Chapter 4 - Saved By The Enemy

"Wait, what?" Daniel exclaimed

"The book cannot fully be destroyed if a part of it's curse lives on" The old monk who had demanded he be killed said while brandishing a dagger from his long gown.

"You can't kill an innocent boy because of a book, can't he be exorcised?" The younger monk asked but he was ignored.

"Your magic is useless here" The monk said to Richard who was already muttering a teleportation spell.

"You must know that your death is for the greater good. You will die for the salvation of humanity" The old monk said as he continued his slow steady advances towards them.

"You people act all good and holy but you're all just a bunch of psychopaths" Daniel shouted as he took a step backwards for any step the deranged monk took forward.

"In his name alone the lord holds great power to those who seek refuge, I've called him and he has answered, do not seek harm upon those who have done you no wrong.."

The young monk began praying.

"What do you think you are doing Angus?" The elder monk demanded, he has suddenly stopped moving and his dagger had fallen out of his grip.

"These boys came here for us to help them not kill them without reason" Angus answered "I've barely done nothing, you are only rooted in place out of your own guilt" He added.

"You have no idea the evil you're siding, you have no idea!" The bound monk shouted. The other monks had suddenly began murmuring and uneasiness had spread throughout the air.

"Angus what are you doing, these kids are evil. One is a worshipper of hell and the other is cursed. You mustn't let them leave here" Another old monk said.

"I am not a killer, Father Francis, I follow only the way of the cross" He replied as he walked in front of the two awestruck boys in defense. "I won't let you harm these boys"

"Aren't you like our age?" Richard whispered behind him.

"I won't let them escape" Francis finalized before taking a battle stance.

Chains of light shot out from the floor and bound the two boys to the ground. The other monks shuddered and took steps away from the ensuing chaos.

"This is not the way Father Francis, you should reconsider your actions before you end up regretting them" Angus said. He made to release the boys but he got strung up too. The frozen monk had suddenly began moving and had picked up his weapon.

"Your punishment will be decided later Angus, now we have bigger problems in front of us"

"It's futile struggling, the chains of heaven never leave what they have bound" the old monk said as he walked past Angus and closed in on them.

'chains of heaven?' Richard thought. He suddenly had an idea, he would release the spell he cast on the book on himself, since he used the chains of hell, naturally they would cancel each other. He took a deep breathe and prepared to cancel the spell but Angus intervened.

"You wouldn't dare use any hellish magic on me" He said as if reading Richards mind. The chains had suddenly dropped and had bound up the first monk. "I warned to reconsider your actions" Angus said to Father Francis who's jaw had just dropped.

"The light of salvation is upon those who bear no grudge" Angus said lifting his hand to the sky just before a blinding ray of light fell upon them and next they were out on the streets.

"Where are we?" Daniel asked

"Far away from trouble I hope" Came Angus's reply, "Anyways what are you two doing here?" He inquired.

"Wait do you know us?" Daniel asked.

"Yes, we go to the same school but different classes. Everyone knows Daniel Bruce"

"So just to be sure, you teleported us to a place you don't even know" Richard asked still unable to recognize the new environment.

"I was under pressure, what do you expect. Father Francis is a dangerous fellow" He explained. "Since you can cast spells now, you can teleport us to a safe place now."

"I thought you couldn't stand Magic from hell" Richard mocked.

"I had to act, they need me after all" Angus said "I would have teleported us to my place but they know where I live and it wouldn't be the wisest choice"He finished just before Richard concluded the spell and they were in Daniels place.

"So, the Brothers of Stigma, how do they operate?" Daniel asked.

"You don't expect me to spill the secrets of my Brotherhood simply because you offered me shelter" Angus replied. "All I can tell you is that they're dangerous and you shouldn't have shown your face at the church. You both must have a thing for making enemies" Angus said.

"What do you mean?" Richard was curious.

"I saw the fight with Anna Jones, I know the nature faction is already on your tail, they haven't invaded this place because of the cloaking magic around it"

'cloaking magic? It must me the handwork of his father. But he was at least grateful for this one' Daniel thought.

"How long have you been a member?" Richard asked

"Why does this feel like an interview?" Angus asked sitting upright to play his part in this supposed interview.

"It's not an interview?" Daniel assured, "we just want to know if you can exorcise the curse in me"

"Well, I've not really been taught exorcism but Killing you could work" Angus laughed to his joke but stopped once he saw the seriousness in the two's eyes. "I've been a member for a year now, they believe that I'm the one to take the brotherhood to the next level, so they were strict in the defense and offense training, I've not really been taught exorcism" He explained.

Daniel still couldn't get over what had just happened, even though he was safe now. Now that he had been involved with things that can not be fixed through ordinary means, he knew it time he outgrew his ideas about sorcery, He had made up his mind, and he wanted to let the others know.

"I want to learn, I want to learn magic"
