Kevin knocked on the door and he heard his mother's voice. "Come in," her voice ranged calmly from inside. Kevin hesitated outside his mother's bedroom door, his hand hovering over the doorknob. He took a deep breath, feeling nervous about what he was about to do. It wasn't often that he went out of his way to be polite, especially to his mother. But tonight was different. He had been feeling a little hyper today and he suddenly realized that he missed spending time with his mother.
He finally turned the doorknob and stepped into the room. His mother was sitting at her desk, in her night dress, working on her computer. She looked up at him in surprise. "Kevin, what are you doing here?" She yawns lightly; he's not the type of person that would knock, he was one of the person she least expected.
"I was wondering if you're free for dinner tonight," he said, his voice slightly hesitant.
