? By what authority you talked to inspector concerning my missing wife?
Evan said as if he read his mind, "You know I am the manager of the school where your wife was working too. As the manager I talked to inspector. And yes he asked me where were you. I told him that you were outside on some school business and you could not return because you were out of nation and our inspector Clifford is an agreeable man, he took control of everything."
Now Lupin thought: Man, I feel that because of this man- Evan, I had gone to Paris. He had asked me to go outside to lighten up. Does this man have any supernatural ability of hypnotizing people with his charm? If so, how come I hate him?
Lupin nodded his head and said, "Thanks for what you have done for me and my wife."
Evan patted him and said, " It's all right boy."
Lupin hated the most when Evan patronized him.
