Chapter 8 - 08

With how their eyes glared at me, I wasn't sure what to do, whether to move or just remain where I was. I saw the Prince sitting at the edge of his bed and the Princess stroke his back like a child.

"Don't stand there like a fool! Bring the water," She yelled at me and I walked faster toward her and handed the cup of water over to the Prince who drank it all in one gulp.

"What sweetener did you add to my tea?" The Prince inquired and I stole a glance at Samantha who stood there with a grin on her face.

"Don't you have ears? What sweetener did you add to his tea?" Princess Agatha thundered like she was going to pounce on me.

"Relax, no need to get shout about it," Prince Andrew spoke to her in a soft tone.

"I was told that the Prince was allergic to honey so I used the licorice instead," I stuttered.

"And who told you that? Why can't you listen properly and ask questions if you do not know ? Your mere assumption that the Prince would prefer licorice just ruined his morning on his first day here, do you have any idea what you have done?" Samantha's voice echoed in the chamber as she yelled at me.

"I'm sorry mistress but you said the Prince was allergic to honey which was- " She interrupted me before I finished my statement.

"Sure, you would blame it on me because you don't listen to instructions, I told you the Prince was allergic to most sweeteners, don't use anything else apart from the honey, wasn't that what I said to you, Sage?"

My jaws dropped in bewilderment, she lied before everyone and made me look like a fool, she was the head maid so no one suspected that she lied.

The King remained silent and that worried me because it meant that I earned myself a punishment that was worth my actions, I turned to the Prince to apologize.

"I'm very sorry my Prince, please do forgive me,"

"And who told you sorry would fix what you have done, tell me now Sage, would your apology fix his swelling throat? will it soothe the pain he feels now?" The Princess shouted at me and I felt guilty.

Though I did none of it but as I watched the Princess that way, I was hurt badly, just the previous night she was very happy and I ruined that before sunrise, the mistake I made was that I trusted my instinct and believed that Samantha would assist me without a sabotage.

"I'm sorry my Princess," I pleaded but she responded with a harsh expression.

"Shut up!"

"Sage, am I right?" The Prince called me and I replied with a whisper.

"Please, I react to licorice, never use it for my tea again, I prefer the honey is that understood?" His voice was calm but also exhibited a bit of authority.

"No, my Prince, she shall be punished-

"No need to do that, it was a simple misunderstanding, "Prince Andrew Interjected .

"But she must learn to pay attention" Samantha argued, then I understood that all she wanted was to get me punished, and then I realised that it was almost sunrise and that was probably one of her plots to deal with me for not fixing things with Allesio.

"Silent Samantha!" The King ordered and I was glad that he did.

"And who are you to decide whether or not she gets punished?" He added and she kept her head low.

" And you Sage," He turned to me,

"Hope you've learned from this? Now leave, both of you!" He commanded and we walked out of the chamber.

I kept a straight face to avoid Samantha, I wished that I could disappear or suddenly grow wings and fly away from her because I became more afraid of her, within five minutes she had gotten me into trouble, who knew what she could have do to me if I stood next to her.

I felt her come closer to me and I tried walking away but I wasn't able increase my pace, my legs became weak and I could only take one step at a time.

That happened to me once and that was when I stared into Allesio's eyes and then it's happened again, and u wondered what it could be.

As I struggled with myself to move faster, she whispered into my left ear.

"What happened in there was just to show you that I don't give empty threats, imagine what I would do if I had more time Sage, one more time, fix it before the Princess's birthday,"

As I watched her walk away, a cold wind blew past me and I felt my feet once more, I didn't want to waste any more time or she might do something worse.

I must admit that I found that whole episode difficult to believe, rejecting Allesio wasn't a good reason for all that drama and was not supposed to cause me that much trouble, besides I wasn't the first person to reject a man so what made mine different?

After the incident, I spent most of my day thinking of how to put my words together all while working toward the Princess's birthday party, I was put in charge of decorations as the King my to my choice of designs for last dinner with Prince Andrew.

Aside from that, my usual duty which was making sure the Princess looked presentable. I was surprised that I was given that opportunity once again when I thought no one would speak to me after the incident with the Prince earlier that day.

I had a lot of time to rest but each time I tried the thought of Allesio came to mind and I couldn't get it off, I just had to tell him something. I stood up from my reading desk and walked out of the chamber as slowly as possible. This task was a difficult one but had to be done to avoid Samantha.
