Chapter 39 - Their reunion

Two days had passed since Eva's arrival at the farm, and Xylon had been tending to her injuries non-stop.

He wasn't a specialized healer, but he had done everything in his power to ensure that she didn't succumb to her injuries.

In order to keep her pain at bay, he had cast a sleeping spell on her, making sure that she wouldn't feel any discomfort during the healing process.

Meanwhile, Akuna had been observing Xylon from a distance, impressed by the lengths he was willing to go to in order to help Eva.

As she watched him standing in the fields, she sensed a deep sense of worry emanating from him. Something was clearly bothering him.

Akuna approached Xylon with urgency, her eyes filled with concern. "Xylon, Eva woke up," she said, hoping to draw his attention away from his troubled thoughts.

At the mention of Eva's name, Xylon's eyes darted towards Akuna. He had always been a reserved person, never speaking about his personal life to anyone.

Akuna knew that his lack of response towards Eva had been a telltale sign of their distance.

Xylon had never mentioned her before, and he had left her as soon as he had healed her.

Feeling a sense of urgency, Akuna persisted, "You should go see her, Xylon. She needs you."

Xylon took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. He knew that he couldn't avoid Eva forever. He had to face her .

Xylon stood silently next to Eva's bed, his arms crossed over his chest as he gazed down at her with a cold expression.

When she opened her eyes and looked up at him, he spoke in a firm tone, "I thought I made it clear last time that I don't want to see you ever again."

Akuna, who was outside the room, couldn't help but overhear their conversation. She stood frozen, not wanting to intervene but also feeling the need to protect Eva.

Eva's eyes filled with tears as she stared back at Xylon. Despite the pain she was feeling, both physical and emotional, she managed to speak in a husky voice, "I am sorry that you had to see me again."

Xylon said :" How did you know about this place ? And why were you in that state?"

Eva closed her eyes then said:" The place just appeared …but as to why am I here, it is because our people want to harm you "

Without hesitation, Xylon sat down next to her on the bed and placed his palm on her chest, looking deep into her eyes.

He began to heal her broken ribs, channeling magic through his hand to ease her pain and mend her bones.

As the healing magic flowed through her body, Eva felt the pain slowly recede, and she let out a deep breath of relief.

She opened her eyes and looked at Xylon with a mixture of gratitude and confusion. Why was he helping her when he had been so cold to her before?

Eva's voice was weak and barely audible, but she spoke with an underlying warmth that had not been present in her voice before.

"You changed a lot," she said, her eyes fixed on his. "A few months and you are already a big man, Xylon. You grew up faster, you look much older and stronger, but these cute blue eyes of yours are still the same, dear."

Eva's voice was barely above a whisper as she struggled to speak, her body still weak from the injuries she had sustained.

Xylon listened silently, his expression unreadable as he took in her words. He had always been conscious of his physical appearance and his growth, but hearing it from someone who hadn't seen him in months made it feel all the more real.

As she spoke, her hand trembled as she reached up to brush her fingers against his cheek.

Xylon flinched slightly at the touch, unused to such displays of affection.

His voice barely above a whisper. "I've been so focused on my own problems that I forgot completely about you."

" You saved me Xylon, you saved me " She said to him feeling proud .

Xylon looked away annoyed then said :" Just…don't talk to me like this "

He just put his hand on her cheek that was bruised and tried to heal it again .

As Eva looked up at Xylon with tears in her eyes, she couldn't understand why he was so cold towards her. Xylon was her brother and she couldn't comprehend how he could be so dismissive of her.

Despite the pain he was causing her, she reached up to touch his hand, hoping to make a connection with him.

Xylon, however, recoiled from her touch and tightened his grip on her bruised cheek, causing her even more pain. He looked at her with an icy glare and spoke with a steely tone in his voice.

"I told you family means nothing to me, Eva," he said, his words cutting like a knife.

Eva's heart felt like it had shattered into a million pieces, her tears flowing down her cheeks.

She closed her eyes, not wanting to see the coldness in his gaze. Xylon knew that he had made it clear to her that nothing had changed between them and that she was already nothing to him.

"Xylon, you are hurting me, can you please move your hand!" she pleaded, the pain in her voice palpable.

Xylon's grip on her bruised cheek had been too tight, causing her even more agony. He quickly moved his hand away.

He realized that he had hurt her unintentionally, but he didn't want to admit it.

"Rest now," he said curtly, before swiftly leaving the room. Eva watched him go, her heart heavy with sadness. She didn't understand why he had become so cold towards her. She thought that their bond had meant something to him, but now it seemed like she had never mattered to him at all.

Eva tried to rest, but her mind was filled with confusion and pain. She wondered how she would ever be able to mend their broken relationship, or if it was even worth trying. Xylon's words echoed in her mind, making her feel even more alone and lost.
