Chapter 44 - The gap between us ( mass release event -ch1)

"This can't be!" he exclaimed, his words laced with defiance. "If what you're saying is true, it means that my parents willingly brought forth a child with supremacy, putting themselves at risk by exposing such a dangerous secret to the government."

Xylia met his gaze, her demeanor calm and composed despite the intensity of the situation. "Ezekiel, I understand your concerns, and you're right that it has been perilous for individuals with supremacy to reveal their existence in the past. But the information I shared with you is new, emerging from recent reports. There seems to be a shift in the understanding of these circumstances."

His eyes narrowed, skepticism etching deep lines on his face. "And what about the curse you spoke of? The fate of children born after someone with supremacy? Didn't you say that they are destined to perish, devoid of any given powers?"

Ezekiel's anger surged through him like a raging storm, his trust shattered in an instant. The weight of betrayal settled heavily upon his shoulders, fueling his fury. Xylia's eyes darted away, avoiding his piercing gaze, a clear admission of her deception.

The air in the room grew dense with tension as he advanced towards her, his hands trembling with a mixture of anger and hurt.

Without a second thought, he put his brother on a couch then he headed towards her and clenched his palm around her throat, his fingers tightening around her delicate neck.

A potent mixture of rage and disbelief laced his voice as he confronted her with seething intensity.

"How dare you," he growled, his voice dripping with venom. "You had the audacity to lie to me! To manipulate me into believing your twisted web of deceit!"

Xylia struggled to speak, her breaths shallow and strained beneath his unyielding grip. Her eyes pleaded for mercy, a desperate attempt to convey remorse and regret.

She had underestimated the depth of Ezekiel's emotions, underestimated the fierce protective instinct that burned within him.

"I... I had no choice," she managed to gasp, her voice barely audible.

Xylia struggled to catch her breath, her body trembling from the strain of Ezekiel's furious assault. She desperately reached out to grab his arm, her weakened grip attempting to push him away.

As his relentless anger continued to consume him, she realized that words alone would not be enough to defend herself.

Summoning the last shreds of her energy, she channeled her innate magic, weaving a spell with a mixture of determination and desperation.

With a flick of her wrist, a surge of energy pulsed through the air, pushing Ezekiel forcefully away from her. The impact sent him crashing into the wall, his body slumping to the ground.

Xylia, her chest heaving with exertion, staggered backwards, her heart pounding in her chest. Beads of perspiration trickled down her forehead as she struggled to regain her composure.

The room was filled with an uneasy silence, broken only by the sound of their labored breaths.

Guilt washed over her like a tidal wave as she looked upon the fallen Ezekiel. Her intentions had been to protect him, to unveil the truth that lay hidden beneath layers of secrecy.

But in her misguided attempt, she had only succeeded in deepening the chasm of distrust between them.

Taking hesitant steps forward, Xylia cautiously approached Ezekiel, her voice laced with remorse and regret. "I didn't want it to come to this," she murmured, her words barely audible.

"I thought... I thought if you understood the magnitude of the situation, you would have no choice but to join us. To protect your brother, to ensure a better future."

Her voice trembled with vulnerability as she knelt beside him, reaching out to gently touch his bruised face.

"I'm sorry, Ezekiel. I never meant to betray your trust. I only wanted to keep you and Nathan safe, to give you a chance to make a difference. Please... try to understand."

Ezekiel stood on his feet very fast then headed towards her trying to fight with her again.

"You lied to me," he repeated, his voice carrying a chilling intensity that resonated in the air between them.

Xylia's expression softened, her eyes welling up with tears that threatened to spill over.

With a trembling voice, she confessed, "Yes, I did. I lied to you because I didn't know any other way to break through your defenses. You shut me out, Ezekiel, denying me any chance to bridge the gap between us."

Her words hung heavily in the air, carrying the weight of their fractured trust. The silence stretched on, their eyes locked in a battle of unspoken truths and unyielding determination.

Ezekiel's eyes blazed with a mixture of rage and confusion as he towered over Xylia, his hands trembling with the desire to lash out once more. Her words cut through the air like a blade, piercing the barriers he had erected around his heart.

"The fucking sense of familiarity in your voice, I hate it," he seethed, his voice a raw snarl. "Why are you acting this way?"

Xylia's face paled, but she held her ground, refusing to cower beneath his wrath. Taking a deep breath, she met his gaze with unwavering determination.

"Ezekiel, I know you," she said, her voice laced with a mixture of sorrow and conviction. "I know you better than anyone else. Please, just hear me out. I am not your enemy."

The words hung heavily in the air, challenging the storm of anger within Ezekiel's heart. He could see the sincerity etched on Xylia's face, the depth of her knowledge about him, and it sparked a flicker of curiosity amidst the tempest of his emotions.

Reluctantly, he stepped back, releasing the grip on his rage, but his eyes remained narrowed with caution. He allowed Xylia to speak, albeit with a guarded demeanor.

Xylia's eyes brimmed with unshed tears as she spoke, her voice a whisper filled with an amalgamation of regret and hope.

"Ezekiel, I understand that my actions have hurt you deeply, and I can't undo the pain I've caused. But please believe me when I say that I have always cared for you. Our paths crossed for a reason, and I want to help you uncover the truth about your parents and your brother's existence."
