Chapter 116 - Chapter 116 - Step Up

My grandparents visit was less emotional than I was anticipating.

They mainly sat with me and kept me entertained with conversation. The day passed on a lot quicker than the previous ones. I never considered myself a workaholic but just sitting and not doing anything really bothered me.

I prayed my wounds healed enough for me to finish my rest at home. I would need at least a few more days to get back into routine but I hoped to do that from the comfort of my own home. As nice as the VIP ward was, I did not feel truly relaxed. The doctors checked on my very frequently but because of that just when I would forget I am in the hospital I am brought right back.

Thankfully just shy of one week from being in the hospital, the doctors gave me the green light to be discharged. "You have healed up very nicely and most if not all of the superficial wounds have faded away. So if you are cool with it, I can have you discharged tonight."

I was hoping to be released earlier and wanted to ask but I saw the pointed look my dad gave me. Once the medical team left the room, my dad explained his reasoning for stopping me from asking to leave earlier.

"Listen kiddo, I get that you want to be out of here. Trust me, so do we, you know how I feel about sleeping in places that are not my home. But I asked to have you discharged fully by tonight just to help with cover. I don't want this leaked and risk your safety so by leaving at night we are more low key and not easily visible."

It made sense and it was annoying that it did. I had no choice but to listen.

"Given that, your mom and I will start taking our stuff back home and when we come back we will take you home." Seeing the strict schedule of trading shifts I was astonished that they would even leave me alone. I was not complaining but still, it seemed odd.

"I can already see the cogs working in that little head of yours but I asked someone else to stop by until we get back. Remember what wee talked about before this whole thing happened? Well we will start having that protection starting today which is why both of us need to head home."

Ahh see I knew it. But my face paled a bit at what his words meant. A large wave of deja vu passed over me at how similar both situations were. "Please tell me that I would get to meet whoever will be watching me. I refuse to have those hidden guys as it stresses me out too much."

"It won't be the same as before. They should be on their way right now so just wait for us ok? The day will pass sooner than you think."

I hoped so. They kissed my head and left me alone to wait for the guard. Maybe ten minutes after my parents left I heard the door slide open once again. However, the person standing at the door was none other than Dean.

"Oh thank God. I thought it was someone else. How are you?" He looked better rested than his last visit, no more dark circles. "Doing much better now that I can see you." He was dressed comfortably in a dark green hoodie and some black slacks.

His hair was cropped shorter than before but still a good length to run my hands through. His tresses were soft and silky and it was addicting just feeling his hair. He gently lifted me to sit himself on the bed and placed me in his lap.

"I heard the good news. You are getting discharged tonight." He drew circles on my back which due to the hospital gown was slightly exposed. But I was not complaining, this moment would probably not come back until much later in time.

"Yes finally I am. I assume owning the whole hospital system has its perks for you to find out stuff." I teased him as I poked his arm and sides. "Well duh. I am not just going to flex my owner status just at events that relate to the hospital. As hard as I work I get to play hard as well. And for me thats you."

He snuggled into my neck and before I could let this continue I remembered about another guest who I was expecting before my parents came back. "Oh shoot, listen no offense but I need you to take a seat in those chairs over there. My parents hired a guard to watch me and that person is supposed to arrive any minute."

I shoved his face using my hands and he made no effort to move. On the contrary his hands tightened around me and he gave me a hazy look. Clearly he was having the time of his life. "Princess did your parents not tell you?"

The tracing continued lazily as he rested his head on my shoulder. " I am gonna be the one watching you. Well at least out in public."

Before I could stop myself I started laughing. "Oh please come up with a better excuse, my parents letting you watch me. Sure when pigs fly." However when I looked in his eyes I saw that he was not kidding.

"Wait, are you serious? You are guarding me? How did that even come up?" His laughter filled the room as he looked extremely pleased at my reaction. He tapped my nose lovingly. "I was shocked too when he accepted but because of your past experience he was not sure how to keep you safe both physically and mentally. So because of my training and the fact that we work together and you trust me it was decided I would step up until a better solution can replace me."
