"Hey, kiddo. What you doing laying there?" Dex heard a glitchy voice, causing him to slowly look up.
He saw a person wearing a broken helmet squatting on the roof, the visor was visibly broken, and bits of the outer shell were exposed too.
Through the broken visor, he could see a boy with a ruby iris and bits of orange hair sticking out.
"You don't look so good yourself.." He raised his voice while replying, causing the other person to snicker.
"Fair point." He slowly scaled down the wall as Dex slowly stood up.
"Well, glad you're not dead. Nice meeting ya. I better get on with my life." He waved while walking away.
Dex stood there and watched him walk away
After he left, Dex glided his feet towards the nearby wall and slid down.
He cupped his face while taking a deep breath, 'I was too emotional.. I shouldn't have said that..' He mumbled, 'But he is no longer the brother I know..that is true..'
His eyes peeked through the gap between his fingers, looking ahead at the other building.
He slowly closed his eyes and sighed, "The truth hurts.." His head tilted back, leaning against the wall.
His hand dropped from his face as he slowly opened his eyes.
He saw a figure covered with energy standing not far from him, causing him to raise a brow, "Um? I can see you, you know?"
The figure seemed alerted and quickly spirited away.
"Hah…" He didn't know how to respond to that, but felt the energy pattern was familiar, "Alright.."
Dex slowly stood up and rubbed his head, glancing at the direction the figure ran to. He just brushed it off and went to grab his hoverboard before slowly heading back home.
Stepping inside the small apartment, he let his hoverboard float towards the corner as he slowly walked towards the wooden bunk bed. He sat down and slowly lay on it.
He slowly closed his eyes and just lay there. He wasn't sleeping but just resting.
Boom!
The whole room vibrated like there was an earthquake. He quickly jolted up and slid under the bed.
'There's no alarm.. it shouldn't be an earthquake, right?' He thought, wishing to know what was causing the earthquake.
He shut his eyes tight and gritted his teeth, having his hand on the back of his head.
'Damn it! It's so frustrating to just stay here!' He thought, as he cracked open his eyes.
He slammed the floor with one hand and took a deep breath.
'Calm down.. like what dad taught you.. deep breath..' He slowed his breathing, slowly feeling his head clearer, 'The rumbling has stopped, but would there be another wave?'
With that, Dex stayed under the bed waiting till there's no more waves.
After what felt like forever staying down there, he slowly climbed out under the bed and went outside.
Outside, he saw a trail of mass as he quickly climbed up the building to get a better look.
High up, he saw in the distance a giant monster running.
"What the.." He quickly leapt from the building to another in order to get a better look, but he kept his distance and didn't go close enough to see clearly.
He stood there watching, seeing someone jump on the monster, then another person jumping on and killing it.
After it fell, a while later, a third different person jumped onto the nearby building ceiling.
When he saw the monster was truly dead, he hopped towards the building.
He slowed down when he saw more people going towards the monster.
Then he heard whispers around him, he scanned around him but saw no one. Focusing his powers on his eyes, he saw a life energy a few walls away from him.
He tipped toe towards it and tried to hear the conversation, squatting down and leaning near a wall.
"Come on! - our territory, so they will hesitate stepping here!" He heard bits of the conversation, being able to hear the familiar glitching voice, except this one was deeper pitched.
"Next time.. we ain't ready to hack them. Especially when they got an actual expert!" Another voice spoke in a hushed whisper.
"Stop being such a puss, man." The first voice grew annoyed.
"Alright, stop it. We don't have anything else to lose.." A different voice spoke, sounding more robotic than a glitchy voice, "I say, let's do it."
"What do you mean we got nothing to lose?!" The second voice almost shouted, "What about us? I don't want to lose the remaining friends I have.." The voice grew softer towards the end.
"Some friend you are. I shouldn't have befriended such a puss." The first voice said.
"Hey!" The third voice shouted, "That's not nice!"
"Puss." The first voice grew softer, but Dex could hear some footsteps too.
'The first person probably left..' Dex concluded, as he wanted to look but saw the familiar guy he saw just now.
Except this time, his visor and helmet were fixed. How did Dex know it was him? His life energy.
"What do you want?" The guy asked, "I mean, kid, you better watch out where you go. There's a monster there."
"I know it's you." Dex said as he slowly stood, "It's kinda my power.."
Dex can't see his facial reaction, but he knows it's something along the lines of judging how useless it was.
"For real?" That question caught him off guard.
"Um, yeah?" Dex tilted his head a little.
"My power is deemed useless too." The guy raised his visor, revealing a pair of black eyes, "I can see other people's emotions." His eyes squinted up, "I guess it's only useful if I'm a therapist from decades ago."
"Woah.." Dex felt his power was so cool, feeling so amazed by it, "That's cool!"
The guy opened his eyes, and it turned yellow, "Really?" He could see Dex's excitement and felt a smile crept up his face, "My hair tells the emotions I'm feeling."
As he removed his helmet, a set of yellow spiky hair shot up. He looks a little older than Dex, with a grin on his face.
"Awesome!!" Dex almost yelled, "Your like rainbow man!"
The guy burst out laughing, "So what can you see?"
"Energy, but mostly life-force energies only. I'm not sure if I can see other kinds of energy." He said, as he held a hand out, "Name's Dexter. What's yours?"
"Dexter? Can't I just call you Dex?" When he said that, he saw bits of blue colour mixed with the yellow, but his eyes still showed yellow colour, "Sup Dexter, this kid's name's Sloan." He said as he shook Dex's hand.
