Chereads / The Grimoire: Battle Of Sorcerers / Chapter 8 - An Unfathomable Battle

Chapter 8 - An Unfathomable Battle

A loud roar escaped from the dark crater of smoke just before a manlike beast emerged. The aura that emnated from the being before him was nothing less than pure evil. The mere malevolence of its aura was pressing down on the amateur sorcerer, and Daniel had to fight back mentally to keep himself from breaking down.

The beast roared again before rushing at its opponents. It made a sudden halt and slashed at an invisible barrier. Frustrated from it's lack of progress, It tore and grazed at the invisible field even more violently, it's strength and speed increasing as it's frustration grew.

"You can't bypass the ultimate defense of the blood sorcerers, the Bloodstone." Jeffery taunted "It's not something that can be easily overcome with such weak attacks. Bloodstones are created from the blood of thousands of warriors who had died in battle. You aren't only fighting us but them as we.." A gasp filled with shock and surprise escaped from Jeffery's mouth as the beast tore through the invisible barrier and reduced the bloodstones to nothingness.

It's claws tore towards Jeffery's torso but Rose had intervened just in the nick of time. The beast's hand tore through her with ease before flinging her separated halves towards different directions in the forest. It let out another loud roar before lumbering close to the two prey in front of it.

Jeffery took out his penknife once more and slit open his wrist. Blood spewed out from the cut in a motion faster than normal, at the same time the beast broke into a run towards them.

The spell was taking longer than he expected. Jeffery grabbed Daniel by the wrist and flung him out of danger's reach before graciously slinking past the beast's outstretched arm. He grabbed the raging monster's attacking arm with his healthy arm and pulled it backwards with a reasonable amount of force.

The crunching sound of bones breaking sent shivers down Daniel's spine as he watched his father fling the pained creature away with only one hand.

The beast let out a loud cry before advancing towards Jeffery once more, it's broken arm already healed. He didn't seem to be in luck anyways, Jeffery's bleeding wrist had completely healed and his two hands were in complete play. The spell he had casted earlier was a physical enhancing spell and it's effect had already began yielding positive result when he manhandled the beast using only one hand, things will be much worse now he had both his hands.

Jeffery swerved both right, left and sideways carefully maneuvering through the beast's uncalculated attacks. The beast was no doubt faster and stronger but he had the brains and the battle instincts. An arch demon in a humans body was nowhere near it's full power, they would all be dead if James had summoned the demon in full.

It was clear James had no contract with the monster in his body, and that was why the man who summoned it was rarely in control. The creature's carelessness in this battle was a big mistake and Jeffery had taken his time to prey on it. He averted a swipe and held the creatures hand, lowering himself he was able to dodge another slash. Jeffery then proceeded to deliver several bone breaking blows to it's torso before sending it away with another punch.

The beast dug it's claw into the soil to stop it's unintended flight, but Jeffery had reached him in a blink and landed yet another punch to it's face. Blood spewed out from it's openings as it flew towards the opposite side of the impact. Ir was however pulled backwards and a bone crushing kick was landed on its side.

The crunching sound clearly signified breaking ribs but that didn't stop the assaulting Jeffery, he pulled the beast by it's head and slammed it into the burning soil.

The beast let out a loud cry before breaking out from it's oppressor's assault. It swerved around with speed and in an instant sent Jeffery flying backwards with a kick to the torso.

Jeffery made several summersaults mid air and landed gracefully, most to the disappointment of the raging beast.

He wiped the blood off his lips before striding forward to the approaching monster. The two collided with a force that raised craters of ash and dust before Jeffery finally emerged, bloodstained and weary.

James could be seen lying on the floor, unconscious and battered.

"You wouldn't expect any less from an elder of the Infernal Judgement" Jeffery commended as he walked towards the awestruck Daniel.

Daniel had actually for once prayed that his father made it out of this battle alive, if he was to die, then he would follow suite without a doubt and Rose wasn't even close to a match to this monster especially not when she was split in half. She had however recovered and stood behind Jeffery as always.

A cough diverted their attention back to the battered James, the hotness of the forest and the unhealthy air seemed to have shortened his undesired slumber.

" This isn't over, he shouted while pulling out two orb like objects from the pockets of his already torn clothes. He swallowed one and forcefully plunged one into his temple, intentionally tearing a hole in his forehead.

"The eye of clairvoyance" Jeffery said upon realization.

The weakened James seemed to have regained his strength as it was now obvious the orb he had swallowed had healing capabilities. A devilish smile once again lit up his now healing face as he stood from the forest floor,

"You didn't think you would beat me so easily did you?" He asked while trying to gain balance on his stance.

Jeffery smiled mockingly at the staggering man before making his opponent an offer in a rather condescending manner. "Leave now and I might spare your life"

"With the eye of clairvoyance, I can see through all your mo..." James had barely finished when he felt a sharp pain in his chest, blood spluttered out of his mouth and fell on Jeffery's face. Jeffery pulled out his hand from the man's chest, tearing out his heart in the process.

"I gave you enough time" He said while pulling the eye like structure out of James dying body.

Daniel watched in awe and disgust at the sight before him. His father was now bathed in his adversaries blood, and was almost half naked which seemed to disgust him even more.

"Let's go now, shall we?" Jeffery asked and all Daniel could do was nod.

The sudden gust of wind almost blinded him, this time it came with the burning ashes of the forest and he couldn't help but wonder how his father managed to be so calm in such an environment.

They were back in his apartment before he could end his thinking and Jeffery had immediately headed for the restroom.

Richard lay asleep beside Angus on the long sofa, the poor boy must have gotten tired of waiting and had resolved to sleep.

Daniel's mind began their endless thoughts once more. The battle he'd just witnessed was something he could ever imagine even in his wildest fantasies. Such display of raw strength power were things he wouldn't be able to match up with in yearss. He couldn't help but notice his father wasn't going all out at all in the fight, Jeffrey had only intended to show him a glimpse of what true power was.

Daniel couldn't begin to imagine what power his father would wield if he got his hands on the book.

'i won't let him have it' Daniel thought to himself as he watched his father reappear from the bathroom, properly dressed in his casual white and black with spectacles that he clearly didn't need.

"Now Daniel, The Grimoire"
